Remember

The sun was shining brightly, full of color. Birds sang with joy. A small breeze brushed over me, how warm it felt. Spring was always my favorite season. Flowers blossomed and bloomed, the temperature was warm.

I sat down below an oak tree listening to the sound of birds chirping, children playing around while my two friends laid on the fresh, green grass staring up in the sky. Mark was sleeping while Michael spoke.

Mark had fuzzy blond hair that resembled the sun, emerald green eyes that attracted girls. In my opinion, I found Mark quite cute. On the other hand, Michael had brunette curly hair that reminded me of dark chocolate, it was unique. He had hazel brown eyes when stared into, you'll instantly get lost in thought. Michael was attractive, but a little too flirty.

"Stephanie is so annoying," Michael complained, "She acts like she owns the place."

I responded with "Mhm." Not paying full attention while Mark completely ignored his rant.

"Are you guys even listening?" Michael confronted with annoyance, "Mhm," I replied even though I wasn't actually listening. My awareness was focused on someone else. Robin.

In the distance, a group of boys had just gotten out of class. They were out for a break, I figured, like us. However, Robin was with Lawrence; my childhood best friend. I waved at Lawrence which he returned. I locked eyes with Robin.

What felt like an eternity was a few seconds. He was the one who looked away first. The weird feeling that flooded back to me, how once Robin and I talked till dawn but now it seems like we're trying to avoid each other.

This hurts, but funny.

Lawrence walked over to us and greeted us. Robin followed alongside Lawrence. I smiled at them and looked away, avoiding eye contact with Robin.

"How was class?" Lawrence asked Michael, who responds with annoyance "it was great, but Stephanie is at it again. So annoying."

Feeling a bit uncomfortable I got up and left, leaving them behind to talk. I walked from my resting spot to my locker to retrieve some textbooks for the next class, I was about to go back to class when someone called my name.

"Wow, you would." I turned around in surprise. That line. Brings me joy and laughter but also sorrow, the pain of familiarity. I turned around and saw him, Robin, standing there breathless.

This time I couldn't avoid his eyes, those beautiful and adorable eyes filled with color. However, it brought me torture and affliction.

Memories that I tried to forget came back to me instantly. I faked a weak smile and tried to leave. I was in an awkward position.

"Oh hey, um what's up?" I spattered out awkwardly. "Really? What's up, after so long that's your first words?" He was disappointed, "Well it can't be helped, you're always like this." His smile was gentle and perfect.

"If there's nothing else, I'm going to go back to class, it's starting soon." With this said I walked away, then I started to run. Without any acknowledgment, tears started to roll down to my rosy cheeks.
