When Jayden got downstairs mom and Damian were already eating their breakfast. His plate was already waiting for him and he also sat down to eat. Breakfast was the only time each day they always sat down together. They usually took the time to explain what they would be doing today or anything noteworthy that happened the day before.
"I have double shifts today so i won't be able to make dinner today. Can you prepare something today Lyssa?" mom asked.
"I have time today so that's no problem. Should I save you a plate?"She replied.
"Please do!" Mom said. " Now I won't be home till late tonight so I expect all you to behave properly.
"Tell me what you all plan on doing today" she requested.
"After school, I'm going straight to work in the store. Don't have anything planned after that but if something changes I'll let you know" Damian responds first.
"I'll be home editing my videos with Elena. She will be eating here if that's not a problem"Lyssa said. Mom nodded indicating that it wouldn't be an issue.
"And you Jayden?" She asked. Jayden did not answer immediately but looked at Lyssa first. "Do you need my help today?"He asked. Today he actually planned to play at Simon's home after school but hearing Elena was coming over coming home looked like a better option. He liked being around Elena. She had a cute smile and she made him feel funny inside his stomach.
"No need!" Lyssa said. For her, it was obvious why Jayden wanted to stay with them and she rather not have him bother them. "Then I'm going to Simon after school," Jayden said.
" Be at home at 7 o'clock! "Mom said. She would check on him and if he was even a minute late there would be hell to pay. After they lost dad she needs to know where everyone is at all time's. This is the only way she can concentrate on work. They all confirmed their planning for the day and went out for the day.
Since his fathers passing Jayden was even less noticeable at school. He would never raise his hands to ask or answer questions and only ever spoke to Simon. Gone where the times when he held the class interest because of his karting. The teacher would try and rope him in during class but with little results. Jayden wasn't a perfect student. He would always do what was asked of him but would never take the initiative. After his father's death this only got worse. He would do the bare minimum requested of him and not put in any extra energy.
Another uneventful day went past at school and Simon and Jayden were taking the short walk to Simons home. It had been a while since Jayden had been over so Simons mother was happy to see him. "You should come over more often. I can see Simon misses hanging out with you" she said. "Don't start mom! We're going upstairs to play" Simon cuts his mother off. It has been a long time since Jayden came over indeed and Simon doesn't want his mom to say anything which may make Jayden want to leave again.
When they got into Simons room he booted up the computer. "So you really want to start karting again?" He asked. "Won't it be too expensive to pay? especially now?" Simon could not be blamed for thinking this way. Even before the death of Jayden's father their finances had always been an issue. With him no longer being there it would be even harder. "I'm not planning on letting mom pay! My uncle came back from England 2 years ago and we haven't seen him after the funeral. Dad used to see that he had his own business there. Maybe he can help me out if I ask him nicely" Jayden replied. He did not tell Simon that the reason they did not have any contact with his uncle was that his mom did not trust him. "His stories are too good to be true and he never helped your father out when he needed him! It was always the other way around" His mom always said.
Jayden would not try to contact his uncle if he had other options to get back into racing but everyone was working so hard to keep the family functioning normally that it seemed selfish off him if he requested this from them. He figured he could at least try his chances with his uncle. If this did not work he would have to think of another plan. What he did know was that he could not give up on racing.
"Let's ask him then! If you don't ask you'll never know what the answer might be! How are we going to contact him?" Simon asked. "I don't have his number but we can contact him through facebook right? Just search for Anthony Saunders!" Jayden said.
Finding his uncle was easy but neither Simon nor Jayden had a facebook account. This was no problem for them though and within minutes their page was ready. "Now what will you say?" Simon asked. "Move over! ill type" Jayden said taking over the computer.
He thought a bit and started typing.
"Hi, uncle Anthony, Jayden here. Could you buy me a kart and help me go to the racing session this season?"
"Your gonna send That?! "Simon said looking at Jayden with a doubtful look. "Move over!"He said.
He pushed Jayden aside and deleted his message. His message was a lot more sensible.
"Dear Uncle Anthony, this is your nephew Jayden. We have not spoken to each other in a while but I was wondering if you could help me. I used to go karting twice a week with dad. I even applied for my racing license and passed the practical exam. Dad and I used to do this together and it is something only us 2 shared. Now that he's gone I haven't been karting again. Is it possible for you to help me start karting again? I know it's not cheap but I would be very grateful for anything you can help me with. Could you visit us at home so we can discuss it with mom if there is a possibility?"
"That's how you ask for something!" Simon said. "Yeah, yours a bit better than mine" Jayden replies.
"You think he will contact us?" Simon asked.
"No clue" Jayden replied. "It's a total shot in the dark"
