"I'm so sorry, butterfly. I really am," Kaia whispered defeatedly once he had wiped her body and tucked her in bed. He had promised to protect her and yet he hadn't been able to protect her from herself.

She had hurt herself in the war in so many ways and for a moment there Kaia considered his options. He knew that it wasn't going to be pretty when morning came, but he also knew that his mate was more important than anyone else.

Maybe that's why as he looked at his mate, the barbarian made the one choice that could turn things upside down, between him and her.

"Haru, wake up and get the others to the alpha's office. Urgent meeting," Kaia said in the mind link, before shutting it instantly that anyone could have assumed that it was just them hearing things.
