Most matters that involve individuals of equal or small disparities in ability can come down to many factors, such as luck, preparation, or circumstance.
However, that is only between equals.
On this day, the luncheon that was being put on by the academy was abruptly interrupted by the opening of a large door in a rather pompous manner, with plenty of, begrudgingly admitted, swagger.
Sheriff Galpin was feeling good.
Better than good.
He was feeling fulfilled.
A feeling that he had not felt in too long...and yet he still felt it was a hollow victory. Like there was something missing. No, not something. Someone. He missed her. The mother of his son. The one who should be there with him to bask in the moment with him.
However, he was strong.
A strong-minded individual.
Because of that, he focused his mind and his attention back to the front of him, as he passed through the door. Though, when he did, what met his sight was not what he expected, nor something that he could understand.
Gomez Addams was there, for a split second.
And then,
Nothing.
There was nothing there. Nothing anywhere.
He waved his hand in front of his face, attempting to gain some semblance of his bearings and stave off the panic that was quickly emerging from the deepest pits of his stomach. But no matter how frantic, fast, or close he moved his hand in front of his eyes, only darkness met his sight.
His breaths began to come faster. Shorter. His eyes darting left, right, up, right, down, left, in sharp angles and circles. But nothing.
Turning one way, then the other. Spinning. Stumbling. Just trying to understand.
'Is this it', he could not help but think. 'Will he join his love in the great beyond? Will that bastard Gomez continue to walk free? What about Tyler? I can't leave him alone!'
Through pure strength of will, Sheriff Galpin clenched his fists and grit his teeth, as he prepared to deny what afterlife awaited him in order to get back to the kid that still needed him. He knew it was what his wife would want and he would not fail her.
Enid sat there watching.
A strange sort of glee playing on her senses as she watched everyone in the courtyard panic, as Vlad gently landed on the ground in the middle of the courtyard.
She wondered if he would like something to eat. The meat was particularly good, however she quashed the thought when she peeked at the sheriff and his posse..
It did not take a genius to figure out why the man had barged into their feast, especially when the smell of pure condescension was wafting off of his out of shape body when his eyes immediately darted towards Wednesday and her family as soon as he flung the doors open.
Enid took a moment to realize that the negative feelings towards the sheriff came a little too suddenly.
Where they hers? An immediate yes. Why were they hers? Wednesday.
The sheriff challenged Wednesday.
He wanted to hurt her. Hurt her family.
That should not be allowed.
COULD NOT BE ALLOWED!
'Take a breath, Enid,' she scolded herself quickly.
She could feel her fangs beginning to elongate as something primal made itself known.
Something...dominant.
She quickly looked towards her mom and dad to see if they noticed her freak out. She wasn't ready yet to let them in on her new status as not only a member of a pack, but of THE pack. One with an Alpha so powerful that he gave off the feeling of a sun, while everyone else, including her parents felt like flashlights with batteries very close to needing replacements.
It was her business.
Her power.
And her family.
A family that she could feel accepted her completely, exactly how she was. Even before the fetch upgrades. (A/N: Yes, that was a mean girls reference).
She had nothing to prove.
Not anymore.
"Ah! Oh." She couldn't help but let out as she looked around.
Her parents were freaking out. Everyone was freaking out. Running around like headless chickens.
"Pffttt hehe," she let out, involuntarily before quickly covering her mouth.
'Some things just should not be seen,' she thought as she watched her parents, the rest of the wolves, vamps, assorted others, and normies twisting, turning, stumbling, and rolling, like they were losing their minds. Even Ajax wasn't spared.
She turned her head slightly to take in her Alpha who was looking at her from across the courtyard where Wednesday's family once sat, but were there no longer.
He smiled that sexy smile of his, gave a wink, and then disappeared. Bringing back the light with his departure.
'Wait, can I see in the dark?' She thought to herself, a very satisfied expression making its way onto her face with the thought.
She would not admit it, perhaps could not admit it, but she was really starting to like the feeling of being different. A much better different than the one that used to make her cry.
Where once she was considered different to her detriment and exclusion.
Now, she was different to her advantage and inclusion. A difference that brought only benefits and strength. A strength that she did not want to share with anyone. Not her parents. Not her friends. Not anyone. Anyone but her pack.
A pack that was no where to be seen.
She looked at the empty table where Wednesday's family sat, and then looked at the sheriff who stood with his fists clenched and knees bent, as if he were constipated and had decided to just say forget the consequences and push with everything he had.
For a moment, she found herself forgetting her grudge against the man and felt a sense of pity. Stomach issues are a bitch. However, that feeling quickly went away once the man recovered his senses, shook his head way too exaggeratedly, probably to the detriment of his neck, and then opened his eyes wide as he looked every which way, breathing like he had just finished a full marathon.
She could see the moment that he regained his senses, and realized that what he was seeking was no where in his sight.
The way his teeth gnashed. Veins bulged in his neck. And whatever he was attempting to push out finally went free.
"GOMEZ ADDAMS!!"
Immediately, she lowered the volume her ears took in.
Didn't know she could do that.
'Learn something new everyday,' she though to herself, proudly. The more she learns, the more she'll grow. The more she grows, the sooner she can go on whatever adventures Vlad is planning on taking in the future. He's too strong to stay in a small town like Nevermore forever.
However, as much as she hated it, she could not help but admit that she and the sheriff were in agreement in one aspect.
'Why the hell did they leave without me!'
