369. The Start of an Invasion Toward The Goguryeo

Li Feng ignored his challenge, as he was still astounded that a man who was much smaller and skinner than him could still stand up after receiving his attack, and Aching who was ignored became angry and after letting out a loud warcry ran toward Li Feng who was on the top of his horse to attack him.

Li Feng woke up from his daze hearing the loud war cry from Aching and used his spear to party the attack from Aching, he did an upward swing where Aching sword was deflected and flew into the air due to the difference in prowess.

Aching was in shock due to the force that he received from Li Feng's spear, which the force effect caused his hand to momentarily loosen his grip on his sword, causing it to fly upward as Li Feng's spear swung upward.

Seeing that Aching was frozen in his place, Li Feng used the handle of his spear to hit Aching in the side of his head where it swung from the left and smashed Aching right on the right side of his head.

The blow was very big causing Aching to immediately pass out from the blow, and his men seeing that Aching was knocked down entered a state of panic, and some immediately surrounded Aching who was unconscious to protect him.

Seeing this Li Feng accompanied by several of his men tried to get near Aching who was unconscious, trying to capture them but unfortunately, the Tono Separatist flocked around Aching to block them.

Aching who was unconscious then brought by his men to the rear of their formation, and this caused a vacuum of leadership for the separatists as there were no high ranking Tono separatists that could replace Aching.

Without anyone to lead them and conduct the Tono Separatist Army, soon the already bad situation for them became much worse, as they were doing uncoordinated assaults and defenses.

Li Feng and Ling Cao easily massacred the Tono Separatists and with their reinforcement hadn't arrived yet, the numbers of the Tono Separatists were dwindling at a fast rate.

Left without any choices, rather than their entire army being annihilated, several of the Tono Separatists who were trusted by Aching finally decided for the Tono Separatists to retreat.

As for whether Aching agrees to this move or not, they will face the consequences together, for now, the survivability of the Tono Separatist Army is the priority.

The order of retreat soon spread across the ranks of the Tono Separatists, and all of the soldiers began to retreat in an uncoordinated retreat, which looked more like commoners who were fleeing for their lives.

The retreating Tono Separatists became an easy target for Li Feng who led the cavalries under him to mow them down even further, and there was no resistance whatsoever from the Tono Separatists.

Yang Hong and Yan Jun who stood on the top of the wall alongside Ling Cao heaved a sigh of relief seeing the retreating Tono Separatist, and while everyone was looking at Li Feng with his cavalries decimating the fleeing Tono Separatist, something happened.

Taipei's Eastern side was the open sea where their port was located, and Gan Ning led the navy under him to shoot their Hwacha toward the Tono Separatists, assisting Li Feng and his cavalry.

As the Hwacha doesn't decide on friends or foes that would be hit by its arrows, Li Feng leads his cavalry unit toward the west flank and now down on the Tino separatist on this side, where the Hwacha's doesn't have any range.

The assistance from Gan Ning's navy allowed Taipei's Army to inflict more damage on the Tono Separatists, and since Li Feng failed to capture Aching, both Yang Hong and Yan Jun felt that they needed to create a strategy for Aching's return with the horde of Tono Tribesmen.

Gan Ning's Navy and Li Feng's Cavalry kept fighting until the Tono Separatists all retreated entering the Jungles, where they finally stopped as there were no ranges for the Hwacha, and mobility was reduced for the cavalries.

As there were no more traces of the Tono Separatists, Ling Cao was commanded by Yang Hong to lead the industries to clean up the battlefield and burn all the dead bodies as a sign of respect for them.

Ling Cao proceeded to do so, where he was assisted by Li Feng and his cavalry unit. Around an hour passed by and Ling Cao was informed that there were around 5,000 bodies that would be burned.

The number was very large, so Ling Cao ordered his men to create a large funeral pyre where they could burn 10 to 20 bodies at the same time and a great around 30 of this funeral pyre.

This needed large amounts of wood, so Li Feng and his men would cut down trees for the ended woods, and bring them to the battlefield as they could go much faster with them having their horses to bring the heavy woods.

The rebellion by the Tono Separatists had been squashed for now by Taipei's Army and Gan Ning's Navy, and now they were in the process of cleaning up the battlefield from the corpses of the Tono separatists.

