The desire for a better life had been a dominant factor when her family sold her into slavery to pay off their debts.
Famine & drought was raging in southern Arabia, and many animals of theirs such as goats, and camels had died off, and to make matters worse there were inter-clan wars over the few remaining waterholes. Her clan happened to bear the brunt of it; it had so far lost two of their largest oasis settlements. Several of their men had been killed in the skirmishes. They were one conflict away from being totally annihilated, it was resolved by the elders to retreat from the contested areas.
