Antique bitch?
Liu Xiaodan was doubtful of what the female ghost was saying. However, the male ghost started whispering as well. It seemed that Qin Rong misunderstood what happened that day at their wedding.
Though the two admitted to staging an affair to help Qin Rong escape the woman's family matriarch who didn't like him enough to get him killed, they didn't think Qin Rong would butcher them both.
It was a rather sad turn of events, but no matter, Qin Rong was bound to be torn into pieces. It made Liu Xiaodan's head hurt before he eyed at the shadow which was growing bigger and bigger as if feeding on Qin Rong's despair.
"Junhai, should I believe them?" Liu Xiaodan didn't want to decide on his own. He was also an emotional being so he couldn't decide which side to take. Perhaps someone like Yi Junhai could help him.
There was no voice, but Liu Xiaodan felt like he just knew something. Perhaps it was Yi Junhai talking to him. Ghosts normally wouldn't mask their intentions unless they're deceitful.
These two were only weeping ghosts who wanted to tell their lover and best friend that he shouldn't be haunted by what he did to them... or by their staged affair. They're incapable of deceiving Liu Xiaodan.
Moreover, once Qin Rong accepted their messages to heart, they might even find the light.
Liu Xiaodan only nodded. "Qin Rong, raise your head." He watched Qin Rong do what he was told. "Would you like to listen to them one more time? They wanted to let you know something about what happened on your wedding day.
"They... were staging an affair so you would call off the wedding. Else, you would be killed by your bride's family matriarch. Do you believe them?"
"What? How did you know about what happened on my wedding day?" Qin Rong was stunned. He never told anyone about a wedding massacre. Everyone in the prison only knew that he killed two people and broke their bones to fit into a small space before throwing them into the coursing river.
How come Liu Xiaodan knew about the wedding?
"Hehe, your fiancée and your best friend wanted to send a message across. They wanted to protect you, too; but considering the nightmares you're getting, they wished to pacify your heart instead." Liu Xiaodan smiled at the confused man. "Do you believe them?"
"What?" Qin Rong was still shocked. Staging an affair? His eyes then slid to the side and saw a sliver of a woman in white's visage.
She was smiling back at him despite her broken eyes and grayed skin. Tears began to prick his eyes as he realized he started crying. Staging an affair to keep him safe from that old bitch?
They really did that? When he first heard from his fiancée that her grandmother wanted him dead, he just brushed it off. Now that they were bound to be married, the old bitch really planned to do something so real that his fiancée decided to stage an affair to save him? Then...
"Oh, my God, what have I done?" Qin Rong cradled his head with his arms. All this time, he believed that he was fooled by the two and they deserved to die by his hands. If that was true, then... he killed the people who loved him so badly...
"It's not your fault, Rong'er..." The woman's voice echoed much clearer and less ghastly as she went to hug her fiancé. The male ghost also reached out to console the crying man.
"I'm so... I'm so sorry..." Qin Rong didn't care if Liu Xiaodan was in front of him. He decided to cry as much as he had to clear his heavy heart. The two ghosts began to regain their opaque and before-death images as they held and comforted Qin Rong.
Liu Xiaodan only watched by, lifting his legs and crossing them while still sitting on his bed to give Qin Rong more space to bawl. Behind him, the big black bear leaned against his back as if consoling him as well. The black shadow remained on one side, reducing its size to its original.
Indistinct chattering came from the two ghosts and Qin Rong. After a while, the heavy atmosphere began to clear. The two ghosts faded away in white light as they seemed to say goodbye to Qin Rong.
The next moment, he lifted his face... Qin Rong seemed to be younger. His frowning brows weren't that deep, and his rather ugly and hardened face seemed to have mellowed. He dried his face and cleared his throat.
The father then asked, "How are you feeling?"
"Lighter." Qin Rong took a deep breath before prostrating again. "Thank you so much, Boss Liu. I'm going to serve you as long as you're here."
"Uhm, no. You don't have to do this. Consider yourself free. However, if someone wanted to bully you, just come to me." Liu Xiaodan only chuckled. Well, now that everyone didn't have a boss to look up to, every person was bound to vie for power.
If that happened, then some would inevitably find trouble with Liu Xiaodan and with the remaining higher-ups of Black Boss. Just nice, he had three ghosts to feed.
Qin Rong's ears perked. The reason why he's still so adamant in calling him Boss was because he needed a new backer. This Liu Xiaodan might be only there for a while, but he was a benevolent boss. To think that he's going to be free? Ah, no, no...
"Big Brother Liu, thank you so much!" Qin Rong, who was past thirty, was calling a twenty-one-year-old Big Brother. How uncool.
