Hong Yue was a university student in Shanghai. He had good grades and his favourite hobby was reading books. He read all kinds of books: historical, fantasy, fiction, wuxia and xianxia. He especially enjoyed xianxia novels and made sure to read all the top rated ones. All in all he was content with his life, until while crossing the road on his way home he was hit by a truck.
"What the hell! Is this the legendary truck-kun?!" Was all Hong Yue could scream in his head before the darkness swallowed him and he died.
The next thing he knew, he woke up in an ancient looking bedroom. Hong Yue was confused as he looked around. 'Am I not dead? What is going on? Where am I? Ehhh!!! Why am I a child?!' Hong Yue could not help but wonder in his mind before noticing that his body was that of a child, if he was not mistaken, that of a 10-11 year old boy.
Suddenly, a flood of memories surged into Hong Yue's mind. Those were the memories of an 11 year old boy named Hong Yue Xian, who had fallen ill for the past couple months and finally today passed away, when at that moment Hong Yue's soul took over.
Yes, as much as Hong Yue could not believe it, it seemed like he was reborn in another world. Furthermore, through the memories of that 11 year old, Hong Yue could find words such as Glory City, Demon Spiritualist, Lord Ye Mo, the Snow Wind Family, the Divine Family and the Sacred Family. It was not hard to piece together these words and conclude that he was now in the world of TDG. Hong Yue, or now he was Hong Yue Xian, took some time to remember everything he knew about this world and could not help but feel conflicted.
On one hand he had always wanted to become a demon spiritualist and making a harem, there were many gorgeous girls in TDG he dreamed of having. He will not be like Nie Li who was besotted with Ye Ziyun and totally ignored them.
On the other hand, he was distraught about not seeing his family and friends, his world again. Not to mention that if Hong Yue Xian wished to enjoy his life to the fullest in this one, together with his harem, then he would need to work hard to get stronger, undermine the dangers the city was facing, destroy the sacred family and the dark guild while staying clear of Nie Li.
Hong Yue Xian thought long and hard about it, and as tempting as it would be to just kill Nie Li and avoid future troubles, there was one problem, that is the Sage Emperor. Now you might ask what did he have to do with anything, but the thing was that if Hong Yue Xian got stronger, which he planned to do as soon as possible, then he, as a transmigrator, would surely be sensed by the Sage Emperor during one of his divinations.
Of course, he might not sense him but the risk was too high. Therefore, Hong Yue Xian decided to let Nie Li be and use him as a distraction. While the Sage Emperor was busy dealing with Nie Li, Hong Yue Xian would keep getting stronger, who knows, he might even profit from their mutual battle. Like the saying goes: 'mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of an oriole behind.' The only thing that made him depressed was a lack of a cheat. He expected to have one as a transmigrator, but he could not seem to find it or sense it. He could only sigh at his misfortune.
After sorting all his thoughts and forming his plans for the future, Hong Yue Xian got off the bed and walked to a mirror. Even though his appearance was that of a child, he was still quite handsome, with short red hair just above his shoulders and purple, almost amethyst eyes, giving him a mystic and devilish feel. His height was around 130 cm and he had a lean but slightly malnourished body.
Hong Yue Xian was very satisfied with his looks and leisurely got dressed, before walking out of the room. His appearance startled the servants who immediately notified the patriarch and the rest of the family. Hong Yue Xian was afterwards brought to the main hall where the whole family had gathered.
Hong Yue Tian, who was the patriarch of the Hong Yue Noble Family and Hong Yue Xian's father, was seated in the main seat in the middle with a dozen elders sitting on both sides of him. All of them were looking at Hong Yue Xian in shock and relief. They could not believe that a child who seemed to be on his death bed suddenly got cured overnight and was even standing in front of them as if he was never sick.
What followed next was the questioning by the elders and the patriarch, after which they were overjoyed by the miracle recovery of Hong Yue Xian and decided to hold a feast to celebrate. Eventually, Hong Yue Xian managed to excuse himself and return to his room.
Once there he searched his room until he found a soul stone. He poured his soul force inside and watched it transform into a crimson wolf, with its jaws open as if it was trying to devour something.
