The strangest day... (part 4 - It isn't a dream...?!)

"You got the wrong person!"

I waved my hand at whoever was inside the car without even slowing down.

First of all, I had no intention of dealing with some self-absorbed buffoons, even if they were of the female variety like the speaker.

Second of all, no one I knew owned such an expensive car, so unless my parents or one of the people I hung around on the rare few occasions during college, has won a lottery and decided to come and boast – this wasn't anyone with whom I wanted to speak, to begin with.

"...wha...?! What the hell do you mean I got the wrong person?! Miss Alexis L. Smith! Stop right where you are!"

The woman who was actually most definitely calling me after all, growled angrily, stopping the car in the middle of the bus lane, and got out of the car, taking off expensive shades revealing light-brown eyes, glaring at me as if she thought I was making fun of her.

"E...eh...?"

Seeing her – and looking up at her face since she was much taller than I was – I gasped.

I...

I recognized her.

But not from any actual interactions I had in my past...

Who I was looking at was a tall, dark-skinned woman with an excellent figure and short black hair.

Even while frowning and glaring at me she was prettier than many actresses I've seen on the TV before...

...but that wasn't the important part at all...!

Where I knew that woman was – from a dream!

She was most definitely Selene!

The woman who was the wildest out of the singles group of the werewolves – she was also the very same person who wanted to kill me for reeking of vampires!

...in a dream that is...

"I... am... I... eh...?"

My brain short-circuited there and I wasn't proud of it, but how else could I react when someone I ever only saw in my dream appeared in front of me in real life – but in a way more stylish version!

"Seriously, I can't believe this..."

Selene – or whatever her actual name was – sighed, shaking her head, and put her shades on top of her head before breathed out and straightened her back.

"Miss Smith. Why is your phone off...? Do you even know how scared I was when I went to check up on you and no one answered the door and then I called and got 'the number you are trying to call is currently unavailable' message?"

She scoffed, shaking her head while she scolded me as if I was a schoolchild.

"I... I'm sorry...?"

I lowered my head and apologized while hurriedly rummaging through my purse – I took out the phone...

...only to discover that its battery was actually dead...!

What?! But It was charging when I woke up?!

Wasn't it charging through the whole day that I was sleeping through?!

And more importantly, what was Selene doing here looking for me in the first place?!

Ah! I can ask that one out loud!

"Umm... miss..."

"Oh, right, we were never officially introduced, huh."

I spoke up but Selene interrupted me, thinking that I was asking for her name – which was actually perfect because I was about to make a fool out of myself and call her with a name I knew her from a dream.

"I'm Selene Viene Donnovan. Nice to meet you, I guess."

She introduced herself with a strict expression as if she definitely didn't want to do any of that, but had to.

Wha...! Huh!

Selene?! Her name is seriously Selene?!

Am I actually a prophet?!

This is insane!

Did I dream about some numbers?!

Maybe I can use that to win a lottery or something?!

I definitely got way too excited there, but who wouldn't after something like that.

"I am the head of the HR department of the Moonsimonial Corp. and I am here to talk to you about your application."

"...eh...?"

But Selene's next words pulled me right out of my little imagination bubble.

"M-my application...? But it was rejected, right...? I never got any message or call from your company...?"

I spoke up hesitantly, feeling very much confused – especially after the very unpleasant events that happened at my now-former company.

...I say former because even without me handing a resignation there was no way I would be able to return there after everything that happened...

"..."

Selene closed her eyes and gritted her teeth in a very clear demonstration of displeasure.

"I'm sorry...!"

I blabbed out without thinking, spooked out by her.

"What...? No... No, it's definitely not your fault..."

Selene flinched and looked at me with confusion before she closed her eyes again and took a deep breath as if preparing for jumping into the abyss.

...ooooookayyyyy...

This was getting kind of awkward, and after a full minute passed and Selene still was getting ready for something I leaned to her side, wondering what will arrive first – a policeman writing Selene a ticket for the incorrect parking or the next bus which the driver would get absolutely furious about her blocking the whole lane.

"I am sorry."

As I was wondering about that, Selene lowered her head and apologized to me.

Seriously, no matter how expensive the car is, that is not how you should...

...wait...

"Huh...?!"

I gasped and my eyes almost popped out of my eye-sockets.

"I am sorry. The whole mix-up with your application is my fault."

Selene explained without raising her head.

"...HUH...?!"

No, seriously – HUH?!

"We actually need someone like you, and you were supposed to be sent a message with the time and date of your interview, though it was supposed to be just a formality - everyone in the department was working overtime to make sure that the new policy regarding some internal matters was implemented correctly so I was the one sending it since I was the one who had the last word anyway..."

Selene began explaining, but honestly, I think that her explanation was making me more and more confused.

"...It was already late, and the moon was shining right into my office and..."

She looked as if she was getting more and more embarrassed as she talked – but she continued anyway no matter how many people were joining in to stare at the two of us...

"...and... and I saved the email in drafts instead of actually sending it..."

Selene muttered embarrassed as all hell.

Well... I mean it wasn't that big of a mistake, she shouldn't kick herself down for it, even the head of HR of a successful company can make a mistake like...

…?

…!

"WAIT! Do you mean that you want to hire me?!"

I gasped and backed off from Selene in a sudden realization.

"...yes... I mean, if you are still interested."

Selene raised her head and nodded.

...ah...!

...is this still a dream?!

Oh gosh, maybe it is...!

I thought to myself and hurridly pinch my arm with all my strength

OOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!

I almost screamed out loud but somehow held it in – no, it definitely wasn't a dream...

...crap... I think I ripped apart the skin on my forearm...!

"Miss Smith? Are you alright...?"

Selene asked me looking at me strangely.

Crap! I need to act normal!

I can't mess it up!

It's this chance for a good job or retail...!

"Yeah, don't mind me – I'm just so happy!"

I answered, blinking really fast while tightly clenching my painful forearm.

"Oh, that's great then."

Selene breathed out, accepting my words with great relief – as if she was happy that I wasn't going to dump some unnecessary info on her.

Then she raised her hand and checked the time on her smartband.

"There's still a lot of time before he will be finished with the meeting... uuuugh..."

She muttered to herself and rolled her eyes.

"Say, miss Smith. Since it was my mistake, how about I buy you a bru..."

Selene stopped herself and checked the time again.

"How about I buy you lunch, and we start on a fresh page?"

She corrected herself and offered.

"...lunch you say..."

Although I never met her in person before and the only time I had seen her was in a dream and she was a werewolf that wanted to kill me, my stomach told me that I should definitely agree on the proposition.

"I would really appreciate it, actually."

I might be awkward and shy, but if there's a chance for free food – count me in!

Especially since Selene wanted to make up for her mistake – and even though it was something insignificant in the grand scheme of events, she seemed like a very prideful person.

"Great, hop in."

Selene breathed out in relief and smirked as she turned away and walked back to her car.
