Fourty-Eight

"Well look who's awake." An older woman with wizened white hair and sharp eyes was leaned over me when I awoke. I cringed into the bed as she suddenly pulled up, and she tsk'ed at me.

"You frightened the entire castle you know. That brat came in running while carrying you who looked DEAD, all through the castle to bring to me. Terrible terrible rumors, and when I heard the truth... Honestly, hanging those men won't be enough to satisfy me. Torture the lot if you ask me, make an example." I examined the woman carefully before she gave a short laugh.

"You rest girly. You rest. Your wounds are healed so just rest." The woman flew across the room and out of sight, and I stared for a moment before shrugging and going back to sleep. No point in being conscious right now anyways. Plus I'm really tired, although I can't tell if it's physical or mental~

"Now I've told you no visitors. That applies to you too, your highness." Her voice was sarcastic when she addressed the prince's title and I heard him huff angrily.

"Just one peak please! I wanna make sure she's ok! I just need one look!" He threw off all shame and begged. I wanted to laugh so badly but I knew if I did then I would have to handle him.

"Beg all yer' like. I wouldn't even let the King in. You most definitely will not see her." The woman abruptly closed the Infirmary door, presumably on his face. I like this woman more and more.

The next day I came before I knew it and the kind Infirmary lady allowed me to leave the magic Infirmary. My mom was in charge or the medicinal infirmary for illnesses and poisonings so there were different Infirmaries for the two. After I left I made my way to my room, not because of tiredness, but because I wanted to be alone and at peace. I didn't really want to face an inquistion on my state, and I also didn't want to meet with concern, or worse remorse. Adding to that I didn't want to be scolded by anyone either. I knew my mom probably wants to scold me, but she hadn't had the opportunity because of the wizardress in the magic Infirmary. Just another reason I have grown fond of her despite barely speaking to her.
