Chapter 50. Production house
"Really? I can take a audition."
Ren said as he glanced at the smiling face of Director Zhao.
"Yeah, the CEO tell us to get a audition first but it's pretty much confirmed at this time."
Ren was really happy to hear that. He was a little uneasy thinking about whether the CEO will approve the project or not but it looks there would be no problem.
"Well, it's good for you but we should contact the production house quickly or we can lose the role."
Jiang Wan who was sitting on the side said as he tapped his arm.
"Well, they are still casting for the drama, so it will took some time but I am more worried about whether Ren will be able to grab the lead role or not."
"You are thinking that I will be rejected because I am not that famous, right."
Ren said as he slightly frowned. He knew about this problem very well. Although this was a cable drama, the production house would still want a more famous lead.
In his previous life, the actor who had played the lead was not famous but he was still a celebrity with more fans than Ren.
He had also acted as a supporting lead for many movies and dramas, a advantage Ren does not have currently.
"But it also depends on your acting and other things. Don't worry, you just have to show your acting. Leave the other things to us."
Director Zhao said as he tried to appease Ren and Jiang Wan also said.
"Yeah, by the way, you said you met with the writer of this drama, right."
"Yeah, I met her once. Why?"
"It's not much but what was her impression of you? Did she liked you?"
Ren finally understood why Jiang Wan was asking about his relationship with Zhu Yi.
If he had a good relationship with her, then she can help him get the role. Although she was a new writer without much power, she still has some authority.
If she thought that Ren could play the role better, then the production would at least give more importance to Ren.
"Well, I think we left on good terms. She even said that she will talk to the production house about me."
"That's good then, in a drama, maintaining a good relationship with the writer is a must."
"Yeah, but the problem here is the production house."
"Production house?"
Ren titled his head and asked when he heard that.
"Yeah, you don't know but this project is a joint production produced by Arc Production. Their last project was a failure, so they are giving their all for this project."
"Yeah, it's make it or break it for them. I even heard that there CEO was taking anxiety pills these days."
"Well, yeah, I had met him once. He's the type to worry about everything but he's a nice person and it's ability to work is also good."
"Yeah but he would be frustrated and worried because of this project."
"Yeah, he should be."
* * *
"So, Lu Ke rejected the project."
The CEO of Arc production muttered in a slow and tired voice filled with frustration.
His hair was white indicating his age and veins were bulging from his neck. He was one the verge of going insane.
"Yeah, he said he was not interested."
"That bastard. Just because we can't increase his payment."
"Well, what can we do? Most of the major stars has rejected the project."
Sitting before him wear the other producers and staff of Arc production. They all had worried and frustrated expressions on their faces.
"What about the talk with Zhang Yu and Tang Xu?"
"Those two were not interested in this project. They said that they do not have dates."
"They are just excuses. They are obviously looking down on us."
"Yeah."
"Stop it. Cursing would not do us any good."
CEO Wang said as he slammed the table to stop the commotion.
"So, what do we do now, CEO?"
A young producer asked.
"Well, I think we should look for some rookie celebrities instead of experienced ones. We have better chance to cast them."
"But this way, our star power would decrease."
"How about we cast a popular female actress?"
"You know that our drama is more focused on the male lead and in this situation, if we caste a popular female actress and the viewers didn't liked her role, then it may prove fatal."
"Yeah, anyway it seems like Chen Mei has liked the role and is willing to play the role of a female lead."
"Then, we can't do anything yet."
All the people in the room sighed as they started thinking about the solution to this situation.
"Well, we have to hurriedly cast someone. The higher ups were making a noise."
"Yeah, there are also dramas releasing at the same time as us, we have to do anything or we will horribly lost from the start."
"Okay, let's just cast a rookie actor for the lead. I don't think we can convince a popular actor."
CEO Wang said as he sighed. They had no choice but to cast a rookie now that most of the actors had rejected the role.
He just wished that the actor would be good in his role.
"So, how about we cast the actor Writer Zhu was talking about?"
A staff member said and everyone in the room glanced at him when they heard that.
"Do you mean Xin Ren? The actor who played the villain in «Secret spy»."
"Well, he's a good actor but will he be able to do the role."
"Writer Zhu was praising him, we can at least do a audition."
"But I think that he can play the villain, I doubt his ability to play the lead."
"Yeah, although his face is handsome, I don't know if he can act as the good guy."
Many types of comments were provided by the producers and the staff members. Some were in favour of casting Ren but some were thinking that it was not a good idea.
In the end, CEO Wang intervened between them and said.
"Before discussing that we should at least conduct a audition. We should give his company a call first."
"Actually, CEO, there was a call this morning from Top star entertainment, they said that they wanted to do a audition for the lead role and the actor was Xin Ren."
"Really! Was he interested in the role?"
CEO Wang slightly raised his voice as he said that and the producer who had earlier spoken said.
"Yeah, he was interested in it. What do we do then, CEO?"
"Of course, we should conduct a audition. Even if he do not qualify for the lead, he can at least act as the second male lead."
"Okay, CEO. I will immediately contact them."
The producer said as he left the room. This way, Ren was finally selected for the audition but now, it all depended on his acting whether he could play the role or not.