Hong Yue Xian was shocked by his soul form and attributes. The crimson wolf looked very special and powerful but he just did not know any suitable cultivation techniques, nor which demon spirits would be best, other than a wolf. After a while Hong Yue Xian decided to leave those issues for the future, meanwhile, he looked at his soul force and realised he had an indigo soul force of 99, the highest grade of soul force and one step away from a 1 star Bronze rank Demon Spiritualist. Shocked once again, Hong Yue Xian sifted through his memory and found that his predecessor only had a green soul force of 63, which meant that his talent somehow upgraded after his transmigration. Perhaps, it was the merging of two souls, which raised his talent and strengthened the soul force.
Hong Yue Xian was glad that he got at least some benefits after transmigration. Since he was so close, he decided to meditate and break through to Bronze rank. Hong Yue Xian spent half an hour before he felt something shatter inside of him and his soul force expand, he knew it was a sign that he became a Demon Spiritualist. Sadly, he could not merge with a demon spirit until he reached Silver rank, still, he was not discouraged. On the contrary, he was looking forward to the days to come.
The next morning Hong Yue Xian went to find his father. He found him in his courtyard drinking tea and discussing business with several elders. The topic seemed to be the upcoming yearly auction hosted by the Hong Yue Family, making Hong Yue Xian's mind race. If he remembered correctly, then the nightmare demon pot was supposed to be sold to Nie Li during his family's yearly auction. Hong Yue Xian was determined to get it, even though it might completely change the flow of history, that treasure was absolutely worth it.
While Hong Yue Xian was having an internal debate, his father concluded the small meeting and called for his son to come closer.
"Morning father, I hope you are well. I have something important to discuss with you." Said Hong Yue Xian as he approached his father and sat nearby, pouring both of them tea.
"Morning Xian'er, I feel great this morning, now that you have recovered, I could finally sleep relieved. Now what is it you want to talk about?" Said Hong Yue Tian as he looked at his son gently.
"Father, I wish to start my own business and I need a lot of starting capital. Here is the list of what I need. I wanted to borrow it from you, but don't worry I promise to pay it back twofold in three years."
Hong Yue Tian took the list, bewildered and amused by this sudden request, but once he saw the amount written, he could not help but break into cold sweat. At first, he thought his son was kidding and just wanted to trick some money from him, but the scale of his request was beyond a mere joke. Hong Yue Tian pondered deeply before asking his son to explain more.
"Father, I know it's a huge sum but I am serious when I say I want to start a business. I can't always rely on the family. I want to make something of myself, if I join the family's enterprises I will still be seen as your son, that is not doing business but playing merchant. Which is why I wish to borrow money to start my own enterprise, but I promise to return the money doubled within three years, if not then I will join the family's business and work off my debt."
Hong Yue Tian was slightly shocked by his son's argument. He thought about it and he could see the benefits of giving Hong Yue Xian the money. Though it was a substantial sum but Hong Yue Family was very affluent and as the patriarch, he had the authority to lend that amount. 'Even if the enterprise fails and Xian'er loses the money, it will be a good lesson for him. This experience will surely make him more prudent and hard working once he joins the family's business." Thought Hong Yue Tian as he assessed his son.
"Very well Xian'er, we have a deal. I will send you the money and several servants later today. I hope you will use them wisely. You can always find me if you need advice, alright?"
Hong Yue Xian was delighted that his father agreed, with this his plans could start. He hurriedly thanked his father, before taking his leave. Hong Yue Tian did not disappoint and by nightfall all the money and servants were brought to Hong Yue Xian's courtyard.
The very next day Hong Yue Xian left the family mansion and went on a shopping spree. First, he bought a few storehouses and storage rings. Then he bought all of the available Purple Mist Grass in the market. He planned to stockpile it until the time when Nie Li raised its price, before selling it. Of course, he took precautions not to alert people, leaving enough for everyone's use.
Second, he bought a lot of land on the outskirts of Glory City. Glory City had enough harvest and a lot of demon beast meat, so many less fertile farmlands were left unused and vacant. Hong Yue Xian spent half of his funds to buy those lands. His plan was to sow and cultivate Purple Mist Grass on them, in preparation for Nie Li. For that he specifically hired farmers from poor families and had them work the fields.
After all was done, Hong Yue Xian had only a quarter of his starting funds left, which he planned to spend on next year's harvest, thus making him poor again. However, once Nie Li sent his letter to the Alchemist Association, Hong Yue Xian would go from poor to rich over night.
