The story is good; the narrative is divided into "arcs"—such as the Stepstones, Westeros, Meereen, Yunkai, and back to Westeros—with a relatively fast pace (including some time skips). My problem with this story is primarily its portrayed objective—saving the dragons, saving House Targaryen—alongside the actions taken to achieve it. For example, aside from a few advantages (the death of Criston Cole, becoming a consort who doesn't strike as much fear in Alicent as Daemon does), the narrative is fundamentally the same as the original. Criston's role is taken over by another supporter of Otto; the night at Driftmark plays out the same way, with Aemond claiming Vhagar and losing his eye. The only major difference is that Rhaenyra remains in King's Landing, serving as regent for her father after illness consumes him, which prevents the Greens from capitalizing on Viserys's death. The main character's contradiction wounds me in a way I cannot express. He has a goal that drove him to throw himself into the entire mess of Westeros—marrying Rhaenyra, buying Unsullied, and bleeding for the realm—even though he had no prior connection to it he does not take actions that could win over allies in advance. He knew Borros's father was going to die, yet he did not reach out to him when he had the chance early. He wants to avoid cruelty, but he does not even consider using Helaena and Aegon's children as hostages—a choice that leads to the conflict and Baela's death. I understand him not being cruel before Viserys's death so as not to pressure Alicent into taking her father's side, but once Aegon and Aemond fled, the war had already begun. I’m not saying he should kill Aegon and Helaena’s children, but rather use them as hostages. If Aegon refuses to surrender, he could spread the narrative that Aegon is so greedy for the throne that he doesn't even care about his wife and his own flesh and blood. Furthermore, when Aegon starts pulling his usual stunts with wine and handmaidens, the story doesn't use that to portray him as a total piece of trash in the eyes of the realm. It’s noble of him not to drag a child into it (by our standards, though in *Game of Thrones* a 14-year-old is practically an adult), but that directly contradicts his goal. His goal is clear: to save the dragons and the Targaryens, which—narratively speaking—means allying with the Blacks. Since he’s picked a side, he should go all the way rather than staying somewhere in the middle. He doesn't need to turn into a monster who would kill Otto, Alicent, and the child Aegon (early on)—which would have solved everything—but at the same time, he needs to be more decisive. If he had discredited Aegon the way Otto does with Larys, or threatened Helaena and Aegon’s children before the conflict even began, it would have shown his determination. But instead, Baela dies and he does nothing. Vaemond spouts nonsense at the Velaryon hearing and walks away unscathed, only to later kill Corlys. Rhaenyra literally created an enemy who could be dangerous down the line, yet she didn't even have him spied on. (Sorry for my bad english, but it's a solid history besides all my points - 4/5)
