Ch.09

Getting closer I noticed that he was barely breathing, as I heard small bits of whiffs.

Feeling sorry for the guy I ask him if there was anything I could do to help.

The man did not respond but simply stared at me with this sorrowful look of hopelessness as he himself knows that there is nothing I or anyone can do to help him.

Not wanting to waste my time I tell him I'm sorry for what happened to him and move on.

After seeing the survivors I decided to head back to the boss and wait for it to slowly be consumed by the abyss.

"I'll be here for quite a while, it's best I find some food and water "

I walked around over the corpses of descenders and scavenge anything I can use, luckily no one paid any mind to what I was doing.

After 30 minutes of scavenging, I managed to find some dried-up rations and a few water canteens.

"All I gotta do now is wait for this thing to see what it will leave behind"

Not wanting to waste an unnecessary amount of energy I sat down next to the fallen boss and wait, leaning on the body in hopes of getting comfortable.

I sat and just waited, sadly after some time more creatures started coming towards me, or rather the corpses of the boss.

"Why are they coming towards us?"

[Their goal isn't us but rather the boss]

"Why?"

[Consuming the boss will give them strength, allowing them to get stronger fairly quickly]

"But how do they know the boss died?"

[Once the boss has been defeated it will produce a smell shortly after that attracts those who are similar or weaker than the boss]

"Will them eating the corpse affect the loot?"

[No]

"Will it speed the process up?"

[Yes]

"Alrighty then come and get some!"

Knowing the long wait will be quickly over if I just let there's beats ravage the body I can come back and collect the loot once they are done.

I quickly dash towards the forest with little issues and hid on top of the trees, allowing me to watch downward at the body of the giant being eaten and ripped apart.

As the hours passes, I notice that the monsters were becoming bigger? Some of them are even growing extra limbs while others are growing muscular.

I watch as these monsters start fighting one another for more of the boss's flesh, their hunger was endless as they continue to consume more and more of the flesh.

As the time passes and the monster number starts declining due to them killing one another, the sun shines once more. Or rather, the heating orb at the ceiling of the floor starts shining back up again. I couldn't notice before due to the distance and darkness, the last remaining descenders are now gone.

"Did they head back up without issues or did they …"

Them making it or not does matter to me, what matters right now is that loot drop.

I look back at what remains of the boss and notice a massive blood pool of what I believe is the boss and other monsters.

I can see the tiny drop that is laying within that blood pool as a purple circular object. Unfortunately, the monsters are not yet done fighting amongst themselves to further grow a bit more and so I wait.

As the last monster lost interest and scurry towards the forest, heading the opposite way from where I was, I carefully made my way down and dash towards the loot.

I look down and when I picked up the sphere I notice that it's quality was not like anything I have seen so far.

Without much hesitation, I quickly open the loot and receive a …

[ 4-Clover Ring ]

"Oh… a ring"

I let out a deep sigh with the weight of my fallen expectations, I was hoping for something more.

"It's better than nothing I guess"

I started making my way towards what I believe is the staircase up to HQ. Luckily for me there seems to be a survivor that was heading to the same destination as I notice the blood trail.

"Hopefully this individual was heading towards the stairs"

As I follow behind the wounded individual I notice that the blood trail was leaving behind less and less blood and instead of streaks they were becoming medium to large size droplets.

"I guess they patched themselves up"

As an hour passes by I noticed that I was getting closer to the edge of the floor.

"Please let there be a staircase"

I plead in desperation

As I get closer I saw more descenders passing by me which helped calm me down knowing I was indeed heading in the right direction.

As soon as I leave the forest I saw the clear stairs and just ran up them. In doing many we're giving me looks of confusion as to why someone like me was so eager to back up to the surface.

I paid them no interest as I make my way towards the workshop to sell off the drops I got.

As I step in I felt a massive wave of heat hitting me, instantly causing my body to sweat profusely. Looking around I noticed a massive table with a wide top and a female worker behind it.

Walking toward the shop's worker I noticed that she is well built with a muscular frame but not too much where I would have mistaken her for a man.

As I step in front of the table the female smiled and greeted me before asking what I need help with.

"Can I help you with anything, sir?"

"Yea I got some drops from the abyss and I was wondering if y'all buy drops"

"Yes we do sir and not only do we buy drops we also appraise, craft, and dismantle drops for you."

"What's the benefit of appraising drops?"
