285. Liu Bei arrives at Xiangyang

Lastly for the Xuanwu Army, there will be Lu Jun, Lu Bao, Lu Qian, and Fang Yue. After Lie Fan finishes telling the list of appointments, all of the Head Generals and advisors stood up and cupped their hands toward Lie Fan, who in return laughed and told them to sit down and continue the banquet, while in Xiapi there's a good atmosphere it's not the same for Liu Bei who flee Qing Province heading toward Xinye.

After leading his entire army and their household out of Beihai, Liu Bei led his army in a very tiring march toward Xinye which was Liu Biao's closest town to Beihai, and after a month of march, they stopped at a village near Shouchun.

Knowing that it was under Lie Fan's Control, Liu Bei ordered his army to not do anything bad or they would be punished according to the Military law, and he also warned his generals, especially Zhang Fei who had a temper problem especially when he drinks.

Ju Shou and Wang Xiu then were ordered by Liu Bei to head toward the village and ask around, especially about the whereabouts of Lie Fan's Army that according to their information stationed at Shouchun.

So Ju Shou and Wang Xiu accompanied by 10 soldiers go to the village and make acquaintances with the people of the village, and after receiving a positive response they began to ask about the whereabouts of the army at Shouchun.

After asking here and there for a while, Ju Shou and Wang Xiu found out that the villagers saw that the Army stationed there all left Shouchun and seen headed North, which Ju Shou and Wang Xiu deducted heading toward Xiapi.

They were relieved hearing this information because they knew even though the Army was much smaller than Liu Bei's Army which consisted of 150,000 men, the morale and experience of Lie Fan's Army were much higher than Liu Bei's.

After buying some cattle and goats, they headed back toward the Army camp and reported their findings to Liu Bei in the command tent, when Zhang Fei heard that Shouchun was without an army he asked Liu Bei why don't attack it since it was undefended.

Before Liu Bei could even reply to Zhang Fei's outrageous words, Ju Shou reprimanded Zhang Fei saying to him that they didn't have the time and they already made Cao Cao their sworn enemies, if they included Lie Fan on the list then it was their end.

Zhang Fei being reprimanded by Ju Shou immediately becomes angry, but before he can do anything that could harm or embarrass Ju Shou, Liu Bei stops Zhang Fei in time and also reprimands him, saying that what Ju Shou said is true and that they should follow what Ju Shou said.

Zhang Fei being reprimanded by Liu Bei could only pout and say that this was a great chance for them to take Shouchun, Wang Xiu on the side said in polite words that the prize is not worth the fight they will go through, especially if this only make Cao Cao and Lie Fan attack them together.

Zhang Feibbecome silent after hearing what Wahg Xiu said, Liu Bei seeing his third brother finally stopped turned toward Ju Shou, and told him that after today's rest, they would head toward Xinye and then to Xiangyang after resting there, he was afraid that his soldiers could sleep well knowing that they are in enemy territory.

After Liu Bei finished his word, everyone took a rest for the day to continue their march tomorrow, Liu Bei returned to his tent where his wife Lady Gan was there waiting for him and together they slept.

On the next day, they continued their march toward Xinye, and after spending 1 month and 2 weeks, when they finally arrived at Xinye where at first it alarmed Liu Biao's men who were stationed at Xinye.

Liu Qi Liu Biao's Eldest son was put by Liu Biao as Xinye's Governor under Cai Mao's recommendations to cause a rift between Liu Qi and his younger brother Liu Cong, who had been chosen by the Cai Clan to succeed Liu Biao in the future since Lady Cai has been matchmaking Liu Cong with her niece.

Liu Biao felt that it was a good idea for his eldest son to train as his future successor, so he agreed with Cai Mao's suggestion and assigned Liu Pan his nephew as Liu Qi's General alongside Fu Xun as his advisor.

So at Xinye Liu Qi was alarmed after receiving the information that more than 100,000 men were approaching Xinye, hearing that it was Cao Cao's attack, he called for his cousin Liu Pan and his advisor Fu Xun to discuss countermeasures.

Liu Biao stationed 30,000 men at Xinye for the first line of defense, so Liu Pan and Fu Xun advised Liu Qi to raise the army and stand guard on the wall of Xinye while messengers for reinforcement were displaced to Xiangyang.

But when Liu Qi saw the banner that was raised by the oncoming army he told Fu Xun to stop the messenger as they didn't need reinforcement, Fu Xun asked why he thought like that to which Liu Qi replied that the army who came was Liu Bei.

Liu Qi admired Liu Bei after hearing about his fame and the things he had done for the people of Qing Province, so he alongside Liu Pan and Fu Xun waited for Liu Bei in the front of the gate, even though Fu Xun had objected to Liu Qi for deciding so.

