Maria wasn't allowed to leave the academy because Darwin feared her personality might cause an irreparable incident. A noble hater like her might actually freeze someone if confronted arrogantly.

Unless Maria had someone to watch over her, she was only allowed to visit his house where she could spend time with his wife and read from his private book collection. 

In other words, Maria could barely sleep because this was a day she could visit the city while being assigned to protect the Lionheart family if they find themselves in danger.

*Sigh* "You guys took your time. Come, let's go." Maria turned around and headed to the outer main entrance.

Vincent shook his head and said, "I hoped she would forget, but here she is, rushing to wait for our carriage."
