The Caldwell Mansion was located a few miles away from Arbyshire. Although Ryan Caldwell was able to travel huge distances in a short time, it still took him thirty minutes to arrive at the mansion.
Ryan Caldwell jumped over the high fence and landed in front of the frightened gardener like a stealthy leopard.
The human gardener yelped and fell backward. He did not expect the master of the house to appear out of nowhere with a tattered, torn suit that reeked of blood.
"M-Master Ryan! G-good morning!"
A tiny smile appeared on Ryan Caldwell's face.
"Good morning, Howard."
Ryan pushed the double door open and entered the mansion foyer. His human butler, Richard, was already waiting for him. The elder man did not even flinch when he saw Ryan's messy appearance.
Experience taught him that as long as the master was still walking properly, then he was in great health.
"Richard, I want to take a bath. Get me Angela."
"Very well, Master Ryan."
Angela was Ryan's personal assistant.
Just like Ryan, she was a vampire but of lesser birth. When she got a phone call from Richard, she immediately rushed over with a black Aston Martin.
The front part of the car was badly damaged with a huge dent at the front and a crumpled hood. If Richard did not know better, he would have thought that Angela was involved in car accidents while driving her boss' car back to the mansion.
The vampire woman stepped out of the half-demolished car as if she had just come from a midnight party.
She took off her sunglasses, shook her head once, and the long auburn hair fell from her shoulders gracefully.
After straightening her black blazer and her black tailored skirt, she picked up her notebook from the passenger seat and walked toward the door. Richard opened the door for her before she even knocked.
"Richard," she greeted the butler politely.
"Ms. Angela, good morning."
"Where is Mr. Caldwell Junior?"
"Upstairs, still taking a bath."
Angela checked the time on her wristwatch and commented, "Very well. I shall wait in the study."
Ryan Caldwell used to receive Angela in his study. Their daily morning meeting was a short one, during which Angela shared Ryan Caldwell's agenda for the day and Ryan added or canceled a few scheduled activities as he deemed fit.
That day's meeting was supposed to be extremely short because Ryan went on a rampage the night before and then completely went missing. Angela was relieved to see Ryan in perfect health and not even missing any limb after having such a crazy night.
"Angela."
Angela's head snapped up. Habitually, she opened her notebook and held her smartpen in position.
"Yes, Mr. Caldwell Junior?"
"Go find some information about the human little boy I left in the hospital near St. John elementary school. In Arbyshire."
"... Very well."
Angela noted the tiniest clues she got from her employer.
"I left my ring with him," Ryan added. "The opal one, with my initials on it."
Angela widened her eyes at the carpeted floor as she took note. That was all she could do in order to not gape at her employer.
Was that not the wedding ring that Ryan's wife, no, ex-wife, took off during the fight? Angela could barely believe her ears. Did Ryan pick up the ring just to give it to some random human little boy?
"Oh, and get me a new phone. I will be going back to the hospital now."
Angela almost heaved a sigh of relief. At least Ryan remembered the way back to the hospital. That would spare her a lot of work in finding the hospital.
"Let's just take my car," Ryan said casually.
"Very well, Sir."
After changing into a clean suit, the vampire no longer looked like a soon-to-be rabid vampire. He strolled out of the foyer and stared at the heavily damaged Aston Martin.
"Heh, did you pick my car up for me?"
"Yes," Angela answered.
Even if Ryan no longer wanted the car, Angela still had to tow the wreckage away.
Her phone started ringing when she recalled the previous night. Angela answered quickly after she saw the name on display.
"Yes, Sir.
Of course, Sir.
I will get back to you as soon as I receive some news."
Angela threw Ryan a glance when she spoke on the phone. It was enough to tell Ryan who the person on the phone was.
"No need to inform anyone about my return yet," he said. "Especially not Grandfather."
