Chapter 18 - Merica Finest armament

While I managed to gather a team, another problem appeared. Octavia disappeared and one had seen her since last night, and as much I would love to help Bellamy find his sister, I can't drop everything just for one girl, especially now when we know where to find guns to fight the grounders.

Rather than focusing on finding our friend, I reluctantly told Bellamy that he can make his own team and search for Octavia on his own. While I believe understands why I'm sending us all after her, I still don't know what this kidnapping may mean to us.

My team and I quickly left the camp after I was done talking with Bellamy. Monty and Jasper were the first to chase after me followed closely by Finn and Monroe, a girl I didn't have the pleasure of meeting until now. While Fox, Harper, Miller, and Sergey stood in the rear of our formation. At first, I didn't want to take Betsy with us since she was way too big, but after what I saw at the lake, it won't matter how much we would try to hide, since the grounders will eventually find us anyways. So without any further ado, we took our own dinosaurs with us on this journey.

Compared to all of them, I was way too worried about everything starting from Octavia's disappearance to the sudden lack of grounders attacks on our camp. As I was leading the formation, I saw Monroe winking at me while she sat on top of Betsy alongside Fox and Harper. For once, I'm not sure if that was an invitation or just some friendly reminder that I'm still single…

Eventually, we reached where the old emergency depot was. At least this was the place where Kane told me we could find it. Looking around, everything was either underwater or overrun by weeds and moss. Without any exact location, we start searching every inch and cranny of this place, hoping that we would find a door or a hatch that would lead us to our objective. We left Betsy to eat in peace while we got busy trying to find an entrance to the depot.

A few minutes later, Fox yelled into the growing dark as Monty and Finn dragged Jasper back to where she was since Jasper wondered after some Jobi nuts.

"Hey, I think I found something!"

Finn and Monty pushed everything back to reveal a big, rusty, metal, entrance to what I believe to be the emergency depot.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we found it!"

"That's really impressive, Fox. Nice job." Sergey commented and Fox didn't have to turn around to know that he was smirking at her with desire in his eyes. The two of them were flirting on every single occasion, so it wasn't strange for them to get together sooner or later.

"But where does it lead?" Monty asked as he tried to open the lid to no avail thanks to how old and rusty the metal was.

"We're about to find out."

I said, sending a meaningful look to Miller and Sergey, who nodded back at me. I firmly grabbed the lid, followed by the two boys and at the count of three, we pulled the lid open, revealing a staircase that led underground to where the depot should be.

Luckily for us, Raven's pod had a few flares stocked inside of it which made our job easier since we throw two of them down the stairs illuminating the abyss. As soon as the flares illuminate the inside of the depot, we saw the technology and guns down below inside the bunker's depths. The bunker was completely blacked out, but even in the slightly illuminated bunker, I could make out the outlines of long rifles, machine guns, pistols, barrels of explosives and ammunition, and two big, chunky radio panels.

"We hit the jackpot, people!"

"Monroe's right. Look all of this stuff, it seems like we have some useful shit down there."

"What is all that stuff?" Fox asked, looking down into the bunker, looking at an assault rifle for the first time

"Looks like guns to me," Sergey said, not caring about anything other than the big and beautiful M249 LMG that was on top of one of the radio panels. Harper and Monty quickly went to the stairs and carefully stepped down the steps, pulling off pieces of some clothes that we took from our camp for this exact reason and wrapping them around the sides of the ladder, saving us from being cut by any rusted metal.

"Damn, you two. I wished we didn't take these clothes with us. Maybe the girl would have ripped theirs then."

Harper smiled when she heard Jasper, soon after all of us burst out laughing when Monroe punched him in the arm for saying that.

"Knock it off, Jasper. We know you are a pervert, but not like this."

"Auch, what's wrong with my harmless joke?"

Suddenly Fox's voice was heard. "What's this?"

Before anyone could react or even stop her, we saw Fox flipping something on and bright white lights bled into the bunker. We all gasp at what she did, but nonetheless, having a little bit more light was welcomed.

"The lights are still working after all of those years?!"

"I guess they do. Who would have thought?" Finn sounded awed and he started going down the ladder, followed by Miller and Sergey.

"Be careful, guys. That ladder probably hasn't been cleaned in a while. And I don't think we have any tetanus syringes we can use on you to help you if you get infected. Let's wait for Harper and Monty to finish their job before we continue walking down the stairs."

When we all were down in the bunker, I grabbed Monty's wrist and pulled him to the radio panels, pointing to them.

"Hey, Monty, do you think you can hook these up? We could contact the dropship and tell them we found the depot."

"I can try, but I don't think that this one hundred years old piece of rust would even work."

"Forget about it then, it's not worth the time then. Let's look around the place and see what we can get besides those guns."

Meanwhile, Monroe got closer to me before she start speaking to me, while at the same time observing Finn, Sergey, and Fox who were busy looking around the bunker for anything other than blankets and guns.

"Leon, do you think we should stay here for tonight? It's a place we can hide in case there are predators. What do you think? We can even use it as a resting place for our hunters."

"With everything that happened, we can't afford to stay here for the night. Even though I'd love to explore everything down here, we have to bring those guns to our people. In the worst case, I'm just going to hold them back while you guys make a run for it."

"I don't think I like you staying behind to fight the grounders alone."

I could only reassure her that it won't be like that, even though I was a little confused as to why Monroe was so worried about me, since I don't recall talking to her before this day. Then again, it might just have been because Monroe figured that I was the best chance of survival for the whole camp or maybe she has a crush on me, who knows?

"It's fine, Monroe, you don't have to worry about me. Just promise me that if something does really happen, you'll make sure everyone's safe here. And whatever happens, promise me you won't trust any Grounders even if I'm captured by them again."

"Yeah, that's obvious, fuck the grounders!"

"That's good, I count on you. Now, let's start caring the barrels and boxes back to Betsy."

In total, we managed to find three barrels of weapons and four boxes filled to the brim with ammunition. We even managed to find one whole barreled full of dummy ammunition, which we could use to get used to the weapons, since other than Bellamy, no one of us had used a rifle in his/her life. Alongside those weapons and bullets, we managed to gather thirty blankets and while it was far from enough for all of us, we are used to sharing things and if sharing a blanket would save us from freezing to death, and even then I don't believe someone wouldn't agree to share a blanket with a fellow delinquent.

We all got a rifle in our hands and even though no one actually knows how to properly use the guns, we can at least defend ourselves in case we meet the grounders. Other than the LMG Sergey had taken, the rest of the guns and boxes were quickly tied on the sides of our achelosaurus.

Before we left, Finn approach me.

"Shouldn't we close and hide the lid?

"That's a good idea. Let's do that."

I nodded while walking towards the end of the lid. Other than Sergey and Miller, the rest of the team came and helped me gather moss and dirt while the other two boys were watching the woods for anything that may threaten us. While not the prettiest attempt and definitely not the best, we did hide the lid, making it rather hard to find it without any proper coordinates, but I don't believe the trained eyes and tracking skills of those grounders would miss this place.

When we finished hiding the bunker entrance, our journey back home began.
