Settled on the counter was a phone book, it was opened to the social services page. Benny was currently on the phone with someone, his voice was hushed and quiet as he spoke.
"Yeah, look, all I know is that they're scared to death . . . Yeah, I think maybe they've been abused or . . . kidnapped or something." Benny looked through the kitchen window at the thre. . .Uh . . . Two young children eating food at the table Benny left them at. He looked around through the window, spotting Twelve at one of the windows.
Benny sighed, leaning his head on his arm, "Yeah, it'd be great if someone would come by. Yeah, we're at 4819 Randolph lane. Yeah Randolph." Benny told the social service worker, looking away from the window.
He continued to talk on the phone, not paying attention to the dining area.
. . . .
Back in the dining area, Twelve was currently looking out of the large windows while Eleven and Ten finished up their fries and drink. Eleven became aware that Twelve was roaming around and knocking things down from shelves and tables, "Twelve. Come." She called him, getting a growl in response.
She turned to him and gave him a sharp look, "Twelve. Come here. Now." She repeated, her voice not as soft as before.
She heard Twelve whine a little before sulking over to her and Ten, who was trying to hide his amusement at the scene. Twelve took a seat next to Eleven and laid his head on the table, watching the two kids take the last fries from their baskets.
He then became aware of a soft, high-pitched noise. Eeeee. Eeeee. Eeeee. He lifted his head up from the table and looked around for the source of the noise, He finally spotted an old and rusty oscillating metal fan. It was squeaking with every turn. Eeeee. Eeeee. Eeeee.
It was incessant. Annoying.
Twelve turned to Eleven, poking her cheek until she looked at him.
"What?" She asked, but he didn't respond verbally. He just pointed at the oscillating fan with a small pout forming, it made Ten and Eleven chuckle. "Okay." She said before looking over at the fan and narrowed her eyes at it. The fan and blades suddenly stop, like they somehow froze in place.
Eleven looked away from it, looking over at Twelve. Twelve grinned at her, opening his mouth a little before quickly closing it and sleeping out of the chair to roam around again. Eleven sighed, looking over at Ten, who just shook his head.
"Leave him for now. Need safe place first." He told her with a sad smile, "Okay." She nodded, turning to look at the young boy who was sitting on top of a table, swinging his legs back and forth as he hummed a tune.
Soon, Eleven thought, We'll be safe.
. . . . .
Joyce was on the phone, back facing Jonathan who was on the couch in the living room, "Is lonnie there?" She hurriedly asked when the phone connected, "Lonnie isn't here right now." The voice of a young woman said from the otherside of the phone.
"Can you please. ."
"I told you, lonnie's not here"
"Who is this?"
"I'm his girlfriend, Cynthia."
"Cynthia."
"Who the hell is this?"
"Cynthia, this is Joyce."
"Who?"
"Lonnie's ex-wife. I really need to speak to him."
"Lonnie's not here."
"Can you please put- -"
"Why don't you call back later?"
"No! No, later. Now!"
Joyce was about to continue asking for Lonnie when the phone line disconnected. Joyce slammed the phone back onto the receiver, "Bitch!"
"Mom." Jonathan called from the couch, "What?" She snapped, turning around to look at him, "You have to stay calm." Joyce chuckled but it wasn't a happy chuckle. No it was a pissed off chuckle.
"Have you tried calling Rick's parents again?" Jonathan inquired, leaning over the coffee table a little.
Joyce shook her head, "No. I'll call them again once I'm finished with this." She sighed, picking up the phone again. She put in Lonnie's phone number again with the phone to her ear.
Joyce was muttering to herself, while Jonathan lowered his head slightly before looking away and focusing on the Missing person's posters on the table.
The phone was ringing, before the voicemail came on.
"Hey, You've reached Lonnie. Leave a message and I'll holler right back at ya."
And Joyce almost broke down, "Lonnie, some teenager just hung up on me. Will and Rick . . . they're missing. I don't know where they are." Her voice was cracking a little, "I-I need . .. I just need you to call me back, please just. ." The answering machine suddenly beeped, the line disconnecting again.
Joyce slammed the phone again, "Damn it! Damn it!" She shouted, putting her hand over her eyes as she sighed deeply.
