And the ritual itself, the crystal glowing sapphire and the room gasping in disbelief at a second Starblessed Princess existing at the same time as Coralynn, set up such a compelling political and magical conflict right from birth. Jumping twenty years later to Maren and Coralynn's icy dynamic, the Ruby Princess sneering at her while Maren finally starts pushing back after a lifetime of shrinking herself, made for such a satisfying shift in their relationship. I do manga-style commission art, and stories with this much rich worldbuilding and rival princesses on the edge of something more are exactly what I love drawing. I'd love to create art of baby Maren on the stone altar as the crystal above her bursts into sapphire light, or that charged moment of Maren and Coralynn standing side by side before the grand doors, tension crackling between them.
