Mia woke up feeling awful. Once again, she had dreamt about Leo. An erotic dream that got her all worked up. Whenever she woke up, her mood turned sour because she was back to reality where he wasn't with her. They hadn't spoken since she returned from the birthday party yesterday. She checked her phone for his call or message but saw none.
With a sigh, she stood up from bed, wearing a short and a tank top before going to the kitchen.
When she got there, she saw James making breakfast.
"Good morning." She greeted and took a seat.
He looked at her and smiled before turning to continue what he was doing.
"Good morning. I won't serve you breakfast unless you freshen up first."
"Don't be mean." She frowned at him.
"Good morning to you two." Mira said as she joined them while yawning.
She kissed Mia's cheek and sat down across from her.
"What's with you girls and coming inside the kitchen without freshening up in the morning? I don't want your morning breaths contaminating everywhere."
With a mischievous look on Mira's eyes, she stood up and walked towards James slowly.
Mia watched with amusement as she appeared in front of James and blew her breath at his face.
"Does it smell bad?"
"Eww! Gross Mira. Stay away from me!" He stepped backwards and used a hand to cover his nose while she continued to approach him until they were running around the kitchen like kids.
"Let him be Mira. He's preparing breakfast. Don't distract him." Mia said while laughing.
Eventually, both girls went to brush their teeth and returned to have breakfast with James.
"Did you see the news? They are talking about what you wore yesterday. A lot of people are surprised to know you are Leo's girlfriend." Mira said.
"I expected it. It's what I get for dating a crazy person. They would stop talking about me soon." She shrugged.
"My mum told me she met you there." James said.
"Yes. I saw your parents. I also met Mrs. Bill." Mia turned to face Mira who frowned.
"Your mother wanted me to tell you to pick her calls. She is planning to throw you a birthday party and wants to know what you'll like—"
"Bullshit! Suddenly they care?" She frowned. "I'm sure they simply want to do that for their sake so people can think they are still happily married. What a joke!" She snorted.
"Why can't they just announce their divorce already? It's been over a year now." James asked.
"Both Mr Bill and Mrs. Bill have a lot to lose if that happens. Many people invested in their individual businesses because of the other person. If the investors realize they are over, do you know what would happen?" Mia asked.
James nodded in understanding. "That's... something."
"So I was thinking that maybe we should celebrate my birthday and Rachel's admission together. What do you think?" Mira asked, changing the topic.
"Doesn't sound like a bad idea. But how is she coping living with the boys?" Mia asked.
"They do not like each other's presence. You should know Rachel by now." James chipped in.
"They don't like each other's presence? humph!" Mira rolled her eyes.
"What is that supposed to— I'll get it." James was interrupted when the doorbell rang and he stood up.
"I hope they are not going to invite us to any tenant gathering this time." He complained as he walked away.
Mira scooted closer to Mia and whispered,
"Noah has a crush on Rachel. I can swear on it."
"Really?" Mia asked in surprise.
Mira nodded. "If I wasn't an expert, Noah could have fooled me with his act. No one knows about it so keep it to yourself before James goes berserk."
Mia nodded. "What about you? When are we meeting your boyfriend?"
Mira's face lit up. "Oh! Michael is—"
James entered the kitchen, with a strange look on his face as his eyes fell on Mia.
"What... is it?" Mia asked.
James cocked his head towards the living room, hinting for them to follow him.
The two girls looked at each other and stood up.
When they got to the living room, they saw a lady wearing one of the building's staff uniforms.
She was holding a basket that had a baby inside.
As the girls wondered what was going on, the lady looked at the baby before looking up at Mia.
"Mia Lucas?"
Mia nodded.
"Someone left her outside for you."
