{MAYA}
"You should think about the consequences of your magnetic field being too strong…" Maya was shouting as she sang along with the song on the radio.
She was obsessed with Taylor Swift but if asked she would say it was not an obsession but rather, she loved her. She was her greatest fan.
"... because you are so gorgeous…" Maya continued to sing and when she heard a honk behind her she reduced the volume and wanted to get her head off the car and shout at the person honking behind her and telling them they are ruining her perfect day with her best singer.
Maya started driving and reduced the volume of the music in the car, it was time she began thinking of what exactly was going on with her best friend, yes, she couldn't remember the last time they fought, but she never thought the first time she would fight with him, he would call her rich girl.
Brent knew how much Maya hated whenever anyone call her that and he went ahead and called her anyways, Maya wanted to go back and ask him what was really wrong, but she couldn't Brent had crossed a line she thought he would never since they have been friends for the past four years and if he had said that to her when they met on their first year, Maya wouldn't have minded it at all.
Maya wanted really badly to check her phone and once again stopped herself, she was not going to cause an accident because of a boy, no she needed to get home and talk to her mother and brothers before they left.
Her phone rang, she checked it on the screen in front of the car wishing it was Brent but she found it was her mother, she picked up and sigh, "Maya, did you just sigh at your mother?"
"No mom. 'Sup."
"Sup, are you okay?"
"Yes mom, what? Do you think I can't say that?"
"Hey, big sis, where have you arrived." Maya heard one of her twin brother's voices, she answered, "I am almost there."
"Oh."
"Yes, mum am almost there, remember…"
"Yes, love. No phone while driving, sorry I thought you weres still with Brent. Drive safe."
Maya's mother ended the call and Maya couldn't help but sigh, why was her mother beginning to sound like that when she talked about Brent? Maya wondered if she had spoken with her best friend and if he had told her what had happened.
The thing about Maya's family was that they always knew what was going on in one another's lives, and to them, it was not meddling but rather being aware of what was going on in one another's life.
Maya knew exactly what was going on in her parents' life, sister and brothers. Well, at least that was what Maya thought and she was going to get the shock of her life soon enough.
She tried not to think about Brent and couldn't, that was how Maya was, she cared a lot and that was one of the things her mother had applauded her when she had chosen to become a counselor, she just couldn't help it but care.
Maya knew how much to care for people and since the list was not that long for the people in her life to caring for, she found it really easy.
"Aargh!" Maya groaned, why was she suddenly feeling like she needed to know what it was that made Brent so angry at her.
Yes, Maya knew he was not angry at her but rather he was directing the anger from his mother to her, but why was she feeling like if she didn't know what was wrong she would go crazy, why did it matter all of a sudden that much?
Maya honked when she saw a car coming directly toward her, she was not going to face her death before she told her best friend never to call her queen or the rich girl.
Yes, she was rich but she didn't want anyone to remind her that, and anyways whenever they joked, Maya would always tell Brent that her parent being rich was not the same as her being rich, the money belonged to her parent and not her.
Maya knew what has happened to Brent's family had been terrible and her mother had made sure to handle it. Her father was also helping Brent and never in a million years did Maya think she could hear Brent referring to himself as poor.
"Promise me never to refer to yourself as pathetic poor." Those were Maya's words years ago to Brent, it was the beginning of their friendship and Brent had agreed to it.
They had promised each other and Maya had even joked that she was never going to call herself rich, something, of course, she had never referred to herself as such, but she had needed to say that to make Brent comfortable.
"I also promise not to call you rich girl." Brent had said.
Maya opened the window and put one of her hands out the window, there were no cars on the road as it was when she was leaving the shop, so she didn't have to worry about a speeding car going to chop her hand off.
After a few minutes, she placed it back and closed the window a little bit.
To Maya being called a rich girl meant she was sassy, brat, mean, and all those names you normally hear rich girls are being labeled and Maya never wanted to be called that because others would think she was one of those people.
"Have I done something bad?" Maya wondered, maybe she had said something to Brent without knowing, she needed to sit and think.
Maya shook her head and shouted, "NO!" She increased the volume and began singing while driving slowly, there was no hurry and as her mother had told her, they were waiting for her anyways.