In the living room, Jonathan suddenly called out: "Mom?" Joyce looked back at Jonathan, Irritation visible on her face. However, the irritation faded when she realized that Jonathan wasn't looking at her but out the window.
Jonathan stood up, eyes focused on the window on the wall near the door. "Cops." Was all he said, but just that was enough to get Joyce bursting through the front door, Jonathan following her to the porch.
Outside the house were two cop cars, Hopper's chevy blazer and a black cop car. Hopper was already out of his truck and had grabbed two bikes from the back of his car.
Will and Maverick's bikes.
Joyce and Jonathan felt their hearts sink, fighting back their panic as they tried to remain calm.
. . . . .
Hopper, Callahan and Powell were inside the house along with Joyce and Jonathan.
"They were just lying there?" Joyce questioned Hopper, "Yeah. Cal?" He didn't elaborate at all.
He waved his hand towards the kitchen, meaning for Callahan to search the kitchen.
"Did they have any blood on them, or. . ."
"No, no, no, no, no, . . . Phil?" Hop called as he walked around the house with Joyce and Jonathan following behind him, "If you found the bikes out there, why are you here?" Jonathan Queried, him and his mom following behind Hopper as he entered the kitchen.
"Well, they had a key to the house, right?" Hop suddenly asked, "Yeah." Jonathan answered him.
"So. . ." Hop started as he walked over to the kitchen counters, looking out the window briefly,
"Maybe they came home."
"Y-You think I didn't check my own house?" Joyce stammered, her eyes following Hop. "I'm not saying that." He clarified, his feet taking him towards the back door. His eyes wandered to a mark on the wall, "Has this always been here?" He pointed it out, inquiring as touched it lightly. It looked like someone had thrown the door open hard.
"What? I-I don't know. Probably. I mean, I have two boys. Look at this place." Joyce threw her arms up, looking around her messy home. Hopper moved away from the damaged wall, moving to open the back door. He pushed the wall back against the wall, the damaged spot aligning perfectly with the doorknob, "You're not sure?" He looked back up at her. Joyce hesitated, sighing.
. . . . .
Mike was sitting down in his basement, at the table with five seats. On the grid map, that was still settled on the table, was, among other things, the Demogorgon, Will's wizard and Rick's rogue. They particularly stuck out, especially to Mike.
Mike was sitting down at the table, his walkie-talkie next to his ear as he pushed down the button on the side before speaking into it: "Lucas, do you copy? It's Mike. Lucas?"
"Hey, Its Lucas." The other side of the walkie spoke, Mike sighed, "I know its you and say "Over" when you're done talking so I know when you're done talking. Over."
"I'm done. Over."
"I'm worried about Will and Rick. Over."
"Yeah. This is crazy. Over."
" I was thinking . . . Will could've cast protection last night, but he didn't. He cast Fireball, and Rick also ultimately chose Fireball instead of protection. Over."
"What's your point? Over."
"My point is . . .Will could have played it safe, and Rick could have persuaded him to, but neither did. Will and Rick put themselves in danger to help the party. Over."
Mike didn't get a response for a few seconds before Lucas suddenly said, "Meet me in ten. Over and Out."
Both pushing down the antenna on the walkies at the same time.
. . . . .
Mike shoved a few flashlights into his backpack before zipping it up. He exited the garage on his bike. As he started driving down the driveway, however, He looked over at his house and happened to see. . . . Steve Harrington. He was attempting to climb into Nancy's bedroom via the window.
He happened to lock eyes with Mike, awkward, he tried to make himself seem like he wasn't doing anything and just casually chilling on a tool box/air conditioner (I honestly have no idea what Steve was standing on in that scene.).
They stared at each other for a few seconds before Mike sighed and pedaled away from his house.
. . . . . .
WHOOSH! Water was rushing out of a faucet as Benny was cleaning dishes in the kitchen. Ten, Eleven and Twelve were currently seated on a counter. They each had a pint of ice cream in their laps, Well Ten and Eleven did, Ten had chocolate ice cream and Eleven had strawberry ice cream. The Ice cream had been too cold for Twelve's sensitive mouth so Benny gave him some cookies that he found.
