Chapter 43: Finally, Some Answers

Angela POV

What are we missing?

Something in his room?

“Maverick.” I pull his attention. He is strained. His eyes are heavy, his frown heavier. The concern and worry he holds for Cayden waves off his body, and I know he worries for his pack too. But this is why I’m here. I will stand for my king, even after I’m gone.

“We are missing a piece of the puzzle,” I say.

“I agree,” he replies, looking back over at his house staff, “how is only a quarter of the staff affected with the same symptoms Cayden has, yet the others are as healthy as they were yesterday?”

“My thoughts exactly. But what?”

Maverick runs his hands through his hair and I notice he’s let it grow out. It’s a nice look.

“Let’s run over what we know,” he whispers as we stand away from the others. Dr. Hawks has gone back to the staff, which is better because I would hate to have to use my skills to protect my king from an understandably angry mother.
