The dark-colored gas seems to function similar to those viruses that I have encountered in other worlds which turns living beings into a state of 'between the borders of life and death' or mostly known as the zombified state.

Of course, it doesn't mean it isn't present in the Cultivation Universe since some demonic sects use corpses of cultivators to fight for themselves in their stead.

But then again, the dark-colored gas could be corpse qi now that I think about it. Corpse qi is gray but the dark-colored gas may be a variation of the corpse qi.

It doesn't matter to me even if the dark-colored gas is fallen chaos qi or a variation of corpse qi since those two can still be converted into chaos qi. Everything that causes chaos can be converted into chaos qi so whether it is death qi or destruction qi, all energies that cause chaos can be converted into chaos qi.
