Did he think of me sometimes? Did he miss me? Remember our night together?
Now the wedding was coming up fast. In the last year, I’d been sneaky enough to get out of family get-togethers, and I hadn’t been in the same room with him.
This was different.
There was no getting out of this.
On top of it all, Vassilios was coming with me. Elsie had insisted. She and Dayton adored him. My sister wanted me to dive in headfirst as she’d done with Dayton. If she only knew. But I couldn’t tell her now. So I found ways to make my life make sense, day after day.
“It’ll be a lot of fun,” I finally said, getting up. “We’ll have a blast. Now come on, let’s take abreak from this and go for a walk.”
She didn’t need much convincing. We threw on our jackets and headed out.
The book could wait. The world could wait. The pain and longing as well.
All of it would be waiting for me tonight when I laid my head on the pillow and saw Davinder’s face behind my closed eyes.
