Chapter 40 hidden purpose

As those fortunate enough to experience Valarissa's culinary creations savored the enticing aroma, they couldn't help but marvel at her ability to effortlessly transform basic ingredients into a true masterpiece.

Valarissa had accomplished more than just cooking a meal; she felt as though she had added a vibrant touch to the world around her.

Taking a slice of plain, slightly firm bread, she spooned some delectable mutton curry onto it. Glancing at the expectant crowd, they resembled a group of eager puppies awaiting a treat.

Before indulging herself, she thoughtfully set aside nine portions for her family and subordinates, reserving the remainder for the staff. Retrieving a larger container with a lid, she carefully poured some curry into it.

Casting a quick glance at the people, she requested, "Please assist me in carrying this," gesturing towards the sizable pot and indicating the same location where the staff were dining. She then made her way to the table and took a seat.

Without delay, the individuals eagerly carried the pot and positioned it in the center of the table, respectfully stepping aside. After all, Valarissa was a princess, and they understood that dining with nobility was not within their reach.

Valarissa observed the unfolding scene." Would you like to join me for a meal?" She playfully inquired.

"This can't do Princess." Before the person could explain Valarissa interjected " Why do you consider me unworthy to dine with you ?"

However, the question made those around her responded with anxiety, saying, "No, it not like that princess, that's not the case..."

Observing the uneasy demeanor of those around her, Valarissa suggested, "Why not take a seat and sample my culinary creation?"

"Yes, Your Highness," they simultaneously agreed, both unwilling to defy the princess and eager to savor this exquisite dish.

The air was filled with the enticing scent of the flavorful curry, captivating the senses of the servants and onlookers. Valarissa had dedicated hours to perfecting the recipe, skillfully adjusting the spices and flavors to cater to the palates of her kingdom.

As the servants indulged in the distinctive flavors, they couldn't help but shower Valarissa with admiration and awe. The combination of bread and curry was impeccably balanced, unlike anything they had ever tasted before. The onlookers, with excitement gleaming in their eyes, eagerly devoured the dish in generous mouthfuls.

Valarissa, however, believed that the curry was not flawless. Despite her efforts to make it less spicy, she felt there was room for improvement. Nevertheless, the people in her kingdom found it to be far superior to anything they had ever experienced. They couldn't contain their gratitude towards the princess for her culinary finesse.

As Valarissa savored the dish, the previously absorbed chefs came to their senses. Led by a wise 70-year-old man, the chefs rose to their feet one by one. The elderly chef respectfully addressed Valarissa, "Princess Valarissa, this humble servant seeks the guidance of the Princess."

Valarissa briefly displayed a sly smile, hiding her contentment, before addressing the middle-aged men and the many followers. "Considering your own culinary expertise, you must understand that delving into someone's confidential recipe is far from respectable." The old man grew flustered, realizing the error in his inquiry. He swiftly apologized, "Princess, this is not what we intended. I humbly ask for your forgiveness on behalf of myself and my disciples, for our impolite conduct."

Valarissa's smile beamed as she graciously pardoned the elderly gentleman. Acquainted with the chef's background, she recognized his unwavering eagerness to acquire new knowledge. Thus, she felt compelled to share her own expertise and wisdom, though she had an ulterior motive in mind.

"Jon, your passion for cooking is evident, and with a little guidance, I believe you have the potential to become a renowned chef, admired throughout the seven kingdoms and beyond," Valarissa murmured, her voice gentle and encouraging.

Jon's eyes widened in astonishment as he gazed up at her. Never had he fathomed receiving praise from Valarissa. Despite his pride as the Royal chef, he was well aware of his limitations. However, within Valarissa's single dish, he glimpsed an opportunity to ascend to the pinnacle of the culinary world.

The elderly man interjected, displaying audacity. "Princess, if I may be so bold, it would be my honor to be guided by your culinary expertise."

Valarissa nodded affirmatively. "That would be splendid. Jon, I will furnish you with recipes and introduce you to a realm of culinary arts that you have yet to explore. However..."

A surge of anticipation welled up inside him, creating a flutter of exhilaration in his heart. This was an opportunity unlike any he had ever encountered, and he was resolute in his determination to seize it with all his might. He vowed to do whatever it took to become an exceptional chef, and he firmly believed that, under Valarissa's guidance, he could transform his dream into reality.

The elderly gentleman's face lit up with joy, yet a trace of apprehension lingered in his eyes at the mention of the impending "But."

Valarissa paused for a moment, her silence pregnant with significance. Rising from her seat, she addressed him directly, her voice filled with purpose. "I trust you are aware of the recent endeavors undertaken by my sister, Rhaenyra, and myself, correct?"

Old man Jon nodded respectfully in agreement. "Indeed, Your Highness, this humble servant is well aware."

"I have enlisted a considerable number of workers, and now I must also arrange for their meals. Although I have hired many experienced female cooks, I still require individuals to manage the kitchen staff." Valarissa conveyed her intention, directing her gaze at the Oldman.

"I propose that you and your followers take charge of the kitchen. If you agree, I will provide you with three unique recipes. You will receive 20 Silver, and each of your disciples will receive 10 Silver. Additionally, I will personally teach you the fundamentals of this style of cuisine," Valarissa offered.

The Oldman was taken aback, but before he could respond, Valarissa emphasized, "Old man Jon, think carefully. If you accept, you will be working alongside the common folk."

Without hesitation, the Oldman replied with determination and a burning desire, "I am willing, princess!" Following the Oldman's lead, his disciples also voiced their agreement.

Valarissa, beaming with joy, suggested, "You can discuss the details with Grace." She knew that her initial instincts were correct; if she had asked them directly, these individuals would never have agreed to cook for the common folk, let alone work alongside them. Each person present here hailed from a lower-ranking noble family, and Old Jon, being the son of a knight who had traveled the world and gained fame for his culinary skills throughout the seven Kingdoms, was no exception.

Old Jon observed as Valarissa departed from the kitchen, instructing her people to deliver the meal, her graceful figure fading into the shadows.

Jon then turned to a middle-aged man who bore a striking resemblance to him, a smile adorning his face. "Ash, this is an unprecedented opportunity for you. I am old and can no longer fully grasp or pursue this chance. However, you are young and have plenty of time to become renowned as the top chef in the seven Kingdoms. Promise me that you will work diligently and give it your all."

The middle-aged man nodded resolutely. "I promise, father. I will not disappoint your expectations."
