"Look, sweetie. Grandpa and Grandma are here."
Albern and Aquila stood still, slowly approaching Kalea and her baby. Their hearts warmed as they gazed at the baby girl who was their granddaughter, the one they had always wished for from their son, Arthur.
Selma looked at them and, unexpectedly, she smiled, taking them by surprise.
"Oh my God! She ... she smiled at us," Aquila said, her voice filled with emotion, a tear nearly escaping from the corner of her eye. Seeing this reaction, Kalea smiled knowingly. "May I hold her?" Aquila asked.
Kalea nodded, carefully handing Selma over to Aquila. Selma seemed unbothered, staring at her grandmother with wide, innocent eyes. Her tiny hands grasped at the air as if searching for something. Aquila held her breath, feeling overwhelmed with joy. She felt like crying out of happiness but held it back, her soft smile remaining.
