319. Lie Fan Meets Gongsun Gong

After seeing that their opposition was expelled, people who shared the same idea as the advisor and Gongsun Gong supported the motion of surrendering and pledging their allegiance to Lie Fan, and receiving his council support Gongsun Gong took out the letter he had drafted beforehand and gave it to a courier to be sent to Lie Fan, which contains intention for parley and discussing the terms of surrender.

The courier takes the letter respectfully from Gongsuj Gong and immediately leaves the hall after receiving Gongsun Gong's permission, seeing the back of the courier leaving the hall Gongsun Gong hoped that he wasn't too late to save the Gongsun Clan Army.

Leaving the hall and then Liaodong, the Courier rode on his horse ride tirelessly toward the town, only resting when his body truly needed to rest, eat, or drink and when his horse was tired and couldn't go on, other than that he continued to ride.

When he reached his destination, he saw a shocking scene where a bloody siege battle was ongoing. The Northern Wall of the town has many marks of blood, and bodies can be seen below the wall and even hanging on the wall.

Such carnage was not a scenery you would find easily even in a war torn era, so it was normal for the courier to be surprised by the scene he saw.

After calming himself down, the courier hurriedly rode toward the command area of Gongsun Du's expeditionary army, at first he was obstructed from metering the encampment but after knowing that he was part of them he was allowed in.

Fortunate for him, all of Gongsun Du's Expeditionary army generals were in the command area at this point in time, so when he gave the letters and announced that it was an order from Gongsun Gong, one of the generals approached and took the letter from his hand.

This general then read out the letter out loud so that the others could hear, and at first, it was normal then slowly it began to change toward a direction that none of them ever thought.

Gongsun Du was out of power and now Gongsun Going his second son replaced him as the head of the Gongsun Clan, and he ordered them to parley with Lie Fan and announce their surrender then told them of Gongsun Gong's intention to declare his allegiance to Lie Fan to avoid further bloodshed.

When the last word of the letter was read, the command area was immediately thrown into chaos as they didn't expect the sudden uprising of Gongsun Gong to replace Gongsun Du, and now Gongsun Going wanted to surrender and declare his allegiance to Lie Fan.

Some of the generals don't support Gongsun Gong due to his position as the second in line and infuriated by his cowardness in his decision to surrender to Lie Fan and to pledge his allegiance to Lie Fan.

While the other group of generals doesn't care who leads the Gongsun Clan, they only care about their livelihood and now Gongsun Gong has found a way out for them, so they immediately supported this motion which caused a rift inside of Gongsun Du's Expeditionary army.

Two sides were arguing with each other with none of them wanted to back down, this caused their army to be leaderless for a while and their attack became uncoordinated which became an easy picking for Lie Fan and his army to take down.

The arguing didn't stop until suddenly they heard a rumble from the south of their position, and a soldier suddenly barged in and reported to them that there was a big army heading toward their direction, and from their banner, they weren't allies.

Hearing this the command area immediately quieted down, and one of the generals who supported the idea of surrender immediately advocated for them to do so, because their number was dwindling down at a fast rate after several days of battle against Lie Fan.

From 200,000 men under them right now they have around 135,000 men and now the arrival of Lie Fan's reinforcement will become their death if they don't surrender to Lie Fan right now before they reach them.

These words immediately woke up the generals who had the same idea as him, and they instantly gave their support for him and the generals from their opposing side began to change sides and join them in support of the statement as they wanted to live.

With the power balance shifted heavily on the surrender side, the stay loyal side was subdued and put into prison by the surrender side, and after doing so they immediately ordered a retreat, and a white flag was raised across the camp.

When Gongsun Du's soldiers heard the sound of retreat, they immediately retreated from the wall and this caused Lie Fan and his army to be confused while his advisors already knew why this happened, as Jia Xu had just received the news from the Oriole at Liaodong.

