She had been worked like a horse while Wu Ming was basically being given a treasure just to live in.
Wu Ming didn't take Wang Yan seriously. He thought that she had only been saying that to make him appreciate her master's kindness. It was quite reasonable on his part because nobody would ever imagine straw to be a heavenly treasure. As such he asked Wang Yan to lead the way towards this straw.
When he laid eyes on that straw he was mesmerized by the absolutely monstrous quantity of qi oozing out of it. It had to be emphasized that the qi oozing out was only the excessive qi that the straw could not contain.
This straw was a natural treasure that could absorb the qi of heaven and earth and release pure and unadulterated qi that could be readily absorbed. It acted like a natural filter for qi. If his hut was going to be made out of the same material then it meant that he would have access to unending qi of heaven and earth.
He couldn't help but lament that if he had had this treasure with him in his childhood, he would never have thought of converting to demonic cultivation technique.
Zhang Jian had given him such a heavenly treasure just to build his residence, it made him eternally grateful to the humble and generous master who had saved his life.
"I don't know how you know master or what your goal is in coming here. I especially don't know why master is being so generous towards you either, but I want you to know one thing. For the duration of your stay here, you better not harbor any evil intention towards my master or your death won't be an easy one. As long as you abide by this tiny requirement of mine, we won't have a problem in the future."
Wang Yan's voice had been surprisingly fierce when threatening Wu Ming. Cerberus had previously thought that the girl might have lost her edge since she had been working as normal farm girl for as long as she had been here, but was surprised to see that she was still as sharp as ever.
"Girl, don't bother. You can rest assured that I only want to live a calm and peaceful life. This place and your master is my only chance for that. I would never be so stupid as to strike an axe on my own feet knowingly."
Wu Ming didn't mind Wang Yan's threat at all since it only showed how much she appreciated Zhang Jian. Wu Ming moved past her and picked up a bundle of straw from the pile and carried them back to a slightly level place just beside Zhang Jian's hut.
He had decided to build his hut right next to it. Although Wu Ming had been rich in the past but he had never been so extravagant before. At this moment he truly felt like a spoiled and pampered rich second generation brat.
As Wu Ming was carrying back the bundle of straw on his shoulders, the weight caused him to bend his back slightly. As such his eyes were focused on the path below. Before long, Wu Ming came across a golden fishbone that looked as hard as metal. Seeing the fishbone being treated like fertilizer or common garbage lying by the side of the road, Wu Ming understood that what were treasures in his eyes held no more use than garbage in Zhang Jian's eyes.
The gilded bones, the symmetrical pattern of runes and the terrifying dark aura being emitted was the reason that Wu Ming truly understood the greatness of Zhang Jian, his new master. It had to be the remains of a terribly powerful being.
Wu Ming at that moment became filled with endless gratitude and relief since he had found the tiniest inkling of how powerful Zhang Jian was and how powerful Wu Ming himself had become through proxy.
After all if you want to kick someone's dog, you have to take permission from its master first. Thinking until then, Wu Ming's mood became slightly more chipper after all he had been quite morose for some days thinking of his approaching death and retribution.
Wu Ming placed the straw on the place that he intended to build his hut on. He gathered the straw together and was busy binding it together using a tight thread. He had to make sure that the straw was tightly bound because only then would the hut have the stout and sturdy foundation that it needed.
He finished working on the straw he had brought before and was about to turn around to fetch some more before an unprecedentedly huge and monstrous aura held him in his place. No matter how hard he tried, he could not break out of the paralytic state that the aura had put him into.
He struggled fiercely because he had only just then achieved his freedom but he was going to be killed right after.
Even if Zhang Jian came now, he wouldn't be able to save Wu Ming since he was already under the control of the aura and was bound to die.
Rather than struggling until the end, Wu Ming wanted it to end immediately.
He did not want to prolong his suffering endlessly therefore he closed his eyes and waited for the deathblow but to his astonishment, that blow never came.
Instead a voice spoke up in his mind, breaking him out of his pathetic state of self-pity.
"Hey, Kid."
The aura had vanished. As soon as it did Wu Ming rolled away to the side and turned around to face his attacker.
What stood in front of him was not some terrible monster but the yellow dog Cerberus that Wu Ming had previously been ignoring.
Even the dog had reached the Ascension Stage, just how many monsters were there in this place. Exactly how powerful was Zhang Jian to have such monsters, who were each more powerful than the last, to listen to his whims.
"Kid, you seem like a smart one to me. Don't be so stupid as to think that you can one up Zhang Jian."
Cerberus' voice broke him out of his reverie.
"No matter how high your intelligence might be, it will still crumble in front of his absolute power and strength. Even I won't be able to make a single dent on him let alone you."
Cerberus let out a sigh at the end that revealed its frustration. The gap between Cerberus and Zhang Jian looked so vast to it that it had not even dared to think of measuring it, let alone crossing it.
Cerberus wanted to straighten the newcomer's beliefs lest he dug his own grave.
Wu Ming was still in the process of understanding the limit of Zhang Jian's power when Cerberus came over to threaten him.
"If you dare have any thoughts about harming Zhang Jian, then you should at least know beforehand that you ending up turning into ashes or your soul shattering into a gazillion pieces is quite possible. Your survival probability is definitely below zero percent. Keep that in mind before you think of doing anything stupid."
Wu Ming still remembered how Zhang Jian's calligraphy had blown the Black Cat, who was more powerful than himself, to the kingdom come; and had no intentions of following suit.
"You don't have to worry about me. I am thoroughly devoid of any such intentions. I like myself alive, thank you."
Wu Ming knew that Cerberus had kind intentions in warning him so he replied in kind to reassure it.
Cerberus could see that its words of warning had reached Wu Ming, so it turned around and slowly walked back towards the hut to relax for the evening.
Seeing that Cerberus had walked away, Wu Ming continued to bring more and more straw and bound them together before he started building his private space. Since Wang Yan knew nothing about building a hut, she could only do the grunt work and moved the straw along with him.
When he had gotten most of the work done, Zhang Jian came out and shouted towards the two who were busy laboring away and called them for dinner.
The three of them sat around the dinner table which did not have anything fancy on it. There was one meat dish and one vegetable dish each but the smell and the erupting qi was enough for him to thank the heavens and his ancestors' good deeds a hundred times over.
