Do Not Regret

The dress was no less than rags. To think that a woman would wear such clothes to meet a lover.. That was impossible!

Many stared at the pair of mother and daughter unconsciously. They were wearing expensive clothes full of jewels and embroidery yet the eldest daughter was looking no less than a beggar.

"This..!" they looked at them again for explanation when the face of the duchess burnt again. It had taken her a long time in maintaining such image but Althea was ruining it badly.

"That must be a mistake in delivering your clothes too. I will look into the matter after the guests return.`` She cut it short and tried to sweep it under the floor but both of them knew that the woman had lost her credibility by a lot.

"Here, two officials had come after receiving the complaint that you were not here last night and they wanted to search your room." she said in a hurried voice to distract the others from herself.

When two men came forward. They were wearing the uniform of officials and standing there with a cold face.

"You think that i have gone you yet you need to search my room? What would searching my room prove?" she asked back with a mocking laughter on her face.

The men who had led the whole group were standing in the corner and looking at her with interest.

When someone had asked for his help, he had only agreed because he was bored and wanted some fun by insulting the duke. But who would have thought that he would find a diamond here.

That girl, she had such razor sharp eyes and blunt mouth that it could cut mountains, much less the image of these two women and that fraud fiance.

"That.. what if someone had come here since you can not leave without a carriage?" said Jane in a hurried voice to support her sister.

As the words left her mouth, she appreciatively looked at her elders sister to get some praise but instead found them frowning at her that confused her. But she bit her lips and kept her silence as there were too many to ask for details.

"So, you are saying that now our guards were so lenient towards the strangers too that they did not stop a person from coming in?" her voice was full of laughter that showed you are ridiculous when Jenny took a deep breath.

She had never thought that they would be insulted so much but the girl is taking no chance to keep her mouth shut. Shecould not blame her then.

"Ha! The palace is so large. There is always a chance of sneaking in. or there might be a chance that one or two chords are bribed.

Though I believe that my sister could never do such things, refusing again and again and arguing with the officers would only increase suspicion. Why don't you let them check and let it end.

I am sure if nothing was found, the search would only help in saving your innocence." With the last line said, if Althea still continued to argue then it would only mean that she was at fault or why was she so much against it.

Althea gave a knowing smile. A smile that showed your traps were seen through and you would not succeed. It was no less than mocking that the face of the girl burnt but she stood on her grounds.

Once she would get rid of this eldest daughter then she would show her who will laugh in the end.

"Alright, if you place is like that then i can only oblige." she said with a sigh as she took a step back and waved her hands to let them enter.

The men looked at each other with a smirk when she replied back, "but I have a condition. I want my room checking to be recorded by the magical pearl so that it could be used as a proof later." said the girl with a gentle smile when they looked at her with a shocked face.

For a proof? Would it not be proof against her! What kind of foolish request was that?

It will be bad for her image.

Though the magical pearl that had the ability to capture the scene and play it like a movie anytime in the future are very expensive, the duchess was ready for the idea at once as she nodded her head and asked a maid to bring it hurriedly.

"Alright. Since you wanted it. You can have it. But later do not blame others for things it captures."
