Chapter 63

Erik waited at their table.

“How about I give you a tour of the campus?” Ted suggested when he came back.

Erik agreed and the two men began walking. After a while Ted asked, “You know what you said about my job ‘if it works for me’? Well, to be honest it doesn’t.”

Erik turned to look at him.

“The money’s great, so’s the sex…sometimes. But the longer I do this the more disillusioned I get. It’s not the kind of life I had ever pictured for myself.”

“What did you picture?” Erik asked.

Ted thought of Kenny, of how he had come so close to having what he really wanted. He thought of Erik and how another chance just may have been offered him. He gave an embarrassed chuckle, feeling foolish at hoping Erik might feel the same. “A house, a yard with a white picket fence, a dog…and someone who loves me waiting inside for me to come home. I know it sounds dorky, but I’d give up this job in the blink of an eye if I could find a guy that felt the same way.”
