"Don't leave…" Cane's voice was so soft, until it almost sounded like he was pleading. He could care less about his own life, but there were so many lives hanging above his head if something were to happen to him.
On the other hand, Iris stopped moving away from him and even though she couldn't hear the pleading tone in his voice, she could hear the low, distressful growl from the beast.
She was still trembling, but she balled her hands into fists to stay where she was. It took everything in her just not to run away and leave him behind, which could expose Cane's curse and the consequences that ensued would be so dire.
Seeing Iris sit silently not too far from him, staring at him with eyes filled with fear, Cane couldn't do much. As he felt the pain course through his veins, he had a hard time breathing while his senses to his surroundings intensified.
