Actually really enjoying this , it makes you think from a different perspective about the definition of pets and rights and judging others . The emotional attachment is interesting and I would love to see how this story develops . Even though they both can have the same physical form they still think of humans as pets which makes me think of human history and slavery and how people separated their emotions to not acknowledge slaves as people and how ignorant humanity was . Karmatic in a way that humans ( all types of humans) then had to experience slavery first hand by aliens where their rights were taken and they were property. The fact that they restricted meat because humans would get stronger and over power them just shows that they fear humans and feel inadequate or threatened by humans so they forcively suppress the population to keep the threat low. When humans are closer to equals than they realise. The fact they can carry their offspring says that they are more compatible than aliens realise and they are ignorant as not only can they look similar but they can learn alien language and communicate in a way where they can even give consent it shows humans aren’t the simple creatures the aliens think they are. Not surprised hottes male human betrayed him I bet he fed it meat and that’s why he refuses to give any to Cheng Xi . If he gave her meat she wouldn’t be so fragile but aliens prefer their humans fragile. Fragile is no threat. Please keep writing this book .
