Mirror Mirror On The Cupboard

~•Amara•~

"He was right you know."

A familiar voice rang in my ears which annoyed me to hell and back. The voice wasn't familiar to me because it belonged to someone I knew, but rather it was my own.

And no, I wasn't losing my mind or being delusional. It was just a simple spell which allowed my subconscious mind to have a voice of its own and be more vocal about certain things and matters. Because otherwise, I refuse to follow the little trail of breadcrumbs which it always left behind for me.

As to how? It was really simple and wasn't much of a hassle, something like 'the magic mirror' from the story of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.

The only difference was that it was my own reflection which conversed with me, and there was no damsel in distress who was stuck in a glass castle waiting to be rescued by a charming prince, her knight in a shining armor. It only had me, the evil and cruel witch.

"How long are you going to take to accept it?"

My own voice made its way into my ears as I let out an annoyed groan in utter frustration. I rolled on my back so that I was facing the ceiling which looked more like bleached instead of white. They could have chosen a better shade of white. Why did they have to go for such a… blinding color.

"Stop staring at the ceiling and answer me, will you?"

I heard the same nagging voice once again which only added to my frustration.

"You do realize that you are more annoying this way!" I exclaimed in utter exasperation.

"Because I am always right." I heard the reply, and without even looking at the mirror which was fixed on one of the panels of the wooden cupboard I could tell that she had a smug expression gracing her face.

"If only I had a way to kill you." I jolted up from the comforts of my bed and sprinted towards the source of the voice which wasn't too far from the wooden frame of the bed.

I stared back at my own reflection which was staring back at me. I was glad that my annoying roommate wasn't here and I could let myself be me even if it was for a little while.

"I know that I am prettier than you in more than one way, but that doesn't mean you have to bore holes into your own reflection." The poison laced words entered my ears, hitting every single button of my patience I had in me.

Raising my right hand, I pressed the palm flat against the mirror. "It's time for you to go." I uttered out as the corners of my lips curled up in a sinister smile which was reflected into the mirror. Instead, what welcomed my eyes was the white headed lady giving me a 'I don't care' look as she stood with a straight back with her hands folded across her chest.

The careless behaviour of my own subconscious only irked me more. I opened my mouth slightly and was about to cast a smell to undo the magic when she finally spoke up.

"Now you know how everyone else feels like talking to you'"

The words were enough for me to clamp my mouth as I took a step back.

"Will you please hear me now?" she spoke up while letting her arms loose, allowing them to rest by her side.

"After coming back to the dorms, the first thing you did was to give your subconscious mind a voice. When was the last you used the spell? If I remember it correctly it was somewhat three to four decades ago, that too because your beloved old man disappeared for days without giving you a heads up." She took a brief pause and heaved out a sigh.

"Your biggest problem is that you always know what is going on, but just try to turn a blind eye to the facts. And when you want to have a recap of all the things you know already, you summon yours truly here." She pointed her index finger towards her face as she continued to stare back at me.

"You do know that the man has some effects on you. Then what is wrong in accepting the fact? You have always wanted to lead a normal life, mingle with people. Making friends was never on your list, but you have one now, and it won't actually hurt you to make some more." She added.

"Yeah! But are you forgetting that he is an angel? A damn angel. As for me, I don't think that I have to remind you who I am." I scoffed.

"No, I am not. But you are clearly forgetting that he doesn't know that. Unless he knows, there is no harm in carrying on with what you two have." I saw her raising an eyebrow at me as a mischievous smirk hugged her lips.

"What do you mean by that? We are just friends. And if you don't know, he already has someone else. I heard him talking to a friend of his the other day when we had a P.E." I threw a threatening gaze at my own reflection.

"Are we eavesdropping now?" The smirk on her face only deepened with these words.

"It wasn't intentional. You can't ask me to turn my ears off now, can you?" I questioned her as I rolled my eyes.

"I ain't asking you to do anything. Just give the man a chance. Moreover, give yourself a chance at a normal life. You have always wanted it, and now the chance has been served to you on a golden platter. All you need to do it is grab it." She shrugged her shoulders.

After hearing her part, I exhaled out a long, tired breath and nodded my head at her words. "As long he doesn't find out. No harm, no foul, right?"

I saw her bobbing her head up and down. I was about to continue when I heard a light knock on the door which made me snap my head to my left.

How do you think things will go on from here?

And who could be at the door?
