Messengers to Wan Khan

A few days later at the Khereit Tribe at Tuul River.

"Ugh... Where am I?" asked Sengum touching his dizzy head. At his chest, he could feel the pain on his chest.

"Wan Khan, Lord Sengum has awakened" a female servant got up and ran out to notify Wan Khan.

Soon Wan Khan entered the ger to see his son wake up and sit on his bed.

"Oh Jesus Christ, thank you for your benevolent blessings!" Wan Khan has made the gesture to make the sign of the cross.

"Father? What happened at the Battle in Muu Undur? Did we annihilate Temuujin's troops?" asked Sengum.

"No Sengum, you were wounded and soon got unconscious. Therefore to tend your wounds, we have got back to our Khereit Tribe" said Wan Khan.

"What? We are back at our Khereit Tribe? We were supposed to attack and chase Temuujin. Why did we retreat?" asked Sengum.

"Sengum, Temuujin has already migrated to another place. Even though we chase him, we cannot go more east getting separated from our Khereit tribe when Temuujin has retreated once again," said Wan Khan shaking his head at his loss.

"Wan Khan! Two messengers from Temuujin have arrived, they are awaiting your presence" a man entered the ger.

"Jakhakhambu my brother, did you say Temuujin has sent his messenger? Let's go inside the main hall to meet the Messengers" said Wan Khan.

"Father, let me accompany you! I want to meet the messengers as well," said Sengum, who got up from his bed and accompanied Wan Khan.

At the main hall of Khereit tribe, Belgutei, Temuujin's younger brother, and Khoorchi, Temuujin's Minister of Transportation and Logistics are awaiting Wan Khan.

The betrayed Altan, Khuchir, Daridai of Borjigin clan, and Temuujin's childhood friend Jamukha of Jadran clan are present as well.

Wan Khan and Sengum entered the main hall, while Wan Khan sat on his throne, Sengum has taken a seat next to him.

"Oh, Belgutei you have arrived. Did you come to us to pay Temuujin's blood debt by your own blood?" asked Sengum looking at Belgutei who is Temuujin's younger brother.

"Kill those two," said Jamukha. And the guards in the main hall have unsheathed their sabers.

"You can kill me. I have one life, but if I even blink once when you slash at me, I will not be a Borjigin, but a Khereit coward!" said Belgutei hitting his chest and mocking Sengum and Jamukha.

But Khoorchi has interrupted and touched the shoulder of Belgudei

"Gentlemen, there is no need to unsheath this many sabers towards two unarmed men," said Khoorchi.

"Khoorchi, don't caw at us! Be quiet" said Jamukha, feeling irritated by the sly words of Khoorchi.

"If the great Wan Khan doesn't want to hear two peaceful messengers' sayings, then I can be silent," said Khoorchi looking at Wan Khan.

"Wan Khan, it is easy to kill two messengers who are in our Khereit tribe, but if we kill them we can't hear what they are supposed to say. Perhaps, Temuujin wants to surrender and has sent his two messengers to us. Let's hear him first." said the betrayed Daridai.

After hearing Daridai's suggestion, Wan Khan contemplated for a while and stroked his white beard.

"All of you, sheat your sabers. Let's hear the messengers' statement" said Wan Khan.

After the command of Wan Khan is given, all the guards inside the hall have sheathed their sabers and placed their right hand to their chest, and bowed to Wan Khan.

Belgutei stepped forward, and placed his right hand on his chest.

"Wan Khan my father, why are you enraged, and why did you make me afraid? Your child and daughter in laws can not sleep at ease now.

Wan Khan my father, the sly people around you have suggested to attack me, the poisonous tongues around you are breaking the bond between us.

Wan Khan my father, at the Ulaan Boldag /Name of a place/ we have made a deal to meet each other whenever a poisonous snake is shaking our relationship. But you are now attacking my tribe and have ended many lives. Even though we have not met each other dissolving the misunderstandings.

In the last ten years, we were just like the two wheels of a cart. But if one wheel is broken, the cart can not move forward.

Last year, when you attacked the Naimans and were encircled, I sent my four generals to you and saved your family and your kingdom, but yet you have attacked me now.

This is the message from Temuujin." said Belgutei.

"Alas, I have been separated from my good child /Meaning Temuujin/. My kingdom is ashamed of me now. It is me who has started the act of being separated." said Wan Khan feeling guilty.

"Jamukha, you have made Wan Khan and I become enemies, perhaps you are jealous of me for having a good godfather. But now Jamukha, you can be with my godfather as long as you want. Said Temuujin to you." said Khoorchi looking at Jamukha of the Jadran Clan.

"Altan and Khuchar, Temuujin has asked whether you two become khan for the Borjigin clan, but you two denied it and said that Temuujin is the rightful heir. But not so long after, you two betrayed me and joined hands with Wan Khan. I know that you guys change your mind easily, but I want to request you guys never betray my godfather Wan Khan in the future. In the future, please never mention that you are the uncles of Temuujin. This is the message of Temuujin to you" said Belgutei to Altan and Khuchar.

