Act 8: Deadly Rescue [II]

Day: 1

Time: 5:30 P.M.

Location: Kirishima High School - Gymnasium

Time until Nighttime: 30 minutes left

Kyosei used his foot to land it on the concrete and slowed his descent, allowing him to freely enter the window again without any loud sound.

The rest felt nervous about what Kyosei had just done. After all, he didn't wear any harness to support himself in case he fell just like what he was doing earlier when he ascended. Using only his weapon to descend on the rope, is only something they have seen in movies but not in reality. And just now, someone actually replicated it. But it is understandable considering that they have limited resources and things to make things smooth for the rescue process to happen greatly.

"No time to waste, who is next?"

Miyuki who was with Nejima shook her head. "I think you should go ahead, for now, Nejima. I will stay here to call the others. Nanami and the others are already informed and should be coming with us soon."

Nejima silently nodded and Kyosei quickly tossed the harness on him which he quickly put on. In just a few seconds, he managed to put it in his body and he was ready to go with Kyosei now.

"Alright. Miyuki, make sure the others come inside one by one. We can't afford to attract the attention of everyone that we are escaping this place."

Miyuki nodded and remained on the lookout as the two readies to ascend. Holding the rope ascender tight with Nejima holding Kyosei tight, the two ascended the rope. Although Nejima felt nervous at first, the experience was over in a flash so he didn't feel the fear he thought he would be feeling. They arrived at their destination very quickly.

"Alright, two down."

"Kyosei, be careful man! What you are doing, tempting death so much?! That's too dangerous of a stunt you are doing!" Souichi can't help but be worried. Just looking at Kyosei doing that stuff was enough to tense his nerves as well.

Kyosei only nodded and once he retrieved the harness from Nejima, Kyosei once again used his crowbar and descended to the rope again in a risky manner. One would feel very nervous just by looking at Kyosei doing it.

"Damn, truly a daredevil. Perhaps those pointy parts of his headphones were not actually part of the headphones but his actual horns..." Souichi mumbled to himself.

Like before, Kyosei returned to the gymnasium to fetch the next people he needed to bring to the clock tower. There is only a bit of time left and it is not going to be a good idea for them to keep on staying there for the night.

The room is empty at first but someone entered this time around and this time, it is a young woman who looks like a techie. She is currently wearing a bag that holds a laptop with her. She also has big glasses and just by the face alone, she can be mistaken as Souichi but a female version. Her collar also has the Roman numeral I emblazoned on her blouse's collar.

"It is indeed Kyosei. Prez told me who would be rescuing us from this hellhole and thought it would be someone else entirely. And here you are, but who would have thought it would be the infamous Kyosei himself and not just another person?"

Kyosei frowned seeing this girl act casual.

"I am Nanami. Now, let's hurry. Prez is still calling the others."

Kyosei didn't bother to say anything and just continued to work on securing the rope.

"Hey, why are you not saying anything?" Nanami asked.

"Save the chatter for later. Now wear the harness properly. I won't be responsible for your injuries if you fall after not securing the harness. We are just using improvised items after all."

Hearing this, Nanami quickly wore the harness without a word and secured it properly. She is afraid of falling especially since they will be going high up into the building. And considering it was Kyosei who will be helping out, she didn't want to piss him off.

Once the harness was secured, Kyosei positioned himself to the rope and let Nanami cling embrace his body to ensure that she would not fall.

"Hold tight."

Nanami held her grip tighter in fear of falling and with that, Kyosei activated the rope ascender and allowed themselves to be taken to the building. Since Nanami is a bit lighter, the trip is a lot faster and they reached the building much faster than expected.

"Nanami!"

"Brother!"

The two siblings hugged each other as soon as the harness from her body was taken off. It's getting darker and the surroundings are no longer bright enough for everyone to take advantage. Considering that the guards who routinely turn on the lights in the surroundings are already killed or have already escaped, no one will be able to turn the switches on.

Kyosei returned to the gymnasium and this time around, a few more people were present as well. There are two teachers this time around who are planning to leave the gymnasium, a pregnant female teacher, Mrs. Haruna, the English teacher, and the foreign teacher who was from the Philippines and is now living in Japan and is famous for being a brawn teacher and the disciplinarian of the school for any troublemakers. Naturally, Kyosei has already met him multiple times because of his actions and the teacher already is aware of how troublesome Kyosei is to handle.

"Never in my life I would think that I would see the number 1 troublemaker of the school to be the one sensible person who has more sense than the students I thought would be more intelligent," Mr. Leo said as he saw Kyosei appear before them.