Lie Fan and Lu Lingqi alongside Lie Fan's bodyguard seeing the sudden retreat were surprised, as the sun was still shining bright and the fighting was going on fiercely so there was no reason for them to retreat.

Lie Fan then approached the edge of the wall and saw the white flag being raised all across Gongsun Du's encampment, which took him by surprise as he didn't expect them to suddenly surrender, then he also saw the approaching army on the north.

While he was taken by surprise, Lu Lingqi joined him and was also surprised by the scene she saw. At this time Jia Xu, Xun You, and Chen Gong left the command area and approached Lie Fan to inform him of what happened.

Jia Xu: "My Lord, you must be surprised as to why Gongsun Du's army suddenly retreated and surrendered to us."

Lie Fan nods his head in understanding after knowing the ins and outs of the matter, he never expected that something that should have happened in the original timeline where Gongsun Gong rose to power replacing his father and older brother would happen in his timeline.

In the original timeline, he rose to power after his older brother's death and his son was too young to succeed Gongsun Kang, so Gongsun Gong became the defacto leader before Gongsun Kang's son came of age.

While they were talking, a representative from Gongsun Gong's army now approached the wall and declared their surrender and told Lie Fan of Gongsun Gon's intention to meet him in Liaodong, to discuss the terms of his surrender and allegiance to Lie Fan.

Lie Fan turned toward Jia Xu, Xun You, and Chen Gong asking their opinion on this matter, and he received the green light from the three of them to proceed with the meeting with Gongsun Gong at Liaodong.

He then replied to the representative accepting their surrender and agreed to meet with Gongsun Du at Liaodong, where they would go there in two days after letting their army rest first.

So with Lie Fan's word, two days passed by and Zhang Liao, Taishi Ci, Gao Shun, and Bu Zhi have been informed of what happened and their next course of action is now to go toward Liaodong.

Sad that there was no action to do but happy that Lie Fan's plan advanced by weeks or even months of progress, and with final checks of each army preparation, Lie Fan led them to Liaodong leaving behind the town.

It was around a week or two before they finally reached Liaodong, in there Gongsun Gong and his detainees were already waiting in front of Liaodong Southern Gate, receiving Lie Fan in a grand manner befitting of his status.

Lie Fan who finally met with Gongsun Gong in person greeted him in a friendly manner accompanied by his bodyguards and advisors, something that surprised Gongsun Gong and his retainers as they didn't expect Lie Fan will greet them with such a demeanor.

After exchanging several greetings, Gongsun Gong personally escorted Lie Fan and his party toward Liaodong Governor's main hall, where there were delicacies already prepared to welcome Lie Fan and his retainers.

After assigning everyone to their seat, Gongsun Gong seat beside Lie Fan who sat on the main seat, and before he could say a toast to respect and welcome Lie Fan, he was cut off by Lie Fan who spoke first.

Lie Fan: "Master Gongsun Gong, there's no need for pleasantries anymore. Let's talk about some serious topics before entering our main topic, about your brother Gongsun Kang and your father Gongsun Du what will you do to the two of them now that you are in power."

Gongsun Gong: "Dont worry Lord Lie Fan, the two of them will be imprisoned inside their estate and will never come out of there except if there was an order from you, while I usurped their power I'm not cruel enough to kill my own kinsmen."

Lie Fan: "I see while I was disappointed by this because they can be a threat to your rule, I can't say that I don't understand your position. Since you wanted them to live, then your men can retrieve Gongsun Kang from my army after our meeting."

Gongsun Gong: "Thank You Lord LiebFan for your generosity, I will repay them in the future by several folds! Especially with riches coming from-"

Before Gongsun Gong could finish his word, from outside of the main hall a commotion could be heard caused by Gongsun Du who had become conscious, after receiving news about what happened while he was passed out from his wife, he was consumed by anger and not caring about his wife protest he heads toward the Governor's main hall to teach his unfilled son a lesson, and also to meet Lie Fan so he could finally see this famed person with his own eyes.
