I envied redwood stretched toward heaven By: Amoureax Amant I envied redwood stretched toward heaven, whose branch in branch like hand in cloud ocean, whose leaves like thread weaved curtain covered sky, whose spot like stage light lit for butterfly. I envied stray bird hummed with bugs echo, whose siren song spread through redwood shadow, whose feather swirled like lone-drifting snowflake, whose wings like flash slipped through green amber lake. I envied cowboy rode through siren sight, whose horse ran on green sea plain at twilight, whose gun aimed at wild deer in green forest, whose bonfire cooked deer meat in light gauze mist. I envied fish blew bubble in amber, whose bubble bloomed as gorgeous as flower.

A soft black base with the title embellished in gold serves as a picture frame of sorts for a young woman resting peacefully. The book is divided into three parts: "Duet," "Interlude" and "Finale." An illustration accompanies the beginning of each new chapter. "Duet" features the titular poem “Lullabies” which describqes how you can miss the details of a love’s life and still know them romantically. Leav’s writing style has moments that mimic classic poetry style a la Emily Dickinson, but most of the time she holds a more modern tone. At some points she rhymes frustration over lost love, like in her poem “A Letter.” In other poems Leav transitions into the role of a storyteller, breaking away from traditional rules to weave tales of lovers.
