“You know,” she started, “I’ve always wondered about slave life, but the slaves I’ve met at these things don’t have a life anything like yours. It’s like they become slaves for the weekend, and then go back to work the next day and are bosses and executives.”

“Some are slaves all the time but still have to go to work during the days,” another person added.

I smiled. “I know. I’m a very lucky person. My life is constant and there’s no role-playing. I don’t have to go back and forth between characters. I am what you see I am.”

“Don’t you ever wish you were a normal person?” someone asked.

“In my life, I am a normal person. I have everything I need and the only thing I have to worry about is keeping my Joō-sama happy.”

“And learning your Japanese,” Isamu added.

“That’s one of the things that makes her happy.”

The group said thank you and wished me luck. Then they walked away. Isamu and I went into the banquet room and had lunch. 22
