Penelope continued painting her mom's nails and chatting about whatever she could think of to keep the conversation going. It was a bit difficult because her memories and experiences weren't the same as Iris's real daughter's would have been. 

She couldn't talk about anything from her own life. But she managed to get some replies, which was encouraging. 

Eventually Iris realized what she was making because of the stripes. They were done with a cheap child's paintbrush from the dollar store but they still looked surprisingly decent. 

A spark of something appeared in her dead eyes. "Rainbows, huh? Did I ever tell you how your dad and I met? I was admiring a set of ancient Greek armor at a museum when he suddenly started talking about Achilles and how his mortal point after bathing in the River Styx had been so vulnerable because he was wearing sandals in the myth.
