The Date

When I woke up, Cam was already gone for the day. He had left a note to for me saying he had to go to the office, but that he'd be back in time for our date. I'm kind of sad that he's not here, but I'm excited about going out tonight. I take the supplement that the Cactus gave me and get up to start my day. It's pretty late in the morning, but Cam and I aren't going out until tonight, so I'm not too worried about it.

I start the day by hopping in the shower, I start my day. After I get out, I quickly dry off and dress in a t-shirt and yoga pants for now. Heading to the kitchen, I forage for something to eat. Coming away with a simple bowl of fruit, I sit in my little library and read a book while I eat. I'm not as distracted today, so I have an easier time focusing on this one versus when I was trying to read the other day. Though the book I chose is making me a little sad, and not because of the content. It was one of the last books that Mr. Marve gave to me before the accident.

Thinking back on it, it's hard to believe that its barely been two weeks since what happened. Everything's been moving so fast, and it blows my mind. Shaking the thoughts out of my head, I go back to reading my book and take a bite of fruit. A few hours later, I put the book down and head back up to my bedroom.

So far, Cam has only seen me either injured, or just naturally me. He's never seen me actually dressed nice. I feel kind of sorry for him. I know I'm not really much to look at, but I can use today to show him that he didn't get stuck with some slob of a woman who never puts herself together. It's not that I don't, I just haven't had an opportunity to dress up.

Going in the closet, I look and see what I've got. Looking at all my dresses, I try to decide what would be best. Nope, too short, too long, definitely not that, meh... Just when I think all hope is lost, I see it. It's a dress I actually haven't gotten to wear before because I never had a good enough reason to. I grab the hanger and head to the bathroom.

Some time later, I hear the front door open and close.I feel the pang in my chest that lets me know Cam is home. I can also feel his anxiety, though it's not as all consuming as it is when he has a nightmare. I wonder what he has on his mind.

Heading to the front of the house, I go to see what's wrong. "Hey Cam, are you okay?" He looks so tired, dark circles under his eyes.

When he looks up at me, his eyes go wide and his jaw almost touches the floor. "Oh..."

I giggle. He's so cute when he's dumbfounded. "Yeah?" I ask. "Do you like it?" The dress I'm wearing has a tight bodice with a skirt that flares out, reaching my knees. With my hair and makeup done, I actually look kind of nice.

Cam shuts his mouth but continues to stare. "Cam, are you okay?"

He nods. "Yes, I'm fine. Just a long day at the office. That and your stunning visage surprised me. You look incredible, Terra."

Cam walks over to me and gives me a tight hug. It feels nice after being alone all day, to be honest. I sink into his embrace and we stay like that for a few moments. Finally, Cam pulls away.

" Let me go get changed, my love."

I nod and he walks towards his bedroom. I can't help but wonder when he'll just move everything into my room. It'd be easier for him, but I guess he isn't ready yet. I sit on the couch and look at my phone. I really should text my mom. It's been a couple of weeks now. I'm sure she's worried. Building the courage, I sent her a text telling her I'm alright and not to worry too much. I don't want to tell her yet about any of the bonding stuff, so I hold off.

I look up and see Cam coming back into the living room. He's dressed in jeans and a nice collared shirt. He actually looks pretty yummy. I pull my mind out of the gutter and smile up at him. "You look nice."

A smile spreads across his face and he holds his hand out to me. "Ready to go?"

We arrive at one of the fanciest restaurants I've ever seen. Table clothes, live music, everyone dressed sharply. I feel out of place. I mean, I've never been in a place like this before. Plus it's loud! The sudden influx of noise makes me shrink back. The music, clattering plates, people talking, it's almost too much. I lean into Cam.

He looks down at me in concern. "Try to take deep breaths, darling. Focus on that and it will help." I nod and do as he says. Cam walks up to the hostess stand.

A perky young blonde smiles at him, ignoring me. Must be his good looks. "How may I help you, sir" She asks in a chipper voice.

The pitch of her voice makes me cringe. Cam tightens his arm around mine. Without him, the noise would definitely cause me to fall over. "We have a reservation under Demonte, for two."

The hostess glances in my direct, undisguised jealousy on her face. I just smile at her, feeling a bit smug. That's right, lady, he's mine. She looks back at Cam. "Right this way, Mr. Demonte." The woman grabs two menus from below her stand and leads us through a maze of tables.

The hostess stops at a small table in the corner of two windows. Overall, it had a very nice view. She grabs the reserves placard off of the table, then hands us our menus once we sit down. "Enjoy your meal."

Cam smiles at me, then reaches over and opens my menu for me. "Here, there's a great selection of stuff for those who don't eat meat. We can also get a bottle of Sweet Red for you. What do you think?"

I look at him confused for a moment. " What's Sweet Red?"

"Oh, sorry. It's bottled spiced blood, donated willingly by humans. I think you'll enjoy it."

I can't help but smile. He's going to such lengths to make tonight meaningful. "I'll give it a try, hun."

Cam smiles back at me. I have a feeling that tonight is going to go very well.

Cam and I enjoy a pleasant meal, talking about this and that. Once we get to desert though, Cam gets a somber look on his face. "Terra, I'd like to talk to you about something."

Uh oh, this can't be good. "Of course, go ahead. What's on your mind?"

The look on his face doesn't get any better. "Well, my love, I looked into a few things at the office today," he starts. "After talking to the head of the council a few times and going over a large amount of information, we've found a solid location on your Master." He pauses for a heartbeat. My heart sinks in my chest. I don't like where this is going. "After much discussion, we're planning a reconnaissance mission to go confirm everything. They want me to go."

I don't process what he says at first. It just can't sink in. Cam must feel my confusion. He says, "it's going to be a few weeks before everything is set in stone, of course. And I'll only be gone a few weeks at that." Cam grabs my hand across the table. "I promise, I won't leave you for long, my love."

Jeez, a few weeks? I can barely survive a day without him, how am I going to go weeks without him around? Finally, I ask, "Does it have to be you?"

Cam looks down at our entwined hands. "Unfortunately, yes. It will definitely be me, and Lawrence will accompany as well. After we figure things out some more, we're going to decide on a few more people."

I grip his hand. I can't believe he's got to leave. "How long until everything is finalized," I ask.

Cam looks up at me. "It's going to be at least three or four weeks. So we have some time. If it helps, we can go out more, perhaps get you to the point where you can even visit your family."

" That'd be nice, I guess." I rub my thumb over his knuckles.

Picking up my hand, Cam brushes his lips across the back of my hand. " How about we get the check and head home? I'm sure you've had enough excitement for one evening."

Nodding, I say " Yeah, let's do that."