Far to the north of Taipei's location, across the sea toward the border between the Goguryeos and the Gongsun Clan domain, Zhang Liao and Gongsun Gong had managed to subdue the domain that was retaken by the Goguryeos before back to Lie Fan's control.

Right now they are stationed in a town that was built by the Goguryeo called Wunu, which was located at the foot of a mountain where they have a natural defense as the rear of the town was protected.

Now at the Governor's Castle, Zhang Liao alongside Gao Shun and Gongsun Gong was having a meeting to decide their next move.

The truth is Zhang Liao and Gao Shun's assignment from Lie Fan has been finished as they have supported Gongsun Gong in reclaiming the list of conquered land from the Goguryeos.

Now when Zhang Liao and Gao Shun wanted to return back to the port town in Gongsun Clan's domain where Jiang Qin's navy was waiting, they received a letter from the Oriole that was given to them by Lie Fan.

Inside the content was Lie Fan's commendation to Zhang Liao and Gao Shun for doing the task he gave splendidly, and after discussing with his high ranking advisors he decided that the two of them to stay a little longer, and help Gongsun Gong expand his domain.

This task comes as a surprise for the three of them, as it means Lie Fan wanted them to invade the Goguryeos, who thanks to them were in a weak state.

Lie Fan doesn't indicate the size of land they should conquer, and so this becomes a point of their discussion in the main hall.

Zhang Liao: "Gao Shun and Master Gongsun Gong, how big of the size of land we should conquer from the Goguryeos? I think we should expand very big because I'm afraid that the Gongsun Clan would be spread too thin."

Gongsun Gong: "In truth, I agree with General Zhang Liao's word, the Gongsun Clan's forces already spread too thin, and now My Lord wanted us to expand, I think he left the decision on how big of an area we should conquer to us."

Gao Shun: "I think so too, My Lord is very prudent and doesn't make any move if the risk outweighs the gain, and since he doesn't know fully the current situation, he left the decision to us, especially Master Gongsun Gong."

Zhang Liao: "Alright then since the two of you said so, how big of an area we should conquer? I think 75 kilometers is big enough what do the two of you think? Since in this radius, there would be around 1 big town, 8 small towns, and numerous villages."

Gongsun Gong: "I agree with General Zhang Liao's suggestion, it was within the capacity of the Gongsun Clan right now and this could improve the economy of our domain to develop another army."

Since Gongsun Gong said so, the next step of their plan was to formulate a strategy for their invasion of the Goguryeo since right now they were entering some mountainous area.

Where the mobility of the Cavalry under Zhang Liao would be limited, and that limitation would reduce the combat power of the entire army massively.

They spent around 3 days before finally formulating an offensive strategy, where the cavalries would be in the rear of the army where they would be responsible for taking down villages, and they would use the infantries and archers combined to take down the towns.

After the strategy was created, they began the invasion of the Goguryeos as the army had begun its preparation when they formulated the strategy.

Even with the strategy that they had prepared, the mountainous area proved to be difficult for them, especially since the Goguryeos had used guerilla tactics against them.

For the first several days since the invasion started, Zhang Liao and the Gongsun Clan's Army respectively have taken several amounts of casualties due to the guerrilla tactics used by the Goguryeos, where it targeted their supply wagons routes.

This has severely impacted their expected progress, whereby the first week they would have taken down one small town under the Goguryeo's control, but they had failed in doing so which caused some setbacks.

Gao Shun seeing this decided to lead his formation breaker unit personally to squash the guerrillas of the Goguryeos because his unit was trained in all kinds of land terrains and had the biggest combat power amongst the infantries.

Gao Shun leading the formation breaker unit proved to help Zhang Liao and Gongsun Clan's Army massively, as the guerrillas were finally pushed back and without their presence, Zhang Liao and Gongsun Clan's Army finally managed to siege the first small town.

The Goguryeos on the other hand panic as they are invaded once again, the main general of the Goguryeos army has a headache as all of his tactics are thwarted continuously causing numerous casualties to his army.

Now with his guerrilla tactics being pushed back by Gao Shun, he was thinking of other tactics when suddenly he was interrupted by a messenger who came from the capital of the Goguryeos Gungnae, where the messenger gave him a letter that was signed by his king Sansang, where when he opened the letter he was surprised by the order he received.
