The fresh breeze made her open her eyes. The first thing she's staring at is the water. It seems as though she's beside the beach.
It seems like she has been closing her eyes for so long. They feel sticky and gummy. And she also felt tired.
She stretched before she tried to concentrate again because it doesn't make any sense that she was beside a stream or an ocean.
Would she say she teleported here?
Ok, that doesn't make any sense. She remembered her smiling up at Max at the hospital with John and Mary rejoicing and happy she and Max would get married soon.
"Will you get up now! "A voice screamed in her head and Jessica went stiff.
She recognized that voice anywhere, it was her mom. Though, she seemed unsure for a moment because it was not possible she would be hearing her voice.
She was supposed to wake up beside Max. Yes, because she was getting married soon.
She craned her neck to the path from where the voice came from. She stared at the young woman in her early forties. Slim and fit, young and beautiful.
Her mouth dropped open in shock and her heart made a sudden thud in her chest.
She found it difficult to comprehend it. Who was she? She does look like Jessica but well, her older version.
Though, it felt like she was just dreaming, or maybe she was hallucinating.
"Why are you even sleeping for so long! Are you pregnant?" Her mother screamed again, startling Jessica the most. It seemed like a dream or maybe it was.
Her mother died a long time ago before the epidemic broke out. But why was she staring at her now? And where was Max for Christ's sake?
A huge man walked slowly towards the woman and hung his left arm over her shoulder. There was a bright smile on his face, "Don't disturb yourself over Jessica. She's old enough to cater for herself, "the man said, calmly.
Jessica stared at the man and her eyes almost came out of their socket. Jessica wouldn't mistake it. She couldn't even believe it.
Even though he looked older, she wouldn't fail to recognize the man that has been treating her as a father before he died five years ago. Well, that doesn't make any sense either.
Or was she dead? Was she seeing them because she was dead? It felt real anyways, seeing them as they were, as loving couples and loving parents.
Nevertheless, something told her those two are people she would never loveless.
She got up in a hurry and raced toward them. Then pulled both of them into a bear hug
She pulled apart after a while and looked over at her mom's questioning face, 'Is this, you mom? '
Jessica's mom, Mary glanced over at her husband, with a puzzled look, "Are you, ok darling?"
Jessica nodded once, a tear in her eyes, "she felt as though It had been forever since she last saw her. But maybe not, she must have dreamt.
Though she doesn't even understand anything. She was fighting an army of zombies a moment ago. Why is she here? And what was really happening?
Could it really have been a dream? Could this life have been the real one? But the dream of the zombies felt so real.
What was she thinking of? Why would she sleep only to dream that the world got destroyed? That there were undead? It doesn't make sense.
Something really must be wrong with her. Anyways, she was glad to be here, to be allowed to be with her family again
"Are you ok, Jessica?" Douglas, her father questioned with a skeptical look, "You've been acting strange since you came back from the hospital."
Jessica raised a brow and thought about it quickly.
Then the memory came in slowly. It looked as though she was holding two different memories. Perhaps, another memory of someone that wasn't her.
She remembered going to the hospital, alright and when she woke up, she found herself in the forest with thousands of undead after her. And now, she's back, here? It doesn't even make any fucking sense.
"I'm going to train, dad," she said hurriedly and started back, walking away from them.
It seemed like her memories were returning to her already. She can now recognize this part of her life and the fact that she was a trained soldier.
"You are not supposed to train yet, you just healed up," her mom screamed behind her. Little did she know that Jessica had been training since she was twenty, secretly.
Her parents were so scared then because of the illness that was diagnosed in her body. Well, she had been at risk of dying since she was so young.
And she had been getting treatment since then. She was always visiting the hospital and getting treatment, especially whenever she got sick.
She was banned from doing anything in school. She was not supposed to go for sports or to serve punishment in school. The teachers also knew about her so they avoided her at all costs.
There was even a case that happened when she was in high school. The teacher took some students to the library to rearrange the books and Jessica was among them.
Then, she fainted and refused to wake up until three days later.
But Jessica started training the moment she started getting treatment. She fainted severally but she wouldn't stop. In fact, she got trained secretly.
Jessica continued to walk nevertheless. Her mind was reeling. She couldn't even think properly.
Actually, she felt like something was wrong somewhere. All she saw wasn't something she could count as dreams. It looked like a warning to her.
"Do you think she just started training? She has been training for a while now," she heard her father say before leaving the beachside.
Jessica stopped by the bar and ordered a chilled drink. She sat and thought about the dream she had. Something seemed off somewhere. It was like she was teleported somewhere. The dream felt so real as if it was happening.
But also, two things in this dream were real. She did suffer from a strange illness but she got better five years ago. And she was going to be twenty-eight in weeks.
Aside from that, everything looked absurd. There was no way there would be human beings with cannibal desires. Besides, her parents are alive and she doesn't know who Max is. In one word, she had never meant anyone she saw in her dream.
What does she expect? Too many movies can affect thinking ability.
She needs to go and see Jake
.
"Do you think Charles is going to do it? Why will he think of destroying the world?" Stanley asked anxiously," It doesn't even make any sense no matter how much I think about it," He sighed and his voice shook with a great tremor to it.
Everything was confusing. And they needed to sort it out in time.
"Charles is a convicted criminal. It's normal if he wants revenge," Gaius replied.
Marcus sighed," But it's not like he was innocent. He committed all the crimes they held him for," he seemed very upset about it.
Well, everyone was.
" Seems like he's not ready to accept that," Gauis clicked on some buttons on the laptop. He looked up, then back at Marcus, "Who took the serum?"
"We did," it was Marcus who answered," And we've made use of it."
It was like Gauis didn't understand what he meant," You mean that you've found someone to use it?" He looked very surprised at it.
" Yes sir, we did, "Stanley picked up, with a victory smile.
Gaius looked over at Stanley, "Incorrect", he just wouldn't accept it, wouldn't believe it. They were done with the experiment but they had no one to use as an observing patient, "How did you get the person to take it?"
"She came here to get her father's test, "Marcus started, "And we lured her to get tested too."
Stanley sighed and stretches her head, "I got some information around that she has been acting strange recently. It worked. You can come by and interrogate her if you are so hard to be convinced, "she sighed again and relaxed in her chair
"You could have killed her! What if she didn't survive it?" Gauis screamed suddenly, his fear etched in his voice
Marcus looked away. He was right, he knew but it was just inevitable, "We needed to try the serum on time. That was what you told us," he looked up at him again," Thankfully she survived."
Gaius looked away and thought about it, then he smiles, "We will leave for Roderwall tomorrow. If this turns out real, then it's a great step in the science world. And we've found someone that will stop Charles for real".
Stanley and Marcus smiled happily. They knew they would get the solution to their problem sooner.
