"How did we get you a Rolls Royce for your birthday?" Mrs. Wang spoke with a laugh. "Well, the company did exceptionally well this year and we all got huge bonuses. But, I guess most of the credit goes to Mr. Huo."
"Zenghai?" Xia softly muttered, and Huo Zenghai shrugged, digging his hands in his pockets and averting his glasses covered eyes. "Well, you did help me a lot with the proposal, and as Mrs. Wang said, we all got huge bonuses. And well, your reputation helped a lot." he said, trying to sound dismissive.
Though Si Xia said nothing, his eyes shone. But it wouldn't be very becoming of the CEO to cry in front of his employees, so he composed himself and called out. "As a thank you and to show you all how much I appreciate this, lunch is on me." he spoke, his voice ringing clearly throughout the whole lobby.
A loud cheer erupted among the employees as Si Xia turned to Xing Chuan and said to him, "Take care of this."
Assistant Chuan nodded as Xia was approached by his employees. They wanted him to give the car a try. "During lunch break." he said, "Right now, we all need to go back to work."
A few miles away, in a bungalow uptown.
Yu Chen walked in with her hands full of big, plastic bags. Just as she did, Chen glimpsed the inside of the house before she was knocked over by a ball of big black fur.
"Ow!!! You've gotten big Oreo!! Your hugs almost hurt now!" Yu Chen said, massaging her bum as she slowly got up from the floor where she had fallen, leaving the bags on the ground and picking Oreo in her arms.
"Oof! You're getting heavy." Chen said as she went to take a round of the house, wondering how she could decorate it.
A few hours later . . . .
Guests had begun to arrive at Si Xia's bungalow, and it was left to Xi Hua to welcome them.
Yu Chen had mysteriously disappeared somewhere a few minutes before people had started arriving and Huo Zenghai was with Si Xia, making sure he arrived at the correct moment.
Unknown to Hua, Chen sat in a corner of the house, observing everything and making sure people were enjoying, and continuously coordinating with Zenghai. She had just gone away to change her clothes and get ready before people started coming.
'How much longer you can stall Xia?' Chen texted Zenghai.
'Oh, as long as you want. He usually works later than this everyday, and I can drag him for drinks if you guys are not ready by the time he's done.' Zenghai replied with a thumbs up emoji.
"Hello little boy, why are you sitting here all alone?" The voice of an old lady made Chen look up from her phone. She recognised the woman standing before her, wearing an elderly loving smile, as the old care-taker of Xia's orphanage. She had taken car of Si Xia as he grew up, and he was still very attached to her.
And apparently she was too. As they had found out when they went to invite her for Xia's birthday party. Chen had also found out that Si Xia regularly visited the orphanage and helped out, apart from sending huge amounts of money every month.