When Liu Bei and his army finally arrived in front of Xinye, they were surprised by the welcome sight they received, due to this Liu Bei, Ju Shou, and Wang Xiu accompanied by Guan Yu and Zhang Fei headed toward Liu Qi, Liu Pan, and Fu Xun.

With this Liu Bei and Liu Qi meeting was advanced several years earlier than the original timeline, Liu Qi welcomed Liu Bei ecstatically which Liu Bei responded with kindness, and soon the two of them called each other Uncle and Nephew intimately.

Liu Qi asked Liu Bei for the reason he and his army were there, and so Liu Bei explained what happened in a summary to Liu Qi, Liu Pan, and Fu Xun who were shocked after hearing the summary.

Liu Qi was touched by Liu Bei's kindness and virtue, so he welcomed Liu Bei into Xinye ignoring Fu Xun's subtle warning, which Ju Shou and Wang Xiu noticed but decided to not inform Liu Bei for now.

After staying outside for around 2 months and a half, Liu Bei and his closest retainers alongside his family and theirs finally stayed in the comfort of a bedroom, and they were also welcomed with a feast under Liu Qi's request.

Unbeknownst to Liu Qi, Liu Bei, and Liu Bei's retainer Fu Xun sent a secret message to Xiangyang, informing them of Liu Bei's arrival and indicating a possibility that Liu Bei would also for shelter to Liu Biao.

After writing this message, Fu Xun signed who the message was intended for and it was CM after he gave this to his trusted aide and told him to send this to the person intended which his aide immediately knew who it was intended.

The day passed by with ease for Liu Bei and his army since they finally arrived in a safe territory, the next day after a feast and a long rest for Liu Bei, he asks told Liu Qi that he needed to go to Xiangyang to meet his father Liu Biao and ask for his permission to stay in Jing Province.

Liu Qi who heard this was delighted that Liu Bei would stay in Jing Province, so he told Liu Bei that he would go alongside him to help his case with his father, not realizing that this soured his already worsened relationship with his father.

Well in his defense doesn't know that his relationship with Liu Biao has worsened due to Cai Mao and Lady Cai speaking ill of him in front of Liu Biao, especially with him now not in Xiangyang and can't dispell the ill words that Cai Mao and Lady Cai feed to Liu Biao.

So after a short preparation, Liu Bei and Liu Qi leave Xinye alongside Ju Shou, Wang Xiu, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Liu Pan, Fu Xun, and some soldiers head toward Xiangyang.

Liu Bei decided to leave his army behind to create a much calmer situation as he was sure that an army of 150,000 men standing outside Xiangyang would not create a good impression on Liu Biao.

Ju Shou and Wang Xiu agree with Liu Bei's statement, so they leave for Xiangaynag without the Army, and after 2 weeks they finally arrived at Xiangyang, and to their surprise, there was someone already waiting for them outside the gate.

There were two people waiting for them outside the gate, and when Liu Qi saw them he immediately called their names which were Cai Mao and Kuai Yue, two of Liu Biao's most important retainers with Cai Mao his head general, and Kuai Yue his main advisor.

Liu Qi: "Uncle Cai! Master Kuai Yue! Why do the two of you stand here?"

Kuai Yue: "First Young Master, The two of us were here due to My Lord's order and welcome Lord Liu Bei when he arrived at Xiangyang."

Liu Qi: "How can you know that Uncle Liu Bei was heading to Xiangyang? I haven't got the time to send a messenger to inform My Father of Uncle Liu Bei's arrival in Xinye and his intention."

Cai Mao: "First Young Master doesn't need to know how My Lord knows about this, you should have known that you need to inform My Lord about something important like this, I'm sure that Master Fu Xun should have told you about this many times!"

Liu Bei: "General Cai I'm sorry it's all my fault, Nephew Liu Qi didn't have the time to inform Lord Liu Biao due to my sudden arrival, it's all my fault so you can blame me doesn't need to blame Nephew Liu Qi."

Kuai Yue: "General Cai please behave yourself, no matter what First Young Master ie Our Lord's eldest son and we are outside now, please don't disgrace Our Lord prestige and reputation."

Cai Mao who heard what Kuai Yue said just snort, and turned his head to the side. Kuai Yue greeted Lord Liu Bei with a smile and welcomed him to Xiangyang informing him that Liu Biao is waiting for him inside, Liu Bei smiled humbly to Kuai Yue and thanked Kuai Yue and Cai Mao for welcoming him, after some small exchange between them, Kuai Yue and Cai Mao escorted Liu Bei and his group toward Xiangyang Governor's Castle.
