Titan's secret II

In the heated moment of their argument, a knock came from the door. They both stared at each other for a while and when the knock came again, the queen went to get it. She opened the door and to her surprise, she saw a soldier from war. What was he doing here? Was the battle over.

He bowed "Your majesty. I have a message for the king." she instinctively turned to see that there was no one else around and then took a peep at her husband before turning back to the soldier. She acquiesced, "okay hand it over. I'll give it to him. You just wait for him in his study."

He hesitated before answering, "please your Majesty, it is important he receives this." she nodded in understanding; he then passed the letter to her and left for the king's study.

She locked the door and walked back into the room. She then passed the letter to the king. "A soldier from the battlefield brought this. I'm guessing it's from the commander. He's waiting for you in your study." she spoke with anger still clear in her voice and avoided eye contact.

He stood up from the stool which was beside little Titan's bed. He reluctantly took the letter and responded lethargically. "Alright then, I should attend to him." before leaving, he looked at her and pursed his lips. He was about to persuade her into not calling the doctor but he didn't want to argue any further.

When he got to his study, he saw Gail. One of the junior soldiers of the Lynx clan standing in front of his study. Gail bowed at the sight of the king. "Your highness."

king Zhelang sighed seeing the lethargic look on the soldier's face and unlocked his study. "Come in." He called out.

The soldier walked in long strides and bowed ninety degrees to the king then stood straight.

"Sit." came the King's cold voice which caught the soldier off guard. As a soldier with a junior rank, he wasn't permitted to sit with the king. It was against the law.

"I'm fine your Majesty. That wouldn't be necessary." he politely declined.

The king didn't have time for chitchat so he just shrugged the issue aside and picked up the letter. As he read through, his expression remained the same. Then wrote on a paper.

"Give this to your commander." He said passing the letter to the soldier.

"Anything else?" he spoke in askance.

"No! That would be all your highness." He bowed and went for the door handle. The king then spoke startling him.

"The next time I ask you to sit and you don't, you'll have to go sit in jail for disobeying your king. Got that?" he instructed tilting his head to the side with his brows curved up.

The soldier nodded vehemently and shuddering. "Ye... Yes your highness." with that, he saw himself out.

The king tilted his head back, facing the ceiling as if looking for solace and solitude; but that didn't last long and the sound of a knock came from the other end of the door causing him to groan in frustration...

'At the captain of the royal guard's office, there was a tall well built, and handsome man seated with lots of papers, schedules, and maps of the palace on his table. He had a long scar across his face that made him seem scary to all who come across him. While busy with the paper works on his table, there was a knock on the door.'

Why can't I have a moment of peace.' He grumbled then adjusted his sitting posture and exasperated. "Come in."

The door pushed open and seeing that it was one of the market guards, his brows furrowed 'what could have happened at the market to warrant his hasty visit?' He wondered.

"my lord." He bowed his head slightly to the captain and continued.

"There's an outburst in the market. A little beggar boy ate master Lee's food and didn't pay. Now the crowd at the market have beaten him to a pulp."

"Take him to the dungeon. He would be locked there for some days." He would certainly not condone a theft even if it was a child.

"my lord, the boy in question is barely thirteen. He's still a minor."

"Minor or not, theft is a crime. He should be thankful I'm not planning on leaving him in the hands of those angry mob. Quick! Bring him to the dungeon. I want to see what this new begger in town looks like and I want to know where he came from and take kyle with you. At the sight of him, the mob would know whom they are dealing with"

"Yes. My lord. I'll leave now."

*** Back at the market, after been beating for while the market guards encircled Zagan protecting him from the angry mob and waiting for the captain's orders. Zagan became aware of his dangerous situation and had fear written all over his face. He had never encountered such in his entire life. Having to face it now when he just escaped death, was more frightening than the pain from all the beatings.

'The people around started discussing.'

"Looking at his face, one would think he was some saint not knowing that he was just a gluttonous wolf in white."

"But he looks quite innocent. He was probably just hungry and unaware of the rules. Besides I've never seen him in this clan."

"Don't be swirled by this boy's cunning appearance his clearly faking it."

At that, all the men gathered around him with sticks in their hands while the women gathered at another end away from the scene. They became spectators.

As the clan men drew closer, Zagan could feel his heart in his mouth even though he was protected by market guards. He was so scared, he wanted to jump back into that pit which he crawled out from.

As the mob raised their sticks and stones to throw through the guards, Zagan closed his eyes in fear but then he heard a voice from the crowd. "Lower your weapons. The captain of the royal guards has instructed that this boy be sent to the dungeon right away. And It would be my pleasure to jail the next person who discharge their weapons." this was not just a market soldier, but a palace guard. Kyle.

*** moments ago, when the market soldier went to report the incident at the market to the captain, he bumped into a palace guard Kyle who happened to be his childhood friend. They both joined the military together but got split during random selections. When he saw him at the captain's office, he asked Kyle to wait for him as his meeting with the captain would not take much time.

When he was done with the captain, he had a gloomy expression on his face which attracted Kyle's attention.

"Why do you have dark clouds on your face?" He asked sarcastically.

The market soldier sighed and narrated everything to Kyle and Kyle agreed to follow him as they both rode on their horses to the market. "... He was grateful to kyle as he knew that the citizens were quite disrespectful towards market soldiers and feared that the poor boy might receive serious beatings if they do not listen to him."

"Never mind Friend. I will go with you and help you with the boy."

As the approached the market they heard the yelling of a man. "What are you all waiting for? pick up your sticks. Don't be swirled by this boy's cunning appearance his clearly faking it." at the sound of that, they rode their horses faster.

Once they got there, they found the frightened boy encircled by market guards, trying their best to keep out the well-built men carrying sticks and stones ready to devour their prey. Kyle immediately boomed "Lower your weapons."

The little boy had his eyes closed in fright but when he opened his eyes and stared at the soldier who just literarily saved his life, he almost fainted. He thought he would die moments ago but now he was sure that death had indeed come.
