Chapter 10 Farming

Standing in his garden, Mo Xiaowen gazed at the area in front of him. 'So first things first, I need to clear the area and then prepare it for the seeds.' He pondered before beginning his work.

Inside his residence he had some gardening tools. Each residence had these as the disciples were expected to at least do a small amount of gardening work. The logic was that since disciples had a lot of free time anyway, it would be good to temper their mentality via a task like gardening.

Naturally the disciples didn't know this and merely did the minimum amount of work required to keep their garden up to par. This included Mo Xiaowen.

'I've never really done anything like this, but lets see....' Mo Xiaowen thought as he read through one of the books. Although he wasn't good at manual tasks, he was good at applying knowledge gained through reading. At least that's what Mo Xiaowen had thought, but he had underestimated the difficulty of the task.

A few days of continuous labor later, and he was satisfied with the condition of his garden, well from now on it would be his farm rather than his garden. 'Things are looking up now.'

He then reached into his pocket, and retrieved some seeds. These were obviously Body Tearing Grass seeds. Now one might ask where Mo Xiaowen got these from? Well the answer was pretty simple.

The seeds in a Body Tearing Grass were contained inside the grass itself, ranging from 3 to 5. Mo Xiaowen assumed the seeds were contained within the grass itself as it was quite common for various beasts to consume the grass. This meant that the seeds could be transported quite efficiently.

From his previous stash of 54 grasses, Mo Xiaowen had used 5 for paste in the past few days, and 10 for seeds. After extracting the seeds from a Body Tearing Grass it wasn't usable in the paste formula but that didn't matter much, because after planting the seeds he'd have no trouble collecting Body Tearing Grass from now on.

'I managed to obtain 38 seeds, which isn't half bad if I do say so myself. Now if I can just plant and grow them properly I'll have all the Body Tearing Grasses I could ever need.' With that thought he began to plant the seeds one after the other.

And a few minutes later it was done. All that was left was for him to continuously tend to the farm, but that wasn't anything too troublesome for Mo Xiaowen. If anything since he finished creating the farm he didn't have much to do anymore.

'Hmmm, should I maybe practice my punches? I've never been too good at martial arts, and as a cultivator I am bound to get into conflicts. Not to mention the tournament a year from now...but what even is correct punching form?'

He was quite conflicted by it all. As a person, or well as a disciple Mo Xiaowen had many strong points, his intelligence was above average, and his willingness to learn was quite commendable, not to mention that compared to the average person within the Flood Dragon Kingdom he was physically quite gifted. But his fighting capabilities were definitely subpar.

So much so that in the entry tests the only reason he made it in was, because out of the top 100 of the intelligence tests, in which Mo Xiaowen ranked 23rd, he was one of the only 3 with an acceptable body.

Keyword body. Just because physically Mo Xiaowen was passable to even above average didn't mean he had technical skill. This was a department in which he sorely lacked.

'Well there aren't any books on punching form in the library, should I just wing it?' He thought to himself before punching the air lightly.

"Woosh"

The air moved in reaction to his punch, but this didn't please Mo Xiaowen one bit. Of course his punch was going to look strong, his 4th Stage Body Tempering cultivation wasn't for show. Unfortunately the punch just didn't feel right to Mo Xiaowen.

It felt as though something was missing, but Mo Xiaowen didn't know what. "This is a waste of time, I am just gonna ask." Mo Xiaowen mumbled before leaving his residence.

There were over 100 disciples in his batch, he could just find someone and ask them. What were they going to do? Say no? It wasn't like this was a matter of life and death, it was merely Mo Xiaowen attempting to fill up his schedule.

'Once I reach the 5th Stage this problem will be solved.' He concluded before finding a random disciple. Mo Xiaowen albeit direct was not socially inept.

"Oh hey how are you? You must be in my batch right? Batch 898, right? I am Mo Xiaowen if you haven't heard of me before." He introduced himself with a smile.

"Eh, yes I am. But I need to go I... left my window open and I don't want any flies entering. Good bye!" The disciple replied before speeding off.

'....Am I ugly or something? I mean I know I am not handsome but I've never been called ugly before, plain at worst. Or is it that he's one of those recluses? His hair does go past his eyes in an ominous way.' Mo Xiaowen pondered before heading to the next disciple he could find.

Surprisingly finding a disciple that would talk to him normally was quite hard. So much so that he began to think that all the disciples had become social recluses.

Ironically because he himself had become a social recluse Mo Xiaowen forgot that around this time most disciples would have congregated into their own groups so any stranglers were literally all social recluses or people who genuinely had something important they needed to do.

"Well, when all else fails the library it is. Maybe the librarian knows a thing or two, after all he's an old man in a Sect, he should at least know how to punch."