"Wait, so Kyosei will be the one helping us get out of here?" Mrs. Haruna who is aware of Kyosei's behavior felt alarmed about their safety.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Haruna. He might be a troublemaker but he is not a bad person. You can vouch for me on that," Miyuki said with confidence.

"I agree with the lass here, Mrs. Haruna. He might be a troublesome kid to handle but I never think he is that bad, he just breaks some rules here and there like skipping classes and beating a few students but witnesses say that he is only retaliating and he is not the one doing most of the troubles aside from skipping classes. He should be fine."

Kyosei didn't really care about the rumors or the people's view of him. "I don't really care what you guys think of me. Anyways, we need to hurry. It's getting dark out and things are harder to see now that the sun is already setting and night is about to fall. We need to stop dawdling. Who will go first?"

"The others. Okabe and Cindy should be prioritized first since they will be easier to bring back compared to me who is pregnant. I should go last," Mrs. Haruna suggested.

"Mrs. Haruna! Shouldn't we be prioritizing you since you are pregnant?" Miyuki frowned. She is worried for the safety of Mrs. Haruna.

Mr. Leo chimed in. "Considering that we will need to carry one person at a time this time around to take turns using the rope ascender, I think Mrs. Haruna's suggestion would work. We, adults, can go last as I can carry Mrs. Haruna with me from going to the top instead of Kyosei. Kyosei is small and considering Mrs. Haruna is pregnant, as much as I hate to tell this but she is heavier than all of us."

"Don't worry, Sir Leo. I am indeed heavier than everyone else so I think it is a better plan."

Kyosei nodded. "In that case, ladies first then the guy next."

"Let her go first, Kyosei, I will continue to distract Kaze for a while. He still hadn't noticed our move just yet so make sure to hurry."

Hearing this, Kyosei turned to Cindy and threw the harness on her. "Hear that, exchange student? Wear that properly.

Cindy seemed to have a hard time understanding what he just said and just looked at him confused. Kyosei realized this and started speaking in straight English.

"Wear the harness, Miss. We will be moving from here."

"Ah! Yes!" Cindy was flustered after realizing what he just said.

Mrs. Haruna was surprised at Kyosei's straight English. After all, Kyosei usually skips through her classes and only appears during exam times and on some odd days.

Cindy quickly put the harness on and Kyosei held Cindy tight. "Hold tight, or you will fall."

Mrs. Haruna and Mr. Leo frowned at what Kyosei was doing.

"How is he going to go back here? Isn't the rope ascender only capable of ascending and not the other way around?" Mr.Leo frowned. He is familiar with the rope ascender that Kyosei was using and it cannot descend and if one uses it to ascend, they have to manually descend the rope in another way. Seeing as Kyosei has no other means to descend, he is wondering how he was doing it in the first place.

Miyuki couldn't say it, after all, what Kyosei was doing was very dangerous already. What if both of the adults would scold Kyosei more? And besides, they will see it a bit. There is no point explaining and they have no time.

Activating the rope ascender, Cindy and Kyosei ascended and quickly returned to the building. When Kyosei arrived at the building, the others were already eating. Chie is still busy with what she is doing and is currently being assisted by one of the girls. If he remembered correctly, that girl should be Sena or something like that.

"Thank you!" Cindy sighed in relief now that she was safe in the building.

"Take off the harness, we will be using it for the others."

She nodded and quickly removed the harness before handing it to Kyosei which the latter quickly took and without hesitation jumped back to the rope and descended with the crowbar on the rope as a way to descend.

"Damn, that's reckless Kyosei!" Mr. Leo almost shouted.

"Mr. Leo, lower your voice! We can't afford to have Kaze realize our movements here!" Miyuki scolded Mr. Leo.

"Ah, sorry... But Kyosei is doing something so dangerous! What if the rope snaps while he is descending?"

Kyosei shook his head. "If you don't like me doing this, just tell me, Sir Leo and I will easily leave you guys behind. I don't mind having less mouth to feed right now."

"Urk...sorry, Kyosei...It's just you are too reckless. That can cause an accident if something goes wrong!"

"Nothing can do, Sir. We are running out of time, what was your name again?" Kyosei redirected his attention to the other guy.

"It's Okabe."

"Alright, Okabe, wear this and get ready."

As Kyosei handed the harness to Okabe, a loud dog howl echoed throughout the surroundings. It was so loud that even Kaze who was so busy sharing his so-called "gospel" of some sort stopped talking as everyone could hear the ominous howl.

Kyosei had a bad feeling about it. Looking at the clock tower's time, it is already 6 pm.

"I don't like this..." Kyosei shook his head.

However, their precious daylight time is up.