"Jahakhambu, my brother, protect Belgutei and Khoorchi till they leave Khereit tribe. Release Khasar's family as well. I forbid anyone to attack Temuujin from onwards. I also forbid any suggestion to attack Temuujin from this day onwards." decreed Wan Khan.

"Lord father, It was I who defeated Khasar and took their family hostage. But why are you releasing them without my consent?" asked Sengum from his Wan Khan.

"Sengum, I am the khan, I know that you have won the battle against Khasar, but the battle itself cannot be justified because Temuujin was our ally then. Therefore I am releasing Khasar's family," said Wan Khan.

"Belgutei and Khoorchi, please take Khasar's family with you," said Wan Khan.

After the meeting with wan Khan, Belgutei and Khoorchi took Khasar's family and left the Khereit Tribe. When Khoorchi and Belgutei met with Khasar's family, the betrayed Daridai has come to meet with Belgutei.

"Nephew Belgutei." said Daridai, not being able to make eye contact with his nephew due to shame.

"Daridai, what is your intention to meet with us?" asked Belgutei.

"Belgutei, tell Temuujin that Wan Khan may say that he will not attack him anymore, but beware of Sengum, he will attack you." said Daridai warning Belgutei.

"I understand. I will tell your warning to lord Temuujin" said Belgutei.

Just as Belgutei and Khoorchi along with Khasar's family has just crossed the gate of Khereit tribe, Sengum with a hundred of troops has encircled them.

"What is this Sengum, didn't Wan Khan made a decree to let Belgutei and Khoorchi leave our Khereit Tribe along with Khasar's family?" said Jahakhambu, the younger son of Wan Khan.

"That old man doesn't differentiate between right and wrong anymore. I defeated Temuujin's younger brother Khasar, therefore his family is now my servants! Belgutei and Khoorchi you may go, but leave Khasar's family to us!" said Sengum unsheathing his saber.

"Sengum! Are you treasoning your father?" asked Belgutei unsheathing his saber as well. When Belgutei unsheathed his saber, the hundreds of troops of Sengum has pointed their saber to Belgutei.

"Oh Belgutei, your wound will mend without any scars if you take your revenge they say, troops, this battle is between Belgutei and me, don't interfere," said Sengum while touching the arrow wound on his chest.

"I will notify Wan Khan immediately!" said Jahakhambu, galloping to Khereit tribe again.

Soon Belgutei and Sengum started to cross their swords on their horses.

Sengum's attacks were weak because he has a wound on his chest. And Belgutei started to get the advantage and started to attack Sengum violently.

However, Sengum is a skilled warrior, therefore he skillfully defended himself and whenever there is an opening Sengum would strike and stab Belgutei.

'This battle should be dragged a while. When Wan Khan arrives, I may leave with Khasar's family.' thought Belgutei by looking at Khasar's wife and children who were embracing themselves.

Belgutei started to defend himself and let Sengum get intoxicated by the feeling of his momentary advantage.

Sengum started to get enraged, attacking Belgutei.

After a few moments, Belgutei saw that the Wan Khan and Jahakhambu is riding their horses and arriving at the battle scene.

Therefore, Belgutei struck again and had a clash with Sengum. When their swords were crossed, Belgutei hit Sengum's wounded side of the chest, letting Sengum's arm become weak, and kicked him off his horse.

"Argh." Sengum loudly screamed when he fell from his horse, looking at Belgutei with hate and disgust!

"Sengum! I dare to treason your father's decree?" questioned Wan Khan loudly.

"Father! You don't know right and wrong anymore. A demon may have possessed you! It was I who defeated Khasar, and yet you are releasing his hostage family without my consent!" said Sengum looking with hatred in his eyes.

"Sengum! Let God forgive your sin!" said Wan Khan while shaking his head and making the cross sign.

"Belgutei and Khoorchi, I apologize. But I believe you must leave Khasar's family and you must go" said Jahakhambu, looking at Sengum and Wan Khan.

If Sengum and Wan Khan clash with each other, it is disadvantageous to the Khereit tribe. To dissolve this clash, Jahakhambu made the decision and let to take the Khasar's family as hostage again.

"Wan Khan, then we will take our leave," said Khoorchi, and lashed against Belgutei's horse to prevent him from staying and make more dispute with Sengum.

"Uncle!" cried the kids of Khasar looking at the retreating Belgutei, looking pathetic.

The messengers Belgutei and Khoorchi has successfully escaped Sengum's encirclement and retreated back to Buir Lake.

I believe it is better to make some chapters without our main character. It will help the readers to understand the general outline and relations between tribes.

Next chapters will be more focused on our main character's point of view.