Ten and Eleven were basically shoving the ice cream in their mouths while Twelve was devouring the cookies quickly. They weren't concerned about anything else but their food, well Dessert.
"You guys like that ice cream and cookies, Huh?" Benny suddenly spoke, surprising the kids. Twelve was in the middle of handing Ten a chocolate chip cookie when Benny abruptly started speaking.
They all looked up at the nice man, and then did something unexpected.
They smiled at him.
It was probably the first time today that the three of them actually looked like children, "Smile looks good on you three." He complimented them, causing their smiles to fade as they scrunched up their eyebrows.
They all looked at Benny confused, "You know, Smile?" He gave them a smile, demonstrating for them. It made the three of them smile back at him, It made Benny chuckle. He went back to cleaning the dishes while the radio in the background faintly played some music.
The three kids went back to eating their snacks when there was a knock on the door, putting the three kids on edge. They all turned to the dining area, Twelve letting a few low growls with his teeth bared.
The three kids quickly turned back to Benny, the panic on their faces was very visible to him.
"All right. Just sit tight. Whoever it is, I'll tell'em to go away rea quick, all right?" Benny reassured them, pulling the towel on his shoulder off as he wiped his hands before setting it on the counter. He then walked out of the kitchen, leaving the children alone with their worries and fears.
Ten quickly pulled Eleven and Twelve closer to him, eyes focused on swinging kitchen doors.
. . . . .
The knocking continued while Benny walked into the Dining room, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. . ." He walked over to the front door, swinging it open a bit. "Hey, Can I help you?" He saw a friendly looking woman who looked to be in her 40's. She was smiling as she spoke, "Hi, you must be Benny Hammond."
"I'm afraid I am. I'm afraid we're closed for the evening, too." He told the woman with blonde hair, "So try back tomorrow morning."
"Connie Frazier. Social Services." The woman suddenly introduced herself to Benny, who quickly reacted and apologized to her, "Ah, Social Services. My apologies. I didn't expect you soon." He shook the hand she offered, looking around outside before looking back at 'Connie'
"That's a heck of a drive."
"Not too bad this time of night." 'Connie' nodded her head, a smile still hanging on her lips.
Benny lowered his voice, looking over his shoulder towards the kitchen. "Hey, listen, I . . . I haven't told them that you're coming yet. I didn't want them running off again, they're a tad . . . skittish."
Benny informed 'Connie'.
Back in the kitchen, The three children were watching through the windows in the kitchen. Twelve's growling became louder, Ten and Eleven flanking his sides while they watched the front door.
Back at the front door, 'Connie' replied: "Children I work with usually are."
"Right, right." He nodded his head.
There was a second of silence before 'Connie' grinned with her teeth showing, "So, where are they?" She inquired, snapping Benny out of his small silence, "Right. They're in the kitchen." Benny then turned around, "Come on up. I'll introduce you." He led her into the restaurant, "Thank you." She replied walking in behind him.
He started leading her towards the kitchen, "Sorry again for trying to turn you away there." Benny apologized again, "It's fine." 'Connie' smiled, looking around the restaurant, "You know, it's funny. Your, uh, voice sounds different on the- - -" Benny was turning around to look at 'Connie' but before he could finish his sentence, A silenced gunshot went off, and Benny's body tumbled to the ground.
Lifeless and bleeding.
The gunshot scared the children, as they were watching the whole thing, Their eyes widened as they watched Benny's body collapse. The kids quickly hopped off the counter, Ten helping Twelve down, before they raced towards the swinging doors. They knocked a few dishes down but they didn't have the time to worry about that right now. They pushed through the doors, headed towards the storage room where the back door was.
However when they got there, two agents came in from the back door with guns pointed at the children. The three kids crashed to a halt, realizing that they were trapped.
Eleven and Ten acted first.
Eleven narrowed her eyes, blood slowly dripping from her nose as she threw one agent against the wall and exploded their brain inside their head, causing the body to fall to the ground lifeless.
While Eleven was done, the other agent looked terrified and quickly fired their gun, the older two quickly dodged with wide eyes but Twelve wasn't as lucky. He barely managed to dodge which resulted in his leg getting badly grazed.
