A new world, a new culture, a new life

Days passed in a flash. Yet, despite several months passing, Drodosis was never allowed outside of the castle.

Because of that, Drodosis enjoyed the library. In every world, every intelligent society, libraries are the places that hold the very core of what make humans human: knowledge. Knowledge is power, source of conflicts but also source of progress.

Moreover, Drodosis had one trick to make the whole thing enjoyable.

[Beep! Fauna and Flora, written by Sage Epicuresien, in 333 MC (Moonlight calendar), has been successfully scanned.]

'Create a summary of the most important knowledge from this book.'

Alpha, his biochip, really was his most important companion in the past few months. Not to mention the fact that he could appease his loneliness with it, he also didn't have to fake a behaviour with it. For example, he needed to play the silly baby scene twice a day in front of his parents if he didn't want them to be sick worried.

Drodosis couldn't remember how many times he fell on purpose, to make it look like he was genuine and immature child. The only thing that was not conventional, and which he didn't do, was shit on himself, since it was really beyond his boundaries. But even this small 'exception' was extremely worrying in the eyes of his parents.

The library was truly a place of serenity. Very few people would come into the library, since there was some sort of aura in there. The library was full of rare grimoires, but most of them contained irrelevant, outdated or vague knowledge, not to mention fictions that were completely taken from legends.

Naturally, the main reason why few people came into the library is because most of people can't read. Schools do not exist in this world. There are only academies for nobles. Hence, commoners only get the opportunity to learn how to read from their parents, or strangers willing to teach for a meagre amount of money. Since it doesn't provide food, why would the natives bother paying to learn how to read?

Moreover, in front of swordsmen and cavalry soldiers, scholars looked like cowards.

[Beep! The fauna and flora of Alphen is vast and unconventional…The process of natural selection and genetic drift caused beasts' adapting to their habitats which are often so extreme that…]

And so began, a short yet condensed amount of information that Drodosis forced himself to learn. After all, he knew that it was easier to learn when you are a child, not to mention that he was really bored.

After this lecture session that lasted for more than four hours straight, Drodosis decided to head out to his room. When he came out of the library, he was facing a giant barbarian, face to face.

"Young master Drodosis! What are you doing here? It is not a place for children!", the barbarian said.

The barbarian was the surname of Knight Eric Hawfea. The man was one of the three knights residing in the castle. And besides his father, Knight Eric was probably the strongest. The thick muscles and his oversized body were proof that Drodosis wasn't on Earth anymore.

[Beep! Name: Eric Hawfea. Strength – 3.5 | Agility – 2.3 | Physique – 3.2. Status: Healthy. Perks: Beginner swordsmanship…]

Of course, compared to his father, Eric was quite inferior.

[Beep! Name: Roland Thornfield. Strength – 4.5 | Agility – 3.1 | Physique – 4.0. Status: Healthy. Perks: Intermediate swordsmanship, …]

"I was looking for mother!", Drodosis once again played the shaming act of a helpless and cute boy.

(…)

Drodosis had only been conversing, listening and memorizing books or a few hours Yet, he was already collapsing from exhaustion. When he returned to his room, his bed appeared to be the solution to his fatigue.

The next day, he repeated the same routine of fooling around, before returning to the library. However, this time, he found a very beautiful scroll. It seemed almost magical, since the date was 110 MC, which was about 300 years ago.

[Beep! Breathing technique scroll successfully scanned! Effects of the breathing technique: Enhancing vitality and strength on a cellular and macro scale. Additional effects: improves brain's development slightly.]

Drodosis felt like he had touched something he should have never touched. Putting it back quickly, he then ran back to his room, with sweat and tears of excitement on his life.

Finally, another way to pass time had appeared in front of him!

Hours passed, and after trial and error, he finally managed to complete a cycle of the breathing technique.

[Beep! Breathing Technique's cycle completed. Deviation from the original skill: 48%. Effects: +0.003 strength, physique and agility, slight improvement on the brain organ (reaction speed improved by 1%). Secondary effect: Fatigue].

This secondary effect was uncalled for, and Drodosis fell on the ground, collapsing.

When he woke up, he found himself covered in some sort of blackish liquid. He felt like he had been cleaned up from impurities, and he thanked his luck that no one had come into his room in the short duration he slept.

Cleaning up his mess, Drodosis returned to his daily activities.

By now, he had adapted to this new world, this new culture, and more importantly, to this new life.
