"Nothing." Yu Chen mumbled. Her anger was disappating now and she remembered her purpose for coming here.
Sam shook his head as Chen sat down, "That won't do. Look at how thin you've become!! I'll order something."
And before Chen could stop him, Sam had picked up the phone and ordered shrimp dumplings.
Yu Chen scoffed as he put down the receiver, "Shrimp dumplings."
Sam scratched his head, "Of course I remember your favourite food. You used to whine so much that you didn't get them back in London."
Chen smiled and said nothing as she took off her overcoat. She was still wearing it and it was quite warm in Sam's apartment.
Sam stared open mouthed as Chen put her coat on the sofa. He had of course seen Chen many times before, but she liked to wear jeans and T-shirt, rarely ever wearing dresses, let alone the kind of beautiful dress she was wearing now.
"You..... it's...well...you look..." Sam stuttered and shut his mouth when Yu Chen turned her face to catch him staring.
"What?" Chen asked, looking down at herself.
Sam took this opportunity to survey her up and down. Sam's eyes travelled over Chen's bare jade like arms to her exquisite neck. He gulped as his gaze lingered over Chen's supple cheeks and heart shaped lips took Sam's breath away. The last thing that Sam noticed after gazing at Chen's perfect eyelashes was that she was not wearing the butterfly clips, Si Xia's sign of love.
"What are you doing Sam?" Chen's voice brought Sam back to reality.
He realised that he had been leaning forward towards Chen, a dazed look on his face.
Sam hurriedly composed himself and muttered, "Must be a trick of the light. I thought there was something on your cheek."
He continued as Chen stroked her cheek, "Anyway, what did you want to talk about."
Yu Chen sat upright. Her eyes bore deep into Sam's hazel eyes. Sam was overwhelmed by the intensity of Chen's gaze and averted his eyes.
How many times had he wished that Yu Chen would stare into his eyes, but now that she did, Sam wasn't able to meet her gaze. It was because his conscience was guilty.
"I wanted to see a photograph." Chen's voice rung out clearly. Sam looked up into Chen's eyes for a second before he looked away again, "What photograph? Which pic do you want to see? Did you lose our photographs? Something happen to your drive?..."
Sam ranted on, averting Chen's gaze. He had a habit of babbling whenever he was trying to hide something and nervous.
"I want to see that photograph. The one that reporter took of us sitting on the roof of my dorm." Yu Chen's words cut short Sam's ramble.
Sam took a deep breath and calmed himself before meeting Chen's gaze, "What are you talking about Chen? Which photo? When was this?"
Yu Chen sighed, "You're gonna make me say it huh? I want to see the photograph you showed to Xia just a few days ago. The day when cook code's competition was there."
Sam sat thunderstruck for a few minutes and Yu Chen let her words sink in. She wanted to see that photograph? Had that Si Xia told her? How much had he told her? Why was Chen here right now? How much did she know and what did she want?
