Corpse Runner: Guilds of the Scourgelands
Virtual reality gaming has made large strides towards becoming a fully immersive experience, yet no matter how advanced technology gets, someone will always find a way to break everything... most of the time, though, it's broken from the very start.
In the near future of 2037, the world's first fully-fledged VR MMORPG, simply called "Realm", has been online for seven years, and a new generation of players have joined the hype for the new expansion that recently released. One of these new players, known in-game as Locke, is stuck on a quest that takes him through one of the most infamous locations in the game: the Scourgelands, a PvP zone from one of the oldest expansions that hasn't been updated in years, home to exploiters and hackers alike; and he quickly becomes their favorite punching bag.
Left with no other choice, Locke finds himself resorting to "corpse running", dying over and over again only to respawn and keep going where he left off. Yet in doing so, he inadvertently discovers something that could give him the edge he needs to put his assailants in their place, and potentially reign over this lawless zone as an unparalleled warlord.
