Pain radiated down my neck as I turned on the leather sofa and woke to the sound of silence. My heart sank after that split second of unbearable nothingness and filled with an ache that only Valerie and Liam could sooth. I thought back to what Kayden had said the night before, and he was right to a certain degree.

Valerie had stood by me through everything, accusations from Iria, Bernie and Tyler and what they'd done to me. She hadn't jumped to the wrong conclusions then. And thinking back, I could see she hadn't the other day, either. She just wasn't in possession of all the facts to make her mind up. But did that mean she didn't trust me?