"Ngh!" He cried out, clenching his teeth as he held his leg that was bleeding quite badly. Eleven was by his side quickly and let him lean on her as Ten held his hand out to the other agent. At first nothing happened, making the remaining agent feel smug. He raised his gun again when he smelled . . . Fire?
He looked down and saw his pant leg on fire and then his sleeve . . . The fire spread in a split second, leaving the agent no time to scream or cry for help and then he was dead. His body burnt and lay on the floor close to the other dead agent.
The children then heard the door in the dining area open, they could guess who came in. They hurriedly ran out the door, Ten carrying Twelve in a princess hold with one arm while His other hand was holding onto Eleven's hand.
As they entered the forest and ran farther, Twelve caught the smell of someone familiar.
"Papa. . ." He whispered, blood running down his leg and hands. "STAY."
As Dr. Brenner burst out the back door, looking for his 'Children' he suddenly felt his body freeze. He tried to move but couldn't, it was like his body was frozen in ice or he was paralyzed.
"Twelve, Why?"
. . . . . . .
Back with Mike, Lucas and Dustin were biking down the road with their headlights on.
"Ah, man. This is it." Lucas told them, all three of them slowly down thor bikes as they got closer to the police tape. When Dustin saw it, he heaved a sigh, definitely not up for this at the dead of night. Then all of a sudden, the three heard thunder rumbling above them.
"Hey, guys. You feel that?" Dustin inquired, putting his hand out slightly to feel if it was raining. He was proven right when he felt water droplets splash on his face, "I think maybe we should go back." Dustin suggested but Mike wouldn't listen to him, "No." He said before handing Dustin a walkie-talkie.
"We're not going back. Just stay close. Come on." Mike told Dustin before and Lucas ducked under the police tape and headed into the woods, "Just stay on channel six. Don't do anything stupid." Mike made sure to remind him.
Dustin leaned on his bike, not liking this one bit. He watched his two best friends go deeper and deeper into the woods, with thunder rumbling above his head.
He finally gathered up the courage, "Hey, guys, wait up. Wait up!" He shouted, climbing off his bike and hurrying after Mike and Lucas. The two waited for him to catch up with them, seeing him stumble a little before he caught up to them.
The three then continued walking through the dark, creepy woods.
. . . . .
It's been a little while since the boys started searching, they were calling for their friends:
"Will!!"
"Rick!!"
Thunder was still rumbling and lightning was still flashing above them. Their flashlights looking like stars in the dark. It had started raining heavily, so they had their hoodies and jackets zipped up.
"Will!!"
"Byers!!"
"Wynd!!"
They continued on calling for them, hoping to receive some sort of response.
"I've got your X-Men 134!!" Dustin shouted but they still got no response whatsoever. "Guys, I really think we should turn back."
"Seriously Dustin? You wanna be a baby, then go home already!" Lucas shouted to Dustin, "I'm just being realistic, Lucas!" Dustin argued back, "No, you're just being a big sissy!"
"Did you ever think Will and Rick went missing because they ran into something bad? And we're going to the exact same spot where they were seen last? And we have no weapons or anything?" Dustin rationalized, swinging his arms about.
"Dustin, shut up." Mike told him, eyes focused ahead of him. "I'm just saying, does that seem smart to you?" Dustin reasoned again but Shut up when Mike shouted to him, "Shut up! Shut up!" It was clear that he wasn't annoyed with him, but instead he heard something.
Rustling was coming from the area around them, "Did you guys hear that?" He inquired, successfully grabbing the two other boys' attention. There was more rustling coming from behind the boys, startling them. They quickly turned around and swept their flashlights across the area but didn't see anything.
They looked a second longer when more rustling came from the side of the boys, making they gasp loudly as they quickly turned that way, shining their flashlights illuminating . . .
Ten, Eleven and Twelve, who were soaked to the bone. They all had shaved head, wide eyes, Benny's t-shirts and blood on them. The three boys instantly lock eyes with each of the kids their ages.
Mike happens to lock eyes with Twelve, who was about to pass out from blood loss, but their gaze held nonetheless.
Thunder overhead boomed and lightning flashed and then . . . .
