Drowning on Nothing

She 'mouthed who is that?' I signaled that I would tell her later. Each table in the room could easily seat 100. They were huge, long, wooden tables, full of food. We sat down at the table for dinner, and Kamrin took one seat next to me, and Kara the other. When I sat down, I noticed the beautiful etchings on the tables. Gorgeous scenes of wolves running, hunting, playing, and doing a mating dance covered each inch of the table. Pausing my admiration of the art, I looked around and noticed that the Head Alpha and Luna were mingling with wolves of all ranks. It struck me as strange that there was no table reserved for them to sit at. Across from me sat one of the most attractive men I have ever seen. He was staring at me. More importantly, he was reading my card. He sat down across from me and another male sat across from Kara. We sat in silence the whole dinner, and the boys never took their eyes off of me and Kara. When we finished eating, Kamrin pulled my wrist from the table, which earned a low growl from the attractive male across from me. Upon hearing this, Kamrin immediately let go but kept walking .

When we were a decent amount away from our table, I asked "Who was the possessive freak staring at me?"

Kamrin looked at me in disbelief. "That was Luka Valentine and his friend Isaac Jameston. As you know, Luka is the Alpha of the Fierce Darkness pack. As you probably don't know, Isaac is the alpha of the Dark Shadow Pack. They are best friends, partners in crime. It seems Luka and Isaac have taken a possible interest in you both," he said almost in disappointment. He led me back to my room as Kara followed. When we got there, Kara opened the door, and Kamrin basically threw me into the room angrily and slammed the door. I landed on the floor with a hard thud. Kara ran over to me, asked me if I was ok, and helped me up.

"Now, tell me what is going on," Kara demanded, her voice filled with urgency. She fiddled with the hair that rested over her shoulder.

I told her how everything happened, how I was forced to come or my brother would die, how Kamrin is my ex-best friend and now prison warden, how I'm supposed to mate no matter what, and how I'm either going to mate a monster or Kamrin.

"Wow, Hannah… just wow. I'll be your new best friend. I never liked that Kamrin ,and everyone has heard of Luka and his little, more like huge scene, a year ago where he lashed out and killed fifty wolves, mostly pups and she-wolves," she said. I just nodded, thinking how hopeless my situation is if Luka is already showing interest.

After a moment of silence, I decided to ask "What's your story?" I asked it quickly with a slight embarrassment at the fact I was asking a stranger something this personal.

"Well… I was a rogue on the edge of your boundary, across the river. My homeland now looks like a war zone. I used to live there with my family: my parents and my two brothers, one younger and one older. We were living peacefully in a patch of land unclaimed. One day an alpha and about ten of his warriors came into our area and demanded we join a pack or die. We lived out by ourselves forever, and we were taught to defend our home in the same manner my ancestors had. I was about 13 at the time, so my parents sent me and my younger brother to the border. I watched them slit the throat of my father and brother, despite already pinning them. They had no intention of integrating them into a pack, only one in getting rid of the rogue threat on their border. After my father and older brother were killed, my mother had to flee because she was not a full werewolf. Once she fled, they lit my home on fire while my brother and I watched everything we knew be destroyed. My younger brother and I were surrounded by huge wolves. My little brother was hugging me, and we were both crying. The wolves started growling louder, until everything went black. I was placed into the custody of the Moon at Midnight pack, while my brother was completely separated from me so that we would not step out of line,s" she said as she looked like she was about to cry. I went over to hug her and sat down next to her.

"I know you from the river. I played with a white pup when I was younger. Was that you by chance?" I asked. She looked at me, her head cocked to the side in curiosity.

"I am a white pup, and I used to play out there, so most likely," she said as a tear rolled down her face. I hugged her tightly. After I calmed her, we got ready for bed. We tried on and modeled our dresses we would wear at the dance tomorrow night. Hers was lovely; it was the color of deep water, while mine was like a flame crawling over my pale body. We crawled in bed not looking forward to the following day, but we both fell asleep quickly.

I was running in my wolf form, but I was tackled to the ground by a black, huge wolf with a white partial ring around his neck. I tried to get up, but he let out the cruel, low growl and snapped at my neck. I stopped in my tracks, but I was not done. I was going to wait till he loosened his grip to move again. He loosened his grip, but did not let me up. I struggled again, and this time, instead of him just snapping at me, he marked me. He dug his fangs into my neck, drawing blood. Once he released my neck, he bit my leg, so I that I could not run. I then was transported to another part of the woods, on the shore of the lake. As water filled my lungs, I couldn't breath. I was being drowned in the shallows of the murky lake. I looked up and saw Isaac, Luka's friend, forcing a crying Kara to hold me under.

I was being shaken awake, again. "Hannah you're screaming," Kara said concerned. I've really got to work on this screaming thing. "What were you dreaming about?" she inquired.

I debated on telling her, but since every dream involved her, I decided I should tell her the minimum about my dreams. "Kara, I'm going to tell you something you may not believe, but it's true. I have very vivid dreams. One dream predicted our meeting," I partially mumbled. She looked at me like something might have just dawned on her for the first time.

"Hannah, do you know what your mother is?" she asked dead seriously. Her eyes narrowed awaiting my answer.

"Yes, full werewolf," I said proudly.

"Now, this is just a theory, but I think your mom was part witch. You know how I said my mother fled because she was not full werewolf? She was one forth witch, and she possessed a power similar to yours. Her dreams would reveal parts of the future," she said pretty calmly given the situation.

"We better hope that's not the case, or we're in for a very bad time," I mumbled under my breath too quietly for her to make out what I was saying.

"Sorry, what was that?," she asked.

"Nothing, sorry for waking you," I said with a fake smile, turning over to sleep once more. I have not gotten a full night's sleep in a while. The second time I did not dream, and I am so thankful for that. I slept soundly for the few hours left to sleep. My alarm sounded in its obnoxious buzz, and Kara and I awoke. Though we did not do too much talking because we needed coffee before we faced the world. I put on my gym wear and awaited my prison warden in shining armor.

A knock on the door signaled it was time to leave. Now, let's try to avoid the monster today. "Hello, Kamrin," I said as I looked behind Kamrin and saw someone I did not want to see. "Luka," I said as a greeting while maintaining eye contact.
