As the saying goes: Better the Devil you know. Shay: How do you define the word, Devil? How do you ask someone why they are the way that they are? I didn’t realize when it all really meant. I was about to come face to face with a Devil for the first time. Only he wasn’t really the first. Noah: I had to close my eyes so that I could concentrate on blocking out the pain My jaw ached, and it felt like needles were pricking my arms and legs. “Noah,” she said in a whisper. My body shook. Just being close to her was painful. It was difficult to explain how, but the pain from her close proximity was mixed with pleasure. “Shay,” I said back to her, just as quiet. She let out a small sound. My eyes opened quickly to see her covering her mouth to stifle a laugh. “What’s so funny?” I asked, feeling the pain in my extremities start to fade. Her hand dropped quickly to reveal a dazzling smile. “It’s nothing,” she said, meeting my gaze, “You were just making a cute face.” I felt myself frown, “Cute?” She nodded at me with her face dead serious. I had to glance away from her. I didn’t mind that she called me cute, but I felt a strange sensation in my stomach. She let out a laugh, and the feeling only got worse. Shay: He sat across from me with his eyes closed. It looks like he is pain. His lower lip quivered. “Noah,” I said, wanting to run my thumb over his shaking lip. His brows furrowed, and more than anything, I wanted to reach over this small table between us and embrace him. “Shay,” he whispered. Damn, this boy made me nervous. The only thing my brain would let me do was have a very inappropriate response. My hand came up quickly with the hope of being able to cover my mouth, to muffle my laugh. His eyes opened quickly to meet mine. He looked startled by the sound. “What’s so funny?” he asked with a small smile on his face. I dropped my hand to grin at him. “It’s nothing,” I said, keeping eye contact, “You were just making a cute face.” He frowned a little, “Cute?” I nodded seriously. He looked away, and I swear I could see the color increase in his cheeks. I nervously let out another laugh. This is not what I was expecting. He is beautiful, and from his reaction, genuine.
"Do you practice how to be a dick or does that just come naturally to you?" He looked into my pale blue eyes and bluntly answered: "Every morning in front of the mirror. You know what they say, practice makes perfect." I rolled my eyes and he returned to his papers. I pushed his legs away from me and he almost fell off the chair. It put a little smile on my face. I live for simple things. ____________________________________________ Aron (not Aaron) Spencer is a criminal psychologist who works at a law firm where he is partnered up with a criminologist Lukas O'Neal. I BUMPED INTO A HOT GUY ON MY FIRST FRICKEN DAY. "Going somewhere, sweetheart?" I look at the guy sitting next to me and look at his face. But instead, I am met with a pair of pretty green orbs. I think the guy caught me staring because he suddenly starts to lean over. "Something wrong, princess?" He whispers while smirking and I blush. Why can't he smile properly?!? "No, I was just thinking of something.." I reply while covering my face and facing the front. “OK to start, you like the house, correct?” Leo asked. “I love it.” I replied as I looked in his eyes. “You love surfing right?” he asked. “Yes.” I replied. “Well you already seen the private beach. So you can go surfing there anytime you wish.” he replied to that. “Did you accept the job offer last night?” “Yes I did.” I replied as I heard my mother cheering that I got a job with Leo to William. “Well I work at home a lot and since you will be working under me, what is better than staying here with me. I’ll count all the hours you spend in my office as your surprivised hours along with the ones you spend at the office building.” Leo said which made me smile at the idea of getting my hours done faster. “That sounds really good.” I replied. “Last but not least,” he said with a giant smile on his face as he looked at my outfit then back at my eyes, “Do you know that you are wearing a pair of my sweats?”
I am alone. I will always be alone. No matter what. I look at the mirror and see the scars on my arms as I touch each of them and the same pain I felt when I cut my skin. I always will punish myself. That's what I deserve to make people happy. I'll never be the girl Colton wants, only the opposite.
