Chapter 5 : The Beginning of the End

To be honest, Kenji and Hansuke were scared shitless. What were they perfect for? Why does Yagura want them? What does He want them to do?

Before anyone could inquire, Yagura turned to the shark Anbu and said "Lets go Commander." He had a light smile. Probably content with the result of his unexpected visit.

Kenji didn't expect any less. The Anbu Commander of the Mist? No wonder even Yagura treated him accordingly. At times like these, he was thankful Aya never allowed him to use the sharingan. Not that he could at all though. Aya was no Uchiha. She had more knowledge of the Uchiha than the typical shinobi, but she could never teach the sharingan simply because she didn't have one. Aya didn't want to teach or tell Kenji something wrong so she allowed Kenji to experiment on his own time.

With his stubbornness to figure everything out, she assumed he would exceed a breakthrough just by sheer effort alone, and he did. Kenji just couldn't show it for some reason. He expected it's why glaring haunts the back of his head on the street but he still wasn't certain.

The two boys were exhausted and received medical attention immediately after. Yagura himself escorted them to the hospital. Mostly par for the course. Bruises, scratches, and both had matching cuts on the right forearm. Probably received during the skirmish of kunai.

Yagura dismissed himself soon after the boys were admitted. While nurses patched them the two didn't say a word or even look at each other. Finally, the hospital employees cleared out, leaving Kenji and Hansuke to their thoughts. After a few seconds of awkwardness, Hansuke glanced at Kenji.

"S..So where did you get the Ninja wire?" He asked still feeling the sting of defeat.

Kenji smiled and bragged "My mom gave it to me a few months ago, so I've been practicing different ways to use it."

Kenji rolled up his sleeve to reveal a circular mechanism spooled with thin, clear wire.

Hansuke widened his eyes, "Woooowwww." Kenji could see his eyes glowing with admiration. "That's so cool!"

The boys started talking about their fight and complementing each other, giving pointers on what they could improve on, and what their guardians had taught them. After an hour, which seemed like ten minutes, a doctor emerged and released them to the wild. The duo stood at the doors of the hospital, smiling, content with how the day turned out. Yagura was clear when he dismissed them from the rest of the school day. Whatever he thought of them as, he didn't want to push them too hard. Yet.

"Which way are you?" Hansuke asked Kenji.

"Left."

"Ok I'm going right." Hansuke smiled. "I guess I'll see you at the academy tomorrow."

Kenji looked towards Hansuke. "Ok see you!"

Both boys took off in opposite directions, smiling ear to ear.

It took Kenji approximately ten minutes to return home. Even in a constant jog. As he returned to his front door, the exhaustion of the day set in. His adrenaline subsided and he felt the tug of his bed calling him. He burst through the door and yelled "Mom!"

Aya was Kenji's room picking up things when she heard his scream. Why did he come home so early?. Her heart sank. Not today. Why? It was his first day at the academy. She just desired a normal childhood for him despite his drive to be a ninja. She asked him on day why he had these strong feelings and he replied "Because shinobi are cool!" She almost facepalmed.

Aya quickly ran down the hall and slightly relieved her tension upon Kenji's happy face but proceeded with caution. What really sent her off were the bandages on her son's arm and the swelling purple shade of his face. She wondered if the other Mist inhabitants did something to him.

Kenji couldn't decide how to start his tale. All kinds of words bubbled at the edge of his tongue until he blurted out "I made a friend today!" He squinted his face from happiness.

Aya's first response was to kneel and check Kenji's face thoroughly. After her exam she smiled and said "That's great sweetie, but what else happened today?" She gently rubbed his purple check as he winced.

Aya plopped down in her chair and placed kenji on her knee with an arm locked around his torso. She couldn't deny he was getting too big for this. Kenji let out every detail of his scary but eventful day. Aya was livid when she learned the Mizukage, who she held the utmost respect for, forced her boy into a fake death match with another student. Kenji was able to seal her rage when he explained Yagura's 'perfect' compliment given to him and his new friend. Kenji went step by step through his fight, exaggerating the actions with the yell of a Bang! or Boom! Aya laughed. She was worried sick for the boy she had grown to love, but happy that a certain other boy could learn to be friends with Kenji, unlike the other citizens who wouldn't give him a chance.

In the Mizukage office...

Yagura sat with elbows propped on his desk. His hands were webbed together and pressed against his mouth. He contemplated his decision. The Anbu Commander stood in front of him and was suprised with his superior's decision.

The shark face asked "Are you sure Lord Mizukage?"

After a few seconds, Yagura darkly replied, "Yes, I'll leave it to you."