"Just call me Xiaodan like everybody else." Liu Xiaodan didn't like being called Big Brother by someone so old. He only waved a hand to dismiss the other guy; however, he twitched. A smile curled his lips as he watched Qin Rong get up from the floor and stretched his aching back. "Qin Rong..."
"Yes?" The man heard a tinge of amusement from the other so he hurriedly responded. However, he wished he didn't readily stare at Liu Xiaodan whose face seemed to be smiling so coldly. "What... can I do for you?"
"You're in charge of the welcoming party, right?"
"Back when Boss—the Black Boss was around. Why?"
"I wanted you to keep an eye on newcomers. Tell me if you found the people sent in for hurting Young Master Feng of the Li family."
Liu Xiaodan smiled at him, but he had no idea that he looked like the tarot card of death smiling down at whoever was looking at it. He didn't even bother when Qin Rong shuddered.
"Go on now. I need to sleep. See me again when you have news or difficulties."
...
The red sun shone down the window horizontally through the gaps of the skyline. Li Yunru was sleeping next to Li Feng even if she shouldn't be there.
Surprisingly, three horsemen were also there albeit dozing while waiting. Chuan Nayi just kicked them out of her room earlier so they thought they should see Li Feng once he had woken up.
The slight churn in his stomach woke Li Feng up. He groaned very faintly that no one even caught it. Li Feng began to open his eyes before seeing the white ceiling above. Around his nose was a respirator, and on his side beeped a heart machine. He then blinked. He's in a hospital... he's alive.
He turned to the side and saw Li Yunru sleeping with her lips parted. A smile curled his lips, but he remained to be unable to move. His muscles were still aching, and his legs were still healing.
However, his stomach was churning. He then looked to the other side and was shocked to see a young woman standing next to his bed. She was wearing a pink hoodie dress, so short he could see most of her thighs. Then again, that was because even before his gaze could get to the knees, the skin had run out. The woman was an apparition.
"Good morning, Li Feng. How are you?" Ye Ling smiled. She knew this man as she stayed in the boys' dorm before. "Welcome to your second life..."
"You..." Li Feng frowned at the woman. He then looked further down and saw the horsemen sleeping on the couch. The male looked back at the ghost. "Why are they here?"
"Hm? We saved you, remember? Of course, we want to see how you're doing." Ye Ling chuckled before narrowing her eyes in a malicious smile. "How does it feel to have Liu Xiaodan's blood in your body? Aren't you scared that you'll never get rid of the miasma Guangru had on you?"
Li Feng's eyes quivered. Liu Xiaodan's blood? Would he be perpetually plagued by Guangru's miasma? Would he still be able to exorcise ghosts and purify the living? He then sighed. "Am I done for?"
The woman shrugged her shoulders. "We can tour around the hospital and see if someone is willing to engage with us. Don't worry, if you can't exorcise the ghost, we can eat it!" Her eyes then twinkled. "Besides, you need to heal. Your legs aren't fixed yet."
"Eat? Heal?! What do you—?!" Li Feng shouted and ended up choking on his own saliva. The violent movement woke up the other people in the room, and Ye Ling's laughter echoed as she pranced back to Ruan Jin's side. Li Yunru was the first one who checked up on him as she rubbed his drenched back.
"Feng'er! Oh, my God! What happened? Are you okay? Your back's wet! Let's call the nurses to get you changed." Li Yunru sat up and pulled Li Feng slowly to sit up. He had been lying down for so long that his sweat had drenched his back.
"What happened? That lady said Liu Xiaodan's blood is in me?" Li Feng complained readily. Not that he didn't want it, but it was so complicated he didn't know what it meant. How come his parents transfused Liu Xiaodan's blood into him? Were they a match?
"Listen for now, Feng'er. Uncle did what he needed, okay?" Li Yunru didn't want to tell him this first thing. She didn't even know who that lady he was talking about was. "Your situation is too sensitive; Uncle and Auntie needed someone who had the same blood type as you that also had spiritual powers.
"Liu Xiaodan never stopped being a medium so he was the best one for the job. Don't worry, Grandpa Yu will check on you later."
Li Feng only nodded before holding onto his forehead. He then lifted his face and saw the awkward looks on the horsemen's faces. Sure, they didn't know how to approach him. He only cast a gaze at Ruan Jin and Ye Ling. "You... can you tell your ghost girlfriend to elaborate on what she told me?"
"Ghost girlfriend..." Ruan Jin murmured. Ye Ling then chuckled. "I told you it's contagious. I don't even need to materialize just for him to see me."
